Just curious. Most times I’m gung-ho about porn. I love collecting it and watching it. I normally have a membership or two on the go and already have plans for the next sites. I even keep a list of sites I plan to join. But the past week has seen something different in me: I’ve just lost interest. I’m sure it’s temporary, but has this ever happened to you?

This does happen to me from time to time, like any interest or hobby, my motivation for it fluctuates. It can depend on all sorts of things, such as what else is going on in my life: work stress, friends and family etc etc. Sometimes, if I've been watching tons and tons of porn I can get a "porn overload" so my interest wains.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you haven't got the motivation yet, just give it a bit of a rest and you'll soon get your mojo back!

I sometime wonder if I'm hitting a dry spell or if what's available that's not worth bothering with. There are a couple of studios and sites whose content I always look forward to and often really enjoy but their recent stuff isn't very good and upcoming isn't much better. Long live the Brown Coats.

I am having dry spells quite frequently these days. I get so tired of looking forward to updates that turn out to be run-of-the-mill, unimaginative and boring that, only recently, I actually deleted the bookmarks and passwords of some sites I was still a member of. What's the sense in going back day after day to look at updates that are all the same, with only the models changing.

I keep blaming the fact that I have seen so much over a life time that I am jaded, or that I am just getting too old, but those theories don't hold water because, when I go back to the older material in my stash I still find it stimulating and exciting.

I agree with Pat in connection with most sites:

"... their recent stuff isn't very good and upcoming isn't much better."

Porn has become a formula that only appeals to a certain (albeit large) segment of the YOUNG male population, while many of us feel left out.

Hate those dry spells!! I mean what else can you do but look at porn if you're 75 and practically house bound!

The reasons for dry spells can be simple or complicated. As you get older, your tastes can change, and what you found truly exciting years ago can now seem stale or dull. And oftentimes it's difficult to find content that is truly good or appealing. When you have to wade through a lot of boring or lousy videos or photos, it takes away from being able to enjoy any good stuff that you might finally come across. And there are a whole bunch of other reasons why porn might seem boring or meaningless from time to time.

All of the above rings true. Sometimes a dry spell is probably just that - life gets in the way of porn. And you guys are definitely on to something that is part of it: a lot of porn is pretty boring and repetitive. If I could find a new thing I might be fine, but since my new things tend to be weird, maybe I'll just ride this out.

A good movie or TV series can often be highly enjoyable. There are a huge number of movies out there that you might or might not have seen, that would be worth watching or re-watching. And with services like Netflix, Amazon, etc., the cost of watching a movie can be a dollar or less. I know there were a lot of fine movies (and TV series) mentioned on the PU threads. Porn is great, but it's not all of life. Lol.

There are also a huge number of books (fiction and non-fiction) that can be highly interesting or enjoyable to read. Get them from the library and the cost is minimal.

I've been on a bit of dry spell recently. I've signed up for a monthly membership about 3 weeks ago and have hardly been to it. I haven't even posted a review yet which is unusual for me since I usually knock reviews out within a few days of joining. For me it's a combination of trying to focus on other aspects of life, porn burn out (been there, seen that) and the fact that my current collection is enough to keep me going. It's probably going to be a while before I get back into the groove.

Here is a weird thing, lk2fireone, but maybe others have the same problem: there is no way we (my wife and I) could watch a movie or read a book during the day. For those activities we need the quiet, late night hours.

So, while my wife is okay during the day puttering around the house, I am reduced to either reading (or watching) all the news there is or dropping in on the Porn Users' forum with alarming frequency. Just ask Khan how many times I sign in during the space of a day!

I am willing to bet that the TBP crew never anticipated becoming a life line to seniors when they started this site! Maybe they should apply for a tax exemption as a charity!

It certainly is not living the full life, but going for lengthy walks is out, visits to malls etc. are infrequent because of the pain factor if I spend longer than half an hour in the mall.

So, to me, a porn addiction .. or I should say an addiction to COLLECTING porn is not an evil thing but warmly welcomed for brightening up my day. Now if only I could find a bit more to collect, and with this we return to the subject at hand!

I have to say I am mostly in agreement with you.
Some folks tastes tend to get more extreme as they age.
Mine have always remained the same.

Sadly, there is still precious few sites that cater to my tastes, so often I have to broaden the cast somewhat.

To answer the OP. Yes, I sometimes do go through a dry spell, but is usually forced upon me, rather than by choice.

Nothing dries me out like joining yet another site and being disappointed. I join fewer than I used to because of that.

