I'm back... and motivated.

First, want to say thanks for our loyal and active users. I can't believe after two years we have the same great minds and opinions still active in our little corner of the web.

Who am I, where have I been hiding? I go by just "Rick" around these parts... I developed both TBP and PU starting back in 2003. Some of you remember me when I peaked my head once in a while. I took the past two years completely off to breathe and enjoy the world around me. Frankly, I needed a break after staring at a computer screen everyday for 15 years.

I'm back, and have a newfound drive. First thing I had to do was clean up some things within the company. With free porn and our stale sites, no surprise that income has been slowly on the decline. We've had to really cut down on unnecessary expenses... unfortunately the raffle was one of them. Glad to see most are fairly supportive and understanding. Thank you for that.

The company as a whole (TBP and PU) is still very stable, but sitting back and doing virtually nothing to expand/upgrade has cost us. I'm putting a lot of time and resources in brand new sites that will bring freshness and cutting edge resources for everyone. I've never been this motivated or worked this efficiently... software and html standards really make things easier now.

As you can tell by my usage stats, I'm not much of a forum guy... but I do read a lot of posts and even poll results still. I'm a research freak and a developer at heart. When I'm in my zone, I live breath and sleep concepts and designs.

What to look forward to?

1. Fresh new reviews for sites 80+, new brand separate from TBP.
2. Deeper discounts, deeper trial research and verification... new site that compares prices available from us and others for each pay site.
3. Trust reports for all 80+ sites... logging, capturing, and grading the signup process, cancel process, upsell tactics, spam tracking, and of course fraud.
4. Our own tube... full 10 min hd movies, no ads/pop-ups, our own encoding, in a package that crosslinks to all the reviews, discounts, and trust ratings.
5. MUCH MUCH MORE

This forum and PU will get it's own set of updates down the road as well. I have a lot of ideas to get our top users free passes and benefits that should exceed raffle type rewards. My goal is to widen our community and in the end, take care of those who have stayed loyal to us.

I'm late for a graduation party, so I better run... but thanks to everyone who has always had our back. Khan is always your man, and you won't see me muhc, but know I'm back and dedicated to fuck shit up (for the better of course)!!

p.s. these fonts are way too damn small!!! lol sorry bout that. i'll fix this. The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

Rick, you started PU/TBP in 2003, but you didn't register until 2007?

I was a lurker, who dropped by the sites, without bothering to register for a while.
But you have me beat by a mile.

You still have the same handsome face, as always.

Looking forward to the changes, even though I think PU is pretty good, as it is.

PS: Will you and Khan be performing in any of these tube videos? I think that would be a strong drawing card, for the PU members.

Haven't had the pleasure of seeing much of you, Rick, during my short tenure here at PU; But glad you're back on board.

You're right about Khan... to me he's always been the wind beneath the wings of this site. You couldn't have a better man at the helm.
Count me as one who agrees completely with the ideas you've expressed in this introduction. They're practical, reasonable, and a good business approach to shave some expenses that we can do without.
I like the idea additional importance are being directed to our PU regulars ...... they're the worker bees who keep PU hives a-buzzing.

Sort of wondering where you took off too ... I just figured the thrill of buying a new Ferrari every year was just too much for the fearless leader to return Glad to see you're back at the helm ... although you have to admit that Khan is king of this realm.

Oh, yes: good to hear, that TBP/PU is stable.....some of us can't live without it "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Not entirely dissimilar to what some of us were expecting or wanting. Let us all hope the changes are ones some of the regulars and part timers like. Sometimes the most profitable changes go against what a minority want, and obviously quite a few of us here are in the minority with our tastes.

People need a break, if you continue without one, diminishing returns usually kick in. As a part timer I am hoping to retain some interest in what's going on here, so I am hoping you ally yourself with the more reputable networks and companies. Too many companies have questionable standards. It may work short term but once customers get tricked, they are very wary of handing over their credit card details again.

Enjoy the graduation party - don't forget your hood and axe.

I have a great idea.

Sell out to Yahoo for 40 x revenues.

The insiders could make a fortune.

(Even if you don't have a profit, you can sell on a multiple of revenues. And Yahoo still has billions of cash to spend.)

Hi Rick, welcome back. When you write: "I'm putting a lot of time and resources in brand new sites that will bring freshness and cutting edge resources for everyone" does this mean you wiill be searching the www for unusual sites not presently listed in TBP? I don't know quite how to take that remark.

If you do, don't forget to look for sites that feature: mature ladies, dressed in fine lingerie getting slowly undressed down to fully nude (I am throwing that last one in for my pal the Cap'n!)

That is quite the niche messmer! hahah

The freshness is mainly referring to modern function and design. I get depressed for a second when I stare at our stone-aged sites.

To put a slightly different angle on it.

A lot of us are really fed up with the in your face unsubtle graphic hardcore.

We would like to see the return of tease & eroticism, but unlike the 'Only' sites actually deliver full nudity.

It really shouldn't be as tough as it is!

