Over 10.000 registered PUs Did I miss something? A celebration!!! We are now a bit over 10.000 registered users here (today: 10.036) When did we pass that 10.000? (not long ago, I'm sure). Have I been 'out off office' and not noticed some hurrays..?? But ok, it's summer time/vacation time, so... But still think it's great. so: .......and many more. and finally thanks for the nice/friendly ways we communicate here "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on Jun 22, 2010, 07:15am

Remember we had a thread or two about that 10.000 in late 2009 when we where a little over 9.000 - would we reach 10.000 PUs in 2010? - and we did - as early as June... So, yes - it's pretty good. And let's keep the standard we've had so far......... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I would be curious to know how many of the registered users are active, and how active are they? I'm assuming that only a small fraction of that 10,000 registered users are active in the sense that they post reviews, comments, or post on the forum threads. Because while the specific posters sometimes change over time, there are a very limited number of actual posters in any one week or month. Certainly nowhere near 10,000. More like 100 or less, I think. But maybe it's the vast silent majority that somehow controls PU. Is it the silent majority that contributes the overwhelming number of paid memberships that help to keep PU alive?

That's a LOTTA candles! BTW, I saw Emmylou Harris among the many doing a tribute concert to Chet Atkins (on TV). Of course she's a great singer, and she did a variety of styles from country to Michael McDonald's more "urban" stuff. And she was stunning, too! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Yes, amigo - she's a great singer/songwriter - and seems to be a nice and intelligent human being. And at the age of almost 61, she looks, yes, stunning - take a look at one of her latest photos: http://www.emmylouharris.com/ ....and click on Tour - that's a woman who has matured with grace and beauty.. Ahem....a reaction from our hosts at TBP/PU (Rick, Kahn or anybody not on vacation): What do you guys say to this 10.000 deal? It's not bad for you - and since we talked about this before - reaching the 10.000 - I'd be great to hear something from you - and oh, yes: some celebration of a kind.... Any suggestions? Vacation?!? Novel concept but one I'm not really familiar with. Of course we're thrilled to see 10,000 registered users. We're very pleased with the community that's grown here and with the quality of the submissions we're seeing (for the most part). We're aware that only a small percentage of those who register actually participate and we appreciate that participation ... something we try to demonstrate by giving away $$$ every week. (over $30,000 to date) Not sure what you had in mind in regards to a "celebration"? For a celebration, how about free drinks on the house for all registered PU members? And for all PU members who have 5 or more points, how about a ticket for 1 free escort date, with the model of his/her choice? Those are 2 great suggestions for a celebration.

It would be cool to have Stephen Hawkins as a Pu member. It would certainly increase the average IQ of the members. Long live the Brown Coats.

I do buhleev he just sed we need to be intelligenized As far as having 10,000 registered... I'm also curious about how many of us are considered active. But what do you consider active? Posting every week? Every month? Is someone who pops in every once in a while active? Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

My guess is that PU considers all accounts active that have not been disabled/expelled/delisted/whatever. Based on that guess, I am guessing that posting, or even visiting PU, is not required for PU to consider an account as active.

I guess I was asking people how many users they thought were "actively active", as in posting, reviewing and commenting on a regular basis. I know there's no way to nail it down accurately - just curious what people think is a ballpark figure of the number of "regs" here. Without really looking over the site, I'm thinking somewhere around 40 at best. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Of course 10.000 plus here is not "actively active" - and maybe 40 is a bit low - I have no idea - everything here is just a feeling according to memory... Maybe others, including Khan, Rick ect. got a better idea about "actively active".... It'd be fun to know. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

How many post regularly on a monthly basis at PU? I'd guess 40 or less. How many post on an irregular basis, but at least once each month, at PU? I'd guess maybe 100 or less. There are "oldies" that were formerly heavy posters, that drop off the screen. And there are "newbies" that come onto the screen, some with heavy postings, others with a few postings, and then most of those fade into an occasional poster or just fade away for months or years at a time. There aren't many members who actively post each month. Most of the members who visit the site do so in "lurking" mode. Edit: But with fewer posters, that gives more prominence to posters like RagingBuddhist, whose opinions would stand out anyway. Edit02: That avatar increases the visibility of his posts. It's kind of hard to ignore. Edited on Jul 10, 2010, 08:21am

The Active User epithet under the user name really doesn't make much of a distinction. It only really informs that the account is active. Even post count doesn't help much. Maybe a variable epithet based on the following: Who? - Not posted in a couple of years. Remember Me? - Not posted for a year Where have you been? - Not posted for 6 months. I'll put these other intervals up for suggestions. - Not posted for 6 weeks - Not posted for 6 days - Not posted for 6 hours - Not posted for 6 minutes - Not posted for 6 seconds Cap'n. Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award Hilarious Post of the Year 2010 PU Award ( I would have preferred it to be Helpful Post of the Year for Guys who Hate 'Retail Therapy' ) :0/ Sanity is in the eye of the Beholder!

The variable epithet is a great idea - but I would put the 6 minutes and 6 seconds together by saying, "PU set as home page and always here". Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I would not be a fan of the epithet's because it seems it would push more for the I-am-most-active-therefore-I-am-king mentality that so many other sites push and which I never find very inviting. "Top user" and "top poster" and whatever else the sites out there think up seem to just be a way of awarding false crowns to active members. I mean what's the point? PU already has the top posters listed on the User Forum page but does it really say anything beyond the number of forum posts? I have ranted and raved my way close to the top but that's just because I can't seem to shut up...about porn (and I'm already rambling here). If people are really curious about a particular member they can click on their link and see their 'Stats' and reviews, if those mean much of anything. I love PU's egalitarianism and civility too much to want to start ranking members by additional factors. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Those are very good points, turbo. We've already been charged with elitism more than once, so giving us more titles would probably only back up that allegation. Not that it's actually being considered in the first place, but I would still be in favor of having a less incremental system in place. By that I mean something to indicate non-activity after six months or a year or something like that. Maybe it's just to satisfy my own curiosity, but with 10,000+ users, I think it's a shame that we aren't getting more input on here and I'd like to know who all is "present and accounted for". Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.
