Yeah, just like every election. :) In fact I was watching a TV show the other day and the host mentioned how Oscar nominated films (particularly best picture nominees) get touted out and shouted about like political candidates, especially the negative campaigning that goes on to make a film not win. Like how only recently have I heard serious complaints about "The Hurt Locker"'s inaccuracies even though the movie has been out on DVD for awhile. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Starting to advertise Iron Man 2, which has a May 7 release date. I fully enjoyed Iron Man 1. Iron Man 2 has the same director, and probably a bigger budget because of the success of Iron Man 1. But I don't know if I will enjoy it as much. From the previews, it seems the director might have made a more jittery movie, with less focus on plot and more on slam-bam action that is so action-filled that it's hard to follow the action. I liked the story between Robert Downey and Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man 1. But does she just remain as one of his many female interests in Iron Man 2? At the end of Part 1, they seemed to have moved on to a higher level, a stronger commitment. Now it seems, in Part 2, it's back to flirtation. Does he at least get into bed with her, along with the other cuties that are flocking around him? Comics today are sure different from when I was growing up. A kiss was a big thing back then. But today, Superman has an illegitimate son, and Iron Man is jumping around in bed with cuties for a 1-day jump.

I guess they have to live up to the super and iron in their titles in every way possible. ; ) I wonder, wouldn't Superman impregnate every woman he fucked since he's Superman and no condom should be able to hold him back? I love your way of thinking. We need to get together to write a script for the next Superman movie. Or Spiderman, or whoever is next up to bat. With a strong prono bent, the movie should gross even higher than the blockbusters that were released previously. But my feeling is that Superman did not perform at the Box Office like they were hoping, and that the next Superman movie will be far, far away. Unless we can do a script of Superman versus the Vampire (since Vampires are the cool thing nowadays, in books, in films, on TV).

I just saw the second Iron Man 2 trailer. It looks great but I have some reticence with the need to add so many different Iron Men to the story. If you haven't seen the most recent one then it appears to be Iron Man and War Machine fighting against many Iron Men(not sure if they are robots). I just saw the new trailer for Tron. Now that looks GREAT. Long live the Brown Coats.

Before going to the movies, make sure to wear a protective neck brace and not to argue with any of your fellow patrons. Also, a bullet-proof vest and other protective gear might come in handy. Better to be safe than sorry. March 9, 2010 Movie News & Gossip Man stabbed with meat thermometer at movie in CA LANCASTER, Calif. - Authorities say a man was stabbed in the neck with a meat thermometer after asking a woman to silence her cell phone during a screening of the film "Shutter Island" at a Southern California movie theater. Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the stabbing happened Feb. 27 during a screening of the Martin Scorsese film in Lancaster. He says the two suspects remain at large. Whitmore says the victim had complained about a woman sitting nearby who was talking on her phone during the movie. He says the woman left with two men, but the men returned minutes later and stabbed the victim in the neck. Two other people in the theater came to the victim's aid and also were hurt. The man was hospitalized with serious injuries. The sheriff's office says it knew the weapon used was a meat thermometer because the suspects left it behind. No further details were released.

Megamind coming in November. There is a new super villain coming to the big screen, Megamind, played by Will Ferrell. Projected release date is 5 November 2010. I just saw the trailer, and it looks cute. But try as I could, I could not match the voice of Megamind with the voice of Will Ferrell in my mind. Plot summary: After super-villain Megamind (Will Ferrell) kills his good-guy nemesis, Metro Man (Brad Pitt), he becomes bored since there is no one left to fight. He creates a new foe, Titan (Jonah Hill), who, instead of using his powers for good, sets out to destroy the world, positioning Megamind to save the day for the first time in his life. I don't know how I will feel about Brad Pitt getting killed in a cartoon, but like I say, the preview for this cartoon looks cute. Do they still call these things cartoons? I mean, they can spend over $100 million making the thing, and then it can have box office in the hundreds of millions of dollars, so it's not quite the same as the cartoons from the thirties and forties and fifties. Edit: The Disney cartoons (Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, etc.) were comparable to today's cartoon blockbusters, but not quite the same in terms of box office take. But I imagine the long-term take of the Disney cartoons over time was considerable (home video and DVD sales, etc.). Edited on Mar 22, 2010, 11:35am