Seems in the last few years many sites have become distracted from what members of sites want.

If you look at Porn 50 years ago and now the mainstays are about the same. Yet the majority of porn has migrated south in a bad way ( my opinion) and why that all fine and good they have left many many many admirers standing on the side lines wondering what happened. Since 2007

Ah, I see what you mean now, Rick. In my mind you were about to appoint someone to cruise the internet to discover interesting sites that are different and cutting edge and then talk them into listing with you.

But I am sure that what you are about to do will be good as well!

Unfortunately, the style has gone out of the majority of what's out there. It's a porn mill world - and it sucks ass! Not to underestimate Rick's abilities, but I wish him a lot of luck in finding something new that suits those of us who are fed up with gonzo. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I wonder what the next move will be ?

Main stream media on TV focuses allot on stripping and strip clubs and that and they do so as erotica for movies and TV. Makes me wonder why the Adult world is so disconnected from its users. I miss what was only a few years ago nice bumb and grinds that were lead up by a strip, or even undressing by straight and Lez couples. There are few workout ones I say that were really steamy but the majority is stuff and fuck with POV and odd camera angles. Even pics do this and is hard to appreciate pictures without perspective. You can not just sample a firm for pics unless its done right. Since 2007

I am looking forward to the day when to read a PU review, you first have to view an advertisement for 15-30 seconds or more, that covers the PU review page.

If other sites (like YouTube) can do this, why not PU?

It would be a great way for the site to increase revenues.

Maybe Khan can issue me a special contributor's badge for this suggestion.

^I think that this is a reflection of the porn industry in general because it is very quite out there. There are so few movies being made and new girls keep leaving before they have even shot more than a handful of scenes. Long live the Brown Coats.

If it meant the difference between saving PU and losing it, I'd look past the advertising. I wouldn't be against static ads - no gifs, no shockwave and certainly no "Skip This Ad" ads, but the problem would be finding advertisers. Ads for a porn site could be construed as an endorsement by us, the users, or by management. That would fly in the face of what this site is all about - users' opinions. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I doubt we'll see much if any advertising here given that would sort of run contra to the whole PU / TBP brand of being an independent and trustworthy porn review site that has avoided blatant ad placement in the past. I know that there are plenty of review sites that do run advertising, really it's no different here (think "discount sites" and special promos), but it's just more subtle.

Frankly, if I were Rick (at least then I'd be younger) I would focus more on rebuilding / rebranding TBP than messing around much more with PU. The money comes from TBP, not so much here. PU has probably never grown to the size that was originally hoped for and it probably never will given that most people just won't put in the effort to bitch or praise about porn sites.

On an off topic issue, I sort of think that given the loss of the weekly drawings that the whole badge system has become somewhat pointless. Once you've hit "newbie" status and your reviews actually count for something the rest of the badges really have no meaning. Maybe the trust votes mean something but I think we'll see a lot fewer trust votes in the future since there is no incentive for a user to hand them out other than because we think it means something. After a while I think we'll only see old timers doing trust votes because we're used to doing it.

Personally, I think getting rid of the raffle was a bad idea because it reduces incentive for people to participate and participation is really what drives PU. I would have reworked the raffle to maybe just one winner per week or do it monthly or reduced the prize payouts but still kept it going. It will probably take a few months before we know if the number of reviews, comments, trust votes and the like are down or not. I hope I'm wrong but I'd venture at this point that there will be a noticeable decline.

What concerns me more is that whilst the raffle has been removed; and I did suggest something earlier similar to Wittyguy's idea for its revision; there has not been anything at all added as yet.

I still join plenty of sites but they are all the same that I normally do and therefore I don't feel like doing another review unless they have really made some major changes or the last review was many months or years ago. I suspect that it's the same for most of us and since there aren't many brand new sites being added to the net then doing a review of a site with multiple reviews is not worth it. Long live the Brown Coats.

I'm doing one review I wasn't intending on doing. If all regulars do the same it will help income a little. I realise as we all do that TBP/PU is a business, but it's one that caters for us, and in many respects given the discounts and raffle winnings, it is one that benefits us.

Here's another suggestion. The old Clint Eastwood line runs "opinions are like assholes, everbody has one," so here's some more unwanted drivel.

To sell, you need good reviews. You need to separate the rookie reviews with less detail that wont sell sites, from the more experienced better ones. Let the rookies grow, and then graduate to the experienced section. Either that and/or have separate sections for dvd, networks, teen. Yes I KNOW you have filters, I'm not talking about filters I'm talking about different sections with their own personality.

I agree, at the very least a rookie and others should have a badge based on points earned. And perhaps have it noted in their review as such. I have heard the word tossed around " rookie" but I think it is more clear to those of us whom have been here awhile what that is at first glance. I belong to other forums where I am a contributor where I also pay for my badge to help the site run. Perhaps also allowing badges to be purchased after probationary time. Reviews may be taken more serious if visitors see a paying member.

