Dodgy Billing Practices? From the reports on here recently, there seem to be an increasing number of scams & underhand practices going on. Am I wrong in reading this as desperation? Cap'n. The sites are trying to increase their revenues. Reputable sites don't use scams, but a lot of reputable sites do use pre-checked cross-sells. I guess the sites that use pre-checked cross-sells don't realize how many potential members find pre-checked cross-sells irritating. Also, some sites do make it harder to cancel subscriptions than normal. If it's really difficult to cancel a subscription, you could call that a scam, or an underhanded practice.

One of the reasons I come to Porn Users is the heads-up on some of these practices, besides using them for searches of sites that would interest me. Warning Will Robinson

Scams are only scams if they hide what they are doing. The law allows them to keep the money they get from you if they said they would be taking it no matter how small the print. There was a TV ad, Free Credit Report.com whom got in hot water a few years back they never said it required them to enroll to get free reports until after the fact. The ad now clearly says it cause they were sued. Every service on the net has either at one time scammed or allowed other to scam others. Facebook,Ebay,Amazon to name a few allowed other to steal millions from others before safety was put in place. Advice only deal with sites you trust, and if unsure drop and email to them asking something about the site. If you never get an answer, might want to rethink joining. Since 2007

Well, a recent comment shows a 'reputable' site ( DDF ) is now resorting to these practices. Large sites should set an example for the industry. This is REALLY not good! Cap'n. Yes, I have been following that one and making comments. Should we not be batting for porn users as a whole? If I realise there's a pre checked cross should I not worry providing the site doesn't have other dubious practices. Are my comments too harsh or unfair on that thread? I don't think much has changed. The guy who got the screw job from DDP waited until the second day of a two day trial to cancel and got caught by prechecked cross sale (I recently did the same 2 day free trial and had no issues cancelling without rebilling). I've ranted more than once about prechecks but they've been around forever and I don't see them going away any time soon. It's been a long time since I got burned on a billing issue and I have to say it's mostly because you got to take a few extra seconds: 1) look over the signup page at least 2x and make sure your scroll all the way up and down and look for boxes to check/uncheck. 2) Always, always, always cancel right away. On a trial that means within the first hour or two. On a month, cancel within the first two days. I almost got burned by babesnetwork.com when I cancelled a month long membership. The cancel page said I would receive an email confirming cancellation. Long story short, I never got an email even in my spam folder and had to jump through some extra hoops yesterday to ensure I got it resolved before the rebilling period started. 3) Use a prepaid credit card with a low $$ amount on it. Even if you miss something or you get screwed, they're only going to take you for a few extra bucks, not a few months worth of membership money. Internet porn is always going to be on the periphery of acceptable / ethical billing practices because it's mostly unregulated and spread all over the damn world. Someone is always going to be looking to take your money, especially once you start strolling further from the mainstream sites. I always treat pornland as "buyer beware" to limit these types of problems.

Here's another one - cancelled Throated yesterday and can no longer access their members' area despite having two weeks left on my membership term. I quite liked the site, but with that being my last interaction with them, I can't see myself rejoining in the future.
