Is Skype selling users' addresses?

Twice during the past week I've had complete unknowns ask to talk to me on Skype. Only my brother knows my address, so how did sweet.barbie and boy.toy (not their real handles but close) get a hold of it? Spam on Skype is deplorable. I wonder who on their staff sold them out?

I doubt anything was leaked or that the spam was targeted. My wife keeps Skype on and typically gets several spam "talk" requests per day.

Don't worry about it, MS did not sell your username to sweet.barbie nor boy.toy.

People with nothing better to do with their lives create scripts that run through all possible usernames for hits, and when one does hit, it's flagged as a hit.

It doesn't make the situation better, but it's just like your email address getting hit by spam. Your ISP didn't sell you out, a script either scraping email addresses from elsewhere, or randomly forming addresses, sent the spam to you.

Thanks for the info. I still can't get it through my head how that could be done. A skype address is completely different from an email address. Let's assume that I used my fake name: peter messmer and registered with Skype under peter.messmer, then it would be within the realm of possibility. But how could a script ever get a hold of my address using my real name, which in the case of Skype usually means first and last name, separated by a period. I use Skype twice a year. I don't use facebook or twitter where some script could harvest someone's real name and try some permutations? I am really puzzled by the whole thing.