Say something like:

Bronze ( pays 20.00 a year )
Gold ( 50 a year )
Platinum (100 per year)

There could be little perks for these members and would show visitors the serious of the reviewers .

The reviewers need to have a goal in mind I think encouraging members is where the meat and potatoes are at.

Also maybe paid members get a shot a guest review to go in the TBP newsletter. The site has potential, but to keep members active there needs to be a carrot. Sure we all love the site, but to keep people coming back it needs to be enticing. I have been doing business consulting for years.
both internet wise and local. Be glad to offer some freebies if you guys are ever interested. I have been pretty successful at it one particular client is a prominent email program designers and another a well known clothing designer. Ok enough my sales pitch offer stands ( for free ) if anyone is interested.

I can't expose details just yet, but we're looking at launching 8 brand new sites within our myporn.com domain, including a fresh new PornUsers rebuilt from the ground up. Since most of our resources are focused on developing and launching the new network, there won't be too much to tinker with on the existing sites (TBP and PU).

The changes wil be dramatic, and take our community to the next level. Most of my staff are building new content in the form of new original reviews (much diff than TBP) and billing/privacy audits. I'm working on the concepts and designs, preparing the templates to push out to my programmer. in about 3-5 months, everything will be pushed out all at once. There might be a few sites debuted early, but it doesn't all come together until we launch everything.

Sorry I'm so vague right now, but it's too early to let everything out of the bag. Hate to ask for patience, but just know we're working quicker and more diligently than ever before. Losing the raffle will be a distant memory soon enough. What we have to look forward to is far greater.

I'll have a lot more details to reveal in a month or two as we get closer. The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

My taste are more varied than yours so that might explain why I'm still joining plenty of sites. Of course joining and being thrilled by their content is two different things.

Hi Rick,
It is good to know.
I know you will have patience from most of us, The site activity has already slowed a tad is my worry. I am cool with everything, but my business brain makes me ask why the preparations were not done ahead of the changes. Transitioning smoothly is key.
Not telling anyone how to do anything and this is not a complaint. But not so regular visitors may look at the site and go HUH??
Again not telling anyone how they should do stuff, but when we upgraded our customers it was done over 2 days at the most to get the best exposure without confusion. Two-three months on upgrades didn't make sense to me guess it doesn't have too but its just my mind thinking not complaining.
I will be honest in the economy stuff like this makes me nervous. But hey just me and my opinions on concerns. Sorry too many years doing this has made me opinionated shhhhh Toads be quiet!

Ok I'm gonna go back in my hole and bite my tongue ! Since 2007

I definitely understand your point Cybertoad. Unfortunately to get to point B, it was best to minimize expenses and re-allocate funds toward the content and development side. There were other changes made behind the scenes as well. At the risk of losing some filler participation driven by the raffle, I'm more than confident the payoff will be far greater for everyone. I agree somewhat with Cybertoad. I suspect there were conversations in the background about finishing PU, but after deciding to carry on it's been a case of having to wing it, as costs had to be cut and there was no time to think of anything.

I did touch on this point a year ago

"I am a little worried about PU surviving in the current financial climate. I have to admit I have been thinking PU may close its doors this year or next, but would love to be wrong"

Not sure whether that makes me a smart ass, smart, an ass, or all three.

Not a lot going on, and I'm generally very patient. A number of recent reviews and comments haven't been exactly inspired. The older members are still around but the place has gone downhill recently.

^Even I am finding that I have less and less desire to add anything in the forum and I only have maybe one or two reviews that I'm working on and these aren't even for new sites.

I still claim that the porn industry in general is going down the Sh..hole so why wouldn't anything attached to it not suffer because of it? Long live the Brown Coats.

Some evidence that something is actually going on here might inspire a little more interest.

Cap'n.

All I can do is give you my assurance that something *is* going on. More than that, I cannot say so I fear you won't have your "evidence".

Problem is these things should have already been in place. It doesn't affect the regulars, but it does affect the income of TBP/PU, because with a dead looking site, the majority who visit PU and TBP, link and pay the bills, will be less likely to visit if the site looks partly dead and unexciting. Things at PU maybe a bit boring for regulars, but PU and TBP is here to earn money. It can't be doing much of that recently. Once people go elsewhere they may not come back.

Sounds like TBP is spearheading the charge into the elusive search for dark matter or string theory physics (insert porn joke about "dark matter" / "string theory" here) ... we know something is going on but can't prove it. Either that or Rick has jumped ship to the dark side and is collaborating with the secret FISA courts ... something is going but we'd have to kill you if we told you. Under either premise it would make a cool novel.

My guess is they're changing the PU background colour from green to blue.

I wasn't expecting it, but it seems like this site has suddenly gotten a lot sleepier since the raffle ended.

I'm sure that Rick and maybe some other staff members have access to stats that bear that idea out.

Has the revenue generated by the PU site dropped severely as well?

If true, maybe you should think about bringing the raffle back, in one form or another.

Or bringing out the planned changes immediately, even if they are not completely polished.
