Does anyone here use an IPad for porn stuff?

If so, can you answer a few questions please?

I’ve been left behind in the tech world. In the days when computers had processor names that ended in “86” I had the power. Now my computer is like a VCR (remember those?) flashing “12:00” constantly.

My bride bought me an IPad. She claims it’s idiot-proof. I may prove her wrong. I’m mucking about in it okay, and have downloaded some interesting apps, but I also don’t want to be afraid of using it for the same thing I use my PC for: porn. I doubt I’d actually use it to view porn, since all my porn exists on external drives and I see no way to plug one of those into an IPad. But I would like to pop on to PornUsers using it, though I’m not sure about browsing history. If I used Safari or the Google app to access PornUsers, I’m assuming that leaves a bit of a trail. Does it? I know in Google I can clear the search history, but even if I do that can my past sites be discovered? I’m assuming that since my bride will likely pick up the IPad and use it once in a while I’d be best to not sign on and have the site remember me. Does this make sense?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I am jealous that you had power in the days of the 86. I've always felt that I was like a dog chasing its own tail in the tech world of PCs. And my tail just keeps shrinking as I get older. I thought things were supposed to get easier as computers "improved". But you couldn't prove it by me.

As far as IPad, I've heard of them, but am still trying to learn my notebook. Too many new things would jumble my brain.

Edit: Since I am a cat person, feeling like a dog chasing its own tail is a strange experience, better avoided.

My comment on 'having the power' in the old days wasn't a boast. I think that computers were simpler then, though that may not be the case. It may also be that I was just more willing to get in there and try things. And it might also be that I was constantly broke and had to learn to fix things myself. And within minutes of giving me the IPad, I think my wife was questioning her decision. I recall her saying, while nearly in tears "I'm married to an old man!" That's only partly true. She is, in fact, married to a dirty old man.

Now where did I leave the keys to my van so I can go give out free beer and cigarettes to freshman coeds...

I don't know if the following applies to the iPad but it's worth mentioning that browsers nowadays have "incognito" windows that leave no trail on your computer. Chrome's one is called "new incognito window" (wrench icon > "new incognito window"), it is called "InPrivate browsing" on Internet Explorer and Firefox has also something similar. No need to keep deleting your history.

Did a quick google search and looks like Safari doesn't offer this on iPad but there are third party apps that do. Of course, having a dedicated "incognito browser" app on your iPad could get you in just as much trouble with your bride.

Thanks for that atrapat. I'll look at that.

You raise a good point that I should have mentioned in my original post. My wife is probably less technologically inclined than I am. She likely lacks the basic knowledge to even go looking for a browsing trail. My worry is that she is more skilled on Apple products so I don't even have any idea how easy it would be for her to find a trail. I'm trying to level the field a bit.

I envy you your iPad, rearadmiral. I love gadgets but quite frankly I haven't figured out yet what they could give me that a computer doesn't?? I've never held one in my hand, I have never seen one .. so what is their primary task? This Is An Honest question!!! Especially if there's no USB port for a porn download to an external. I assume it is basically for reading the latest news, sports, entertainment etc. while you are away from a computer. Is that it? Or is there more to it than that? Sorry I couldn't help you re. questions of security. Now if you were talking about not leaving a trail on a desk top I'd have all kinds of advice!

messmer, I'd love to give your honest question a good answer, but I can't. Not yet, anyway. One of the things that gave my wife some concern was the way I looked at it when she gave it to me. Imagine the look a Cro-Magnon man would have when faced with a TV. That's the look I had.

But... everyone tells me that there are a lot of productive uses for it. I've been told that I'll find uses for it at work, mostly for storing reference material, but I haven't figured out how to save anything yet so that isn't going well. As for home uses, I guess I'll just have to figure that out. There are hundreds of useful applications for it, many of them free. It can function as a laptop but has no size or bulk to it so it is portable. And with both Wifi and 3G conectivity it can be used almost anywhere.

And having said all that, maybe we'll both get lucky and someone younger will add some useful information to answer your question. But some day a revelation may come that makes this thing seem indispensable. When that happens, I'll email you. Until then, I'll muck through.

Thanks rearadmiral for your honest answer. And along with you I am waiting to be enlightened by someone more knowledgeable about iPads. We shouldn't have to wait long .. there's been millions of them sold!

Don't own one and probably won't but from what I've read you might have a few problems. First, due to legal claims and a general dislike between Apple and some other companies, I don't think that an I-Pad can run flash or shockwave videos. Any sites that have Quicktime download options will obviously run on your machine. There maybe some apps out there that might let you run more video than what comes with it out of the box but I don't know.

I'd probably just get/buy an app that acts as a privacy scrubber and have it set up to run every time you close out your web browser app. Make sure it cleans your browsing history, cookies and all that stuff and you should be fine.

You can save your web bookmarks at Google or some other similar hosting site where you have to sign in in order to access them. Again, that's the safe route. However, you may have to retype your PU log in info each time because I don't believe (again, I'm no expert) that there is no fool proof way of hiding cookies on your machine that let you log in automatically. If she doesn't know about your web browsing ventures to this site, be safe and just retype your log in every time. In my book, being safe wins out over convenience.

It may be idiot-proof, but is it pervert proof?

(Which I guess would depend largely on the ruggedness and ease of cleaning of the screen... )

Apple emperor Steve Jobs may openly hate porn--particularly as it could wrap its sweaty palms around the iPad--but I would think that the company's engineers at least assumed a number of perverts would buy iPads too. And, like with other tech devices, that after a couple of minutes of awe over owning a new iPad, most users would be wondering "Okay, now how can I use it to look at pussy?"

There's at least one mainstream site that I know of dedicated to keeping the 'Pad from being too prudish, and hopefully pissing off Jobs in the process--Pink Visual Pad. (Yeah, everything sounds like a tampon/pantyliner joke with this device.) No PU reviews yet, but it got an 84 from TBP, and a one day trial is only $1, so not a huge risk (though watch out for its cross-sales).

Congrats on the marriage, hope it's going well...and I'm sure she knows what you really want to do with your iPad.

And to Jobs and any other Apple employees dreaming of a porn-free utopia--porn looks pretty damn good on your laptops and desktops. Thanks! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D. Rippper, Dr. Stranglove

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that the IPad will have to be pretty much porn-free because a lot of Windows stuff won't run on it. The serious drawback to that is that when I travel I won't be able to rely on the IPad alone since i can't play any videos on it.

And thanks for the tip on a privacy scrubber. I'll look for something. When I clear the history on my PC I justify it by saying that I want to remove any banking cookies that can be hacked. I suspect the same excuse will work with the IPad.

I was vaguely aware that Steve Jobs is anti-porn, but I guess I just tuned it out because I didn't own any Apple stuff. Given how porn has tended to drive new technology I'm surprised that Jobs would have this attitude. Who else would want a 4-head VCR, DVDs, and high-speed internet? Sure, a few religious nuts and sci-fi geeks might want that, but mostly it was driven by us perverts. And what thanks do we get?

No thanks at all by Steve, it seems! Just for that I am sticking with my PC! And if I ever buy a tablet it will be by RIM (getting in a bit of a plug for a Canadian company!)

My answer here is that I do not see any need for an ipad. I'll stick to my PC and a laptop when I need a computer away from home.
