Mass reviews

For the first time - as I remember it since I first joined PU back in early spring 2007 - we now have want I'd consider a mass review.

Of: https://www.thebestporn.com/review/cosplaydeviants/

All 5 reviews are placed on the same day and within a few hours - and all by new PUs........and all top scores (from 88 to 97).

I think something funny is going on here - and hope Khan will take a look at things - the integrity is important for all here.

I'm with ace of aces in a no trust for this reason, mostly:

"5 reviews in a row for the same site seems to be manipulation".

Atrapat says in a comment reply:

".......if the Cosplay Deviants owners have in fact asked their members to post reviews here, it would be fair if reviewers said so and also whether they've been promised something."

Agree

Other PU says it may be honest - I seriously doubt it - but If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to apologize for my suspicion... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Yes they do stick out like a sore thumb. It doesn't look like the same person doing all the reviews, but it does look fishy that there are five positive newbie reviews for an obscure site all at the same time.

I have a feeling Khan has been looking at this one very closely. It does look to me as though the site has told people to come here and give positive reviews. Whether it goes further than that we don't know, but imo it makes the reviewed site look suspicious rather than a reputable good one.

Hmm, whilst it does look fishy, I often link to any new reviews I get on any website and that will make many of my regulars go to take a look. If they disagree with the review quite a few of them get quite vocal and post comments, ratings or user reviews accordingly - often all appearing with a few hours. That's not my intention and as a webmaster I don't have control over that. I never give incentives.

I would be worried that it would also look dodgy? Is encouraging (without incentives) members to write reviews actually dodgy? The other problem is the reviews could all be written by staff members of the site?

I don't know where you could draw the line there? I suspect it will have to be up the readers to decide? I don't see how you can actually effectively police against that sort of thing without catching the innocent too? Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

From the different reviews:

"large number of photosets"
"large number of galleries"
"large gallery"

Large amount of BS ... I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I have already posted something in the comments so feel free to read it but the one thing that is obvious to me is that the site is more a community board where any model can send her pictures to be uploaded and gets paid if they are accepted by the board. Maybe the site also produces it's own content but I didn't really want to read all the stuff on their FAQ page. Long live the Brown Coats.

I think it's fair enough and they should be given the benefit of the doubt. What's the harm of some users reviewing the site, once it's been listed, only recently? If they are genuine reviews from users, it's hardly fair to punish the site for having a loyal user base.

On the chance they are not genuine, that's why the minimum points rule applies here - the scores do not contribute to the average anyway and will disappear off the radar soon enough. OTOH, if any of the reviewers continue to contribute to PU, then their score will be counted accordingly.

Having said that, I concur with Messmer's comment about not having any downloads - that's far more of an issue.

I would tend to agree with otoh about giving the new users the benefit of the doubt and personally i would not be in a rush to dish out "no trust" votes to new PUs on the basis of one review. I've not been a member of the site so i'm in no position to judge if their reviews can be trusted or not and a couple of the reviews did have a decent list of pros and cons even if the scores did seem a little high but everybody is entitled to their own opinions. Only time will tell if those new users go on to contribute more reviews of other sites or if they only came here to promote cosplaydeviants.

Btw fair play to the webmaster for coming on here and responding to the criticisms of us old suspicios PUs.

After having a bit of a back-and-forth with the webmaster of that site I'm inclined to think that they're the real deal. If they were fakes to drum up buiness there would be even less detail and more rhetoric. The fact that the reviews do point out some negatives (streaming only being the big one) led me to believe that these are genuine.

I looked at the site and they have a forum. As this is a pretty narrow niche it seems plausible to me that a member stumbled on PU, wrote a review and then went on the forum to encourage others to do the same.

A lot of new reviewers (and some regulars) are light on detail. Maybe someone will provide a more in-depth review.

For now, until and unless I'm proven wrong, I say a hearty welcome to the new folks.

The reviews all jumped out at me because the scores were so high and I couldn't see anywhere in the review a reason for such high scores. I visited the site but the preview pages are so bad that they are almost worthless. The site appears to be a somekind of costume play community board where you pay to get access to the models and where you can interact with them on cam's or find out where they will be appearing. I guess if you are into this kind of fetsih then this might be a nice site to join but I can't imagine that there is a huge interest for it.

I won't be giving the reviewers a no trust rating but that might chnage if I ever see another one of them do a review with a high score and nothing to warrant it. Long live the Brown Coats.

To me, while odd, I think the reviews seem more or less legit. They do bring up several cons to the site that would be useful to PUers, like otoh I would also be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. I seem to recall something like this happening before where all the reviews said were things like "best site ever" or some such crap.

The scores seem quite high given the cons listed by some, but reviews are always subjective to some extent. Perhaps they all just heard about it on a message board or IRC for this style of content. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

That's just it!

Here's an idea (I already know the answer will be no, but this is merely for a little conversation) - how abou trust votes for a particular review rather than the reviewer. That way, if you don't trust the review, and think it's a little over the top one way or another, you can register your disapproval or approval.

I realise the comments after the review are for that purpose, but to see the number of yes or no's at the top summed up, just as you do with trust votes for reviewers would be interesting. You would see at a glance what members think about the validity of the review. That way it doesn't get too personal.

Okay, yes I know everything on TBP/PU is covered in minute detail, and we don't need any more stats, data, and numbers. Just a thought.

It's also worth noting that newbie reviewers may mark higher until they're more experienced. i know there are guidance notes, but it does take practice. As a relative newcomer I look back with shame at some of my early reviews, and I know I scored a little too high to begin with. It's thanks to the comments of you old handers that I think my reviews are more reflective of the content now.
I suppose if they continue to post reviews, we'll know if they're genuine...

The crux is, they are all new users & therefore unknown quantities.
If the reviews had been posted by older hands, I don't doubt that many folk would have thought.
'Oh look. There is a bit of a buzz around that site!'
and that would have been the end of it.

I think manholelover's last sentence holds a lot of truth.

What further participation shall we see from them?

I still remember the reason I ended up here in the first place. I had written the webmaster of Abby Winters to tell him how much I enjoyed his site and he suggested that I might want to express my positive feelings about AW in PU.

I saw nothing wrong in that because I was not being rewarded by AW in any way, so I didn't see myself as a shill for the site ... just expressing my appreciation in a different place. And I am glad they did send me here. I've enjoyed PU and its members tremendously ever since.

So things aren't always clear cut. In my case it was nothing more than an opportunity to gush over a site that I really liked and in this case it is not inconceivable that five people got the same idea at the same time to post a review, if they participated in a forum. I am not saying this was the case, but it is possible.

Ok - here is the ugly truth...haha... just kidding, for I know no truths ... but I wonder if the reviewers could be the models trying to drive traffic to that website? I would think it to be in their interest to do so. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.

At least AlexMercer did 2 other reviews after the cosplay one and the scores seem more appropriate to the reviews. I don't think we'll ever truly know if this was somekind of orchestrated mass review by the people responsible for the site. I'm giving the webmaster the benefit of the doubt and accepting that he had nothing to do with all the reviews. Frankly none of us would be talking about this if the site in question had turned out to be a great find or if the site warranted such high scores.

I gather that many of us are not into cosplay so any site that offers this type of fetish is unlikely to be of great interest to su. Long live the Brown Coats.
