How Romance Novels enriched my vocabulary! I have learned that a vagina is a woman's "center" or "heat," that her labia are "folds" and that during an orgasm she "shatters in(to) a million pieces! And now you know!

Thanks, mess .......now I won't be embarrassed by ignorance when somebody brings up "center" when he's detailing foreplay with a sex partner. One of my wives also similarly used to "shatter into a million pieces." Not from orgasm, but on matters like refusing to entertain her mother on her visits.

Reminds me of Patton Oswalt's "Clean Filth" routine on saying something dirty in a G-rated form for TV and in the process making it a lot more horrifying. "I'm going to fill your hoo-ha with my goof juice!" The funniest--or possibly the creepiest--versions of these are when sites write descriptions for video scenes and use words that a ten year old would recognize but in a context designed to attract a horny adult. LOL. Wives tend to shatter into a million pieces for all kinds of reasons, don't they? Especially during menopause!

Craig Ferguson does similar messing around with the censors on his late, late show. Not to the same extent as Patton Oswalt but enough to make CBS nervous ... which is a good thing.

I've watched his show a few times and though it loses its novelty pretty quickly it's still way less annoying then all the eardrum-rupturing bleeps heard on other shows. Interesting how these are all self-imposed by the networks lest the FCC punishes them for the thought-crime of uttering a "dirty" word. Land of the free, baby! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? What exactly are the rules for this? I seem to recall reading somewhere that the FCC standards only apply at times when a minor might watch. I also still don't get why more cable channels don't push the boundaries more, since they largely comply voluntarily with these regulations (why does comedy central bleep Stewart/Colbert cursing?). As per the OP, I always found the descriptions in romance novels entertaining, especially the ones that used words I know lots of women hate like moist (my sister used to leave these in the bathroom, and it was either that or the shampoo bottle for the 30th time). Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars. Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

I'm not sure of the exact rules--and there are times when it seems nobody else does either--but the FCC's online guide says that it's against the law "to air obscene programming at any time" and profane and indecent broadcasts between 10PM and 6AM. It's an interesting if totally infuriating read, and considering the consequences I'm betting cable networks simply don't want to risk getting fined like broadcast networks have. (To their credit, cable networks do stream uncensored versions of some of their shows online though.) Of course this is what should be most offensive to anyone concerned with a liberal and open society; when individuals and groups fear their government because of the free expression of ideas. It's also why I still much prefer the Internet over virtually anything as presented on TV--the various "decency" and "family" groups have yet to fully sink their Puritanical fangs into a medium that is still largely uncensored. And it's why I love PU; I'm not creative enough to use the euphemistic language of a romance novel! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it?
