The Olympics

Just curious, did all the hot ladies out there in the Olympics get your juices going, or is that just me? Has to be the only redeeming quality of figure skating.

The Norwegian team just about made my head explode in the opening ceremonies...

Someone had to ask right? Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

Honestly, the only thing I've really watched much of is Hockey. Watched both mens and womens Team USA play. Other then that, just haven't felt interested in watching much. I always flip by it each night, just normally not much that will hold my attention.

Waiting for the hockey - mens hockey (sorry, girls - and US-girls - great beating of the russians, btw).
Who's is going to take the Gold?
Only Canada, USA, Finland, the Czechs, Russia and maybe Sweden is up there.
My bet is on Canada.. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

We stopped watching the Winter and Summer Olympics about six years ago because the coverage on American and Canadian channels had become too nationalistic. We missed so many events and medal ceremonies, because none of our athletes were involved and therefore weren't covered by our media, that we gave up in disgust.

I think the straw that finally broke the camel's back was in track and field (one of our favorites). All we saw was an endless coverage of beach volley ball and similar events because the North American audience was not terribly interested in track and field except, once again, for the events in which their athletes shone and expected to get a medal.

I also dislike the inclusion of pros in the games (yes, even the male Canadian Hockey team) and the doping and the inclusion of sports that call for judges who tend to be either prejudiced or corrupt.

Sorry for dampening anyone's enthusiasm in connection with the Games but it's the way we feel. :-(

Hey messmer - I'm really confused - do you mean that the pros in NHL should not participate in the OL - if so - who else is left?
It's over the many years always been great to watch when NHL-players are in the Olympics or World Championship - many years ago I loved watching the canadians beat the russians or the swedish - or any one else. Just was not happy about one thing: That the canadian stars at NHL HAD to play NHL - and could not get time off to play in those world series.
Still Canada is the top when it comes to great hockey - always been a big fan of both Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadians - and the stars over the years:
Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux or the legendary Gordie Howe just to name a few...

Would you believe that I actually shook Gordie Howe's hand, Denner? :-) Shows my age! My view is that the Olympic Games were meant to be for amateurs. If a less skilled amateur hockey team had to be fielded because all the good players were Pros then, so be it. Medals aren't everything, the "amateur" youth of all continents getting together in friendly competition is. I know, I know ... wild eyed idealism.

The whole Olympic ideal has been corrupted because, in the now defunct Soviet Union and its satellites, every athlete became a full time, paid pro because they wanted to prove to the world that their system was the best.

That gave Canada and the U.S. the reason and excuse for fielding "dream teams" in varying sports made up of professionals. I understood the reasoning even though I did not like it because it was NOT fair to us at the time that we had to compete against all those East Block Pros, but since athletes are now no longer so heavily sponsored by the State (clearly evident in the diminished medal counts) it is my belief that we should return to the purer model of absolutely no Pros! Just my thoughts. And it'll never happen, I'm sure. At least not in Canada where we can always hope for one medal in Hockey if we leave the present set-up alone. :-) Edited on Feb 17, 2010, 01:55pm

Have to agree with Canada. As much as I'd love to see the US win it, I really don't think they have the firepower.

And honestly, I agree with Messmer. I dislike the inclusion of pros. Maybe due to the fact of being a American, there will never be another Miracle on Ice. In part due to the fact that pros are used now. The other part being the fact that ABC showed the game on tape delay, so most of the country didn't even know who won when it happened. In todays age of instant information via tv, cell phone, internet, I still find that amazing.

I realize the 2nd part really has nothing to do with the first, just got a little lost in my rant. LOL

I still remember "the miracle on ice!" It was a great and heart warming event. The Olympic spirit was alive at that moment!

Thanks for being honest, messmer. I do agree that the Olympics is extremely nationalistic from the American POV--commercially nationalistic even because it's all about selling crappy products to sheep viewers which is the true American sport. ;) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it?