It looks like we will be drowning in super-hero movies for at least the next couple of years. And there are already some super-hero spoof movies that are coming out later this year. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Chris Evans accepts "Captain America" mantle (Reuters) Source: Reuters Tue Mar 23, 2010, 12:58 am EDT LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. Sources said that not only has the actor accepted Marvel's offer for the big-screen role, but that the deal-making moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Marvel would not comment on the development, and Creative Artists Agency, which represents the actor, declined comment. Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios' production late last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in 20th Century Fox's "Fantastic Four" movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part? Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

The next Resident Evil picture will be in 3D. The plot is probably not that great, but the lead actress, Milla Jovovich, is lovely to watch.

Yeah, I just saw the preview and I think they jumped the shark after that third movie. It looks like a giant CGI mess with more green screen that actual real sets. For anyone that thought that all the Star Wars prequels were major disapointments then please take a look at this guys review of the first 2 prequels. It's long to watch but so funny a dead-on right that's it worth the time. http://www.youtube.com/user/RedLetterMed...a#p/u/18/FxKtZmQgxrI Long live the Brown Coats.

Stars Wars merchandise currently sells around $2.75 billion per year. With the movies, TV shows, etc., this is a franchise that made George Lucas a billionaire, not even counting the profits he made off the Indiana Jones franchise. So whether you like or dislike the Star Wars movies, you have to figure Lucas is doing something right, or else the franchise wouldn't be selling billions of dollars worth of merchandise. I personally don't understand the attraction of Star Wars, but I also don't understand the attraction of the Twilight series (the vampires and the werewolves). But the public is voting with their money on these attractions. I saw the first Star Wars movie when it first came out, and thought that 2001 was a better movie. I saw the first Twilight movie on DVD, and thought it was boring, that there are much better vampire movies that I've seen. Personal taste, public taste, they can both be unpredictable.

Yeah, it's pretty funny; Star Wars devotees keep complaining about the prequels and 'selling out' and so forth and then they keep going in droves to every release and rerelease. I've even complained about the prequels but I still went to see the third one... There's a pretty simple answer to the fanboys who keep wanting their favorite episode/film/whatever redone the same over and over again: go to the store and buy it because it's already been done. Have a real boner for Episode IV? Well guess what--it's already been made and is available on DVD! Love the old Indiana Jones films and not the fourth one? Also on DVD! You can relive your special favorites over and over again! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I look at the Star Wars prequels in the same way that I look at most of todays porn. The technology has made the videos brighter, sharper, there is more going on in one scene than older stuff but I still prefer the older stuff. Maybe it is the flaws that make it better. If you watch both reviews then you will catch one phrase spoken by Ewan McGregor in which it's really hard to react to a scene where the entire set is one giant blue or green room. I saw all 3 movies and I own all 3 DVD's but then again I'm known for collecting stuff that I may never watch again. It's a weird flaw of mine. Indiana Jones is not the same thing because the first 3 were filmed close together and the fourth is still in the future. A better comparaison would have been if they had filmed prequeles that involved his dad but where his adventures somehow negate stuff that his essantial to the original movies. Another very importanat thing is that they weren't filmed by George Lucas. Long live the Brown Coats.

I just saw How To Train Your Dragon in 3-D. It's the first 3-D movie I've seen since the 1950s. I was curious to see what a 3-D movie was like now. Throughout the entire movie, I was trying to get used to wearing the 3-D glasses, so that distracted from my enjoyment of the film. I tried taking the 3-D glasses off several times, but put them back on each time, because the movie is definitely meant to be viewed in 3-D, and it looks strange when seen without the glasses. But based on this experience, I won't be seeing another 3-D movie for quite a while.

