For the same reason that people discriminated against Donald Trump by electing him President. Present a confident face, and roll over it. That's the best bet.

Because there are a lot of ignorant, bigoted, self-righteous people out there that desperately want to tell others who they should be and how they should act. Those who don't follow the mores dictated by "moral majority" are treated with disgust and disdain for being one of "those people". These are the same people that worried if Harmony Rose should be a volunteer EMT. They weren't even paying her but they were worried that her previous porn career might reflect badly upon the rescue service and that maybe they should stop her from saving other peoples' lives. (Huff-Post) The unfortunate truth is that there are a lot of morons in the world. I do my best to ignore them and focus on the brilliant and beautiful things being done by that minority, the world's intelligent population, but occasionally you can't help but notice the morons. November 8th, 2016 will forever be one of those times for me. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo

That's the short and long of it. It's really unfortunate and speaks a lot to our society's inability to treat sex like adults. There was a documentary made about the topic (Life After Porn - on Netflix) and there are other articles written about the phenomenon: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/27/porn-stars-the-death-of-a-sex-industry-profession.html Contrast that to Italy, which has a more, shall we say, liberal approach to pornography and have even elected pornstars into parliament: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilona_Staller

Good point! Italy is much more reasonable about that sort of thing. Mara Carfagna comes to mind as well. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo

Oh America. Gotta love it. Bet the bosses who turn away ex-pornstars are guilty of whacking it to some PornHub video right now as I type! Or cheating on their wives with people in real life. I would totally hire an ex-pornstar as long as he or she met the requirements for the job. I would want to ask them a lot of questions about their experience, of course, but who wouldn't ?