But I don't think that dry spells are a bad thing at all. It's better to accept them as something that is normal. Sometimes it's just time for a break; then when you really feel like getting back into it, you'll enjoy it more. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I completely agree with you but a big fear of mine is that the current trend is for more and more disapointments in upcoming porn. I just look at sites who's content I was always eager to see and now I visit and will skip some of them because they aren`t worth my using up my alloted download quota. Sites like 21sextury and teen mega world are 2 examples of sites that I always visited but either they have no new updates or what they offer is mediocre. Long live the Brown Coats.

I don't think the quality of the contents at 21sextury or teen mega world has gone down. Instead, I think what I posted 2 days ago applies: "As you get older, your tastes can change, and what you found truly exciting years ago can now seem stale or dull."

Basically, you are saying that you want new and fresh content that excites you, or gives you pleasure. I have the same type of problem when I watch a movie: A lot of movies, if I re-watch them on DVD, that I enjoyed the first time I saw them, are now boring or barely watchable to me. The difference is me, the movies themselves have not changed. And the same with reading novels: I start to re-read many novels that I really enjoyed before, and there is often little or no pleasure in re-reading them. This is more than just the fact that I saw or read the movie or novel before: there is also the factor that what once would have given me pleasure or enjoyment reading or watching, can now be a boring or have much less of a positive impact. People do change as they get older. Not all people change in the same way, but it's normal to change.

But you also have that additional factor of limited download quota. "I just look at sites who's content I was always eager to see and now I visit and will skip some of them because they aren`t worth my using up my alloted download quota." That quota is forcing you to be more discriminatory about what you download. And it's impacting the pleasure of what you view.

The mind can be quite complex. You are getting less pleasure from your porn because the download quota is a negative factor.

On the other hand, you are writing a large number of new site reviews. So you must be getting some pleasure from your porn. Right? Your score is now 164, it was only a short while ago you hit 100. Maybe you are slurping them down too fast to get the full savor of each site, like a fine wine connoisseur, you are treating the sites more like a McDonald's burger. If I eat too many burgers, I get tired of them, and want a cheese sandwich, a pastrami sandwich, I wish I could afford a steak sandwich, but I'm usually too cheap, and the best I get is a club or turkey sandwich, which you don't get at McDonald's, but at a more expensive restaurant.

But there are more restaurants out there, and more dishes, than there are fine porn sites. At PU, I think we've covered/explored most of the larger sites that are worthwhile. Not all, and there are new sites that start up, but the major thrill is gone, we've already discovered porn, seen porn. How can you top that? By waiting until the virtual porn experience is here?

Ramble, ramble, ramble. Too much rambling, not enough substance? Edited on Jul 03, 2011, 12:40pm

What I said I think is generally true (wait out the dry spell; get more enjoyment), but it's not always, and what you said about 21st Sextury I think is true for me as well. I used to just CRAVE the material on PixAndVideo and ClubSandy back when those were the only two sites. And they cost $45.00 per month in the combination package, too! And the pics were "only" 1280's and the site design wasn't nearly as sophisticated as it is now.

Whatever it was that was driving the "soul" of 21st Sextury back then I feel has been lost. Now there's just too much gonzo in there, too much phreakin' out, and less of that fine sense of style that they used to have. Two exceptions yet are Club Sandy and Sweet Sophie Moone. Both of those girls are still dynamite, if you ask me, but you don't see them as often as you used to thanks to the crowding in of all that icky stuff like Gapeland.

I'd joined 21st Sextury a couple of months ago and thought I'd stick with it, but as the 30-day mark approached, I just couldn't. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I agree about joining sites and being disappointed. Hopefully, now I've taken to reading reviews, this may dwindle, but I really feel conned when a site doesn't offer what it promises, and it's usually the ones that have a very meagre preview.

I don't know why i didn't read reveiws earlier to tell the truth. I rarely buy a novel, see a film or go to theatre without reading a review, and often these are more inexpensive...

I find the best thing about the reviews here and at TBP are the objective problems that the site has. The particular niche interest will always be pretty subjective so I don't rely on a reviewer's personal subjective opinion as much - the exception being that there are other PU members who share some of my tastes so I always listen when they give subjective information. The value in the reviews is reducing or eliminating unpleasant surprises. If the quality of the video is pooor, or if the site is small and not updating, or if there were billing problems are the things I like to know about before I join. This site, and TBP have saved me countless dollars and much frustration over the years I've been coming here.