If you're watching a 3D movie without the glasses it is going to look strange, though I would think modern 3D films are an improvement over the ones from the 50s, at least in how they look. I have heard that 3D films have better color when viewed in their 2D versions, but I'm really not sure since I have yet to watch both versions of any 3D film and I have only seen "Avatar" in its entirety in 3D. I remember that I saw at least a few movies in 3-D back in the 1950s, but I don't remember what the experience was like. I also remember that I bought some comics (paperback comics) in 3-D back in the 1950s. I think one of the 3-D comics I bought was about the 3 stooges. But I don't even remember specifically what movies I saw that were in 3-D when I saw them. But I do agree that the 3-D movies being made today are probably much superior to what was made in the 1950s, on a technical basis. It's just that I had eye strain or was bothered/annoyed/distracted from the experience of watching the 3-D movie by the 3-D effect. I had a hard time adjusting to it, so that I was not able to fully enjoy the movie itself. Edit: I took the 3-D glasses home, because they were nice plastic glasses. I just put them on now, to look at my PC monitor, and just wearing the 3-D glasses, I can feel the same eye strain, like the beginning of a headache, that I felt in the movie theater. So it was not the 3-D movie that caused the problem, but the problem was wearing the 3-D glasses, and trying to get used to them. People react differently to the same stimulus, so this must be a slightly unusual effect that I am experiencing. Otherwise, the 3-D movies would not be as popular as they are. Edit #2: Still using the 3-D glasses I got at the movie theater, I am looking at some 3-D photos I downloaded from a site. The 3-D photos do not show any 3-D effect when viewed using the 3-D glasses I got from the movie theater. So I assume that there are different types of 3-D systems, and that you need to use the type of glasses special to that system to get the 3-D effect. Edited on May 09, 2010, 10:25pm

Hollywood has this idea that putting anything out in 3-D is going to save their financial bacon because of the jacked up ticket price for 3-D. Avatar was worth seeing in 3-D but I've also concluded that I'm not paying to see many more movies in 3-D because, for me, the effects don't justify the price. I'll take a decent plot and lines over flashy effects most any day but then again I'm not 16 with mom and dad funding my quest for gnarly films to see. Also, wondering if anyone has seen Iron Man 2 yet. The reviews have been less than spectacular but I enjoyed the first movie.

I'm thinking I might see Iron Man 2 or Robin Hood this coming weekend. I liked Iron Man 1, but from the previews, I doubt I will like Iron Man 2 as much. Part 2 has more villains and explosions, so the story is more disjointed. Because the first one did so well, they're trying to top it with all the special effects, and I really think that after a point, less is more. Box office on Iron Man 2 is very strong, it's taking in maybe 50% more money, but just because a movie is popular doesn't mean I will enjoy it that much.

A friend of mine saw Iron Man 2 and his description was that there is almost no story but the action and effects are great. I agree that Hollywood has gone overboard with the 3D to the point where they altered Clash of the Titans by adding the technology, which to all was a disaster. You can film a movie knowing it's going to be 3D but you can't add it after it's filmed and hoped that people will flock to the movie simply based on that...Oops I just forgot that I was talking about Hollywood. This is stil the town that will film a movie simply to sell a product. I really loved "How to Train your Dragon" and although the 3D is seemless. You didn't need it to make this a very good movie. Long live the Brown Coats.

$20 adult ticket price to see Shrek 4 at an IMAX theater in New York City? The $20 price was posted online this Wednesday, but then the price was dropped to $17 or $19. These are IMAX theaters, in New York City, for a 3-D movie. But $20? Or even $17-$19? I'm waiting to see Shrek 4 on DVD. At Redbox, you can rent DVDs for $1 (not including tax).

I'm going to appologizer ahead of time for my next use of the F word, but How FUCKING Stupid do you have to be to raise ticket prices to 20$ for any movie coming out at this time? Last I checked we aren't out of a recession just yet. Although we can see a light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn't mean we are out of trouble. I believe that there are quite a few families in America and in the rest of the world still having a hard time making ends meet. Add the fact that this is for Shreck 4 and the stupidity gets even bigger. I was reading an article earlier about that fact that charging 20$ is breaking the barrier in movie goers mind about paying more for movies. Long live the Brown Coats.

When it's on TV I'll record it and just skip the commercials (unless it's shown on the BBC, then there won't be any). To be honest I haven't seen any clips yet which inspire me to watch it. It looks corny as hell. I've never seen Dances with Wolves, all I know about that is Kevin Costner is in it and it looked like a Western. Whether they planned it that way or they simply luck in. There is almost no story in Iron Man 2 so no way could it ruin Iron Man 1. It's basically a series of action scenes all played in a specific sequence culminating in a no real surprise ending. One of the main plot point has to do with Tony Stark's health(I won't give anything else away) but if you had walked out of the theater for a minute here and there then you wouldn't know it. Long live the Brown Coats.

I read an article this past weekend where the theater owners or studios said that the 20$ ticket price was a misunderstanding and that the prices would bew more like 16-17$. Frankly 16$ is still too much money for a movie. Why should I have to pay that kind of money so that Avatar can claim to have made a BILLION DOLLARS at the box office. Now with every movie being made in 3D because they can charge more because of the glasses(which you can't keep) and the 3D experience. Are we going to see a decline in moviegoers? I know that I dislike paying 12$ for the regular theather and 14$ for 3D. I'll be even more reticent to go experience new films. Long live the Brown Coats.

I saw Iron Man 2 and give it a middling grade. The first was better but the second wasn't as bad as the critics said it was. It was passable and entertaining though, I didn't feel ripped off. Mickey Rourke's character was pretty well done I thought but there was a bit too much "noise" as opposed to plot. Wondering if anyone has seen MacGruber, the most recent SNL skit to make the leap to the big screen. The probably should have stopped taking those skits to the big screen after Wayne's World but this one looks like it might have at least a small glimmer of hope in that it might be entertaining.

I haven't seen MacGruber. Maybe I will see it on DVD. The critics gave it a poor grade, for what that's worth. Critics opinions don't count very much with me. But the movie has bombed. $4 million for its debut weekend. So it will probably last a couple of weeks at the box office, then reappear on DVD sometime later. Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillipe are in the movie, but that didn't save it from bombing. Kilmer and Phillipe used to be hot, but it's been a while since either was in a hit movie.

Maybe this guy would have better luck trying to rob a gas station? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Wash. police: 'Drugstore Cowboy' author busted (AP) Source: AP 4 hours, 1 minute ago REDMOND, Wash. - Police in Washington state say the man who wrote "Drugstore Cowboy" has been arrested in yet another pharmacy robbery. James Fogle was arrested with another man Tuesday night after they allegedly tied up employees at a pharmacy in Redmond, east of Seattle. The Seattle Times reports Fogle will be arraigned Thursday on a charge of first-degree armed robbery. Fogle has spent much of his adult life in prison, which is where he wrote "Drugstore Cowboy." Filmmaker Gus Van Sant turned the novel into the acclaimed 1989 film starring Matt Dillon. The work was loosely based on Fogle's life robbing pharmacies to feed his addictions. Redmond police spokesman Jim Bove says robbing pharmacies "is probably the only thing he knows." ___ Information from: The Seattle Times, http://www.seattletimes.com More on: Matt Dillon

This begs the question. Why is this guy still out? How many time should he be arrested before someone says no more? I knew the movie's charatcter was based on this guy and frankly Matt Dillion played him very well. All the characters were pathetic in the movie but it's worse when the real guy is even more pathetic. Long live the Brown Coats.

I usually look at Rotten Tomatoes results since this is an hodgepodge of different reviews all mixed together to give you a better sampling . MacGruber only got 47% so this is pretty much the kiss of death for box office money. It migh have had a chnace if it had been released during a quieter time than summer. Then again, you have to wonder about the level of inteligence for a studio exec to give the go ahead for a movie based on a skit that usually lasts a couple of minutes and always ends with the main character exploding. Here is Rotten Tomatoes little summary of MacGruber: "It too often mistakes shock value for real humor, but MacGruber is better than many SNL films -- and better than it probably should be". Long live the Brown Coats.

These SNl sketch films always seem to scrape the bottom of the humor barrel, and I think the idea of taking a five minute sketch--which is frequently too long already--and extending the joke to ninety minutes of film is just dumb. I'm not even sure how you could stretch the MacGruber character to feature length because the whole joke was that he was such an idiot that his diddling and dawdling would get him killed within the few minutes of the sketch, usually with the time running out being the joke's setup. Why they keep making SNL sketches into films is beyond me. The actors in non-sketch film roles can do reasonably well but wearing their character out for an hour and a half is too much. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D. Rippper, Dr. Stranglove

I don't know why they keep making them? I read that Macgruber cost about 10 million dollars to make & another it will have to make at least 50 million to make profit. With a 4.1 million opening weekend and not a very good word of mouth. Maybe this will be the movie that kills every other future possibility of SNL sketch to movie. Long live the Brown Coats.
