I must be weird I must be weird. I hate coffee. I have tried it a few times and I still don't like the taste or see the attraction. All I ever hear is how bad the coffee is and how expensive. I must have saved a lot by not becoming addicted. I have never bought a lottery ticket. I have saved probably in the thousands of dollars by now. The odds of winning enough to get back your life time investment is astronomical. I have never owned a cell phone. I am retired and a landline works fine for me. I have a cheap plan and that is enough. Some people have replaced their phones several times and that can get expensive. As far as their monthly plans, I think they are crazy expensive. This is all for what? You can talk to your friend later and not sit on the machine at the gym using your phone. I looked the other day and of the 35 people at the gym, 27 were using their phones. I also pay for porn and don't use tube sites. Call me crazy and weird.

Dude, you're not weird, you're just old. Alright not entirely. My most irrational belief is that one day I could actually win one of those big ass lotto's but at my current rate of investment (a couple of bucks a week) I'm thinking I'm going to need that money to pay off the debts I accrue after being alive for thousands of years. Let's face it, we'll all weird. I still drive a car with (gasp!) a manual transmission without any GPS devices and do my own car repairs though I couldn't do that without Youtube. I could care less about the “on demand / need it now” consumer economy (sorry Amazon Prime). I prepare almost all of my meals. I too marvel at the current gym trend of seeing how little one can actually lift in an hour while working those thumbs to death on the phone. I've never watched porn on my phone. My weekly dose of social media takes about as long as it took me to write this post. I still think pop music is better when you have guitars, not computers, playing along. I still read physical books. I disdain identity and tribal politics on both the right and left. I still open doors for total strangers and on occasion will actually talk to strangers in public instead of burrowing into my headphones or screens. I read the terms of use on phone apps to see how much privacy I'm giving up and mostly then decide to not download it. If at all possible I try and fix shit when it breaks instead of tossing it … though my mind is another story. I actually enjoy walking over driving. I almost never use emojis Oh yeah … I still pay for porn. Welcome to my weird world.

If you guys are weird, I'd say weird is underrated. I've bought lottery tickets, but not for the past 20 years or so and doubt I'll ever again. I have a cell phone out of necessity but I take a utilitarian approach and don't rely on it for entertainment and certainly not for "social networking" -- a concept that I don't give a rat's piss about. Walking down the city streets, I'm one of the weird ones who isn't staring at the little screen as I do. Of course, no one notices this. Coffee, though? I've gotta have my two cups in the morning, but that's it. Any more than that and the hormone levels are gettin' too funky for this brother. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

The modern world is not so bad That's what the students say Put down the cigarette and act like a true girl [tm, Jonathan Richman, 1976] I love you guys. I'm a little schizo though. I'm a 20th century man who likes the conveniences of the 21st century. Cell phones! The bane of my existence. The worst invention ever. Not a day goes by that I don't curse my fellow man while trying to traverse the streets of New York. Dang cell phone zombies. There's even talk in several cities of banning the use of cell phones while walking the street. Good luck with that. I readily give up my subway seat to anyone that looks remotely deserving. However, I can't tell you how many times I've seen the elderly or pregnant women have to stand while sitting yuppies are too occupied to notice their plight cuz their head is buried in their cell phone. Remarkably though, I've had people offer me a seat which only pisses me off. I may be a bit elderly but I'm in good shape. I think to myself "do I really look like I'm in need?" But it restores my faith in mankind.

I must be part part of the weird group because: I love coffee but it usually requires that there be milk or cream with some sugar but I don't like the various flavours people add to their coffee. My nephew gave me is old cellphone(1 yr old) but I still haven't activated it yet but I think I may have to for work but I will wait until the last moment to do that. That said I will still never be a slave to it like so many people. I buy the odd lottery ticket but I usually give it to a family member. Long live the Brown Coats.

1. I never liked the beverage coffee either. I do like the coffee flavor on ice cream or candy, but not the drink itself. So you are not alone in not drinking coffee. 2. I have bought lottery tickets. I also never win them for the most part. Sure, I won $60 years ago and a few bucks here and there. The reality is the lottery has made a profit on me. I don't buy them now. 3. I do have a cell phone and it's all I use now. I don't use it like you see everyone else. I have a landline only because it is part of my cable package which keeps the price down. Once the deal is over, the landline will be gone for good. I see no use for a landline as I take my cell phone with me if I need to use it. I can live with it being turned off though. 4. I pay for my porn as well. I think those who produce porn will stop if they don't make money on it. That would be sad for all of us here. "Dogs think people are Gods. I do like coffee, but to be honest, it's really because it gives me a wee bit of a buzz. I don't get totally sped up on it, but it just gives me enough of a boost in the morning or during the midafternoon slump. When people rave on and on about how one type of coffee tastes better than another, I don't really get it. It all tastes very bitter to me and I can live with that - I don't even bother with milk or sugar, either - just grin and bear it. I do buy lottery tickets, but I know I am an idiot for doing so. But, hey, I used to be a smoker (speaking of things that taste awful, but you deal with it in the name of some tiny lift you think that they give you) so when I throw my money away on lotto tickets it seems less self-destructive - well, at least to my actual health. It's a corny overused line, but smartphones make people stupid. I see folks cross the street without looking up from their screens - I also see individuals texting while driving or even when they're riding a bike. And on a less dangerous note, I hate the delay when the elevator doors open, while you wait for those texting to realize it's their floor. I feel like I must lose a day each year in waiting on the delayed reactions of cell users. As to paying for porn or any other kind of entertainment - I figure you get what you pay for. I've heard of people having to deal with all kinds of problems when it comes to pirated content. But even without worrying about computer viruses or legal woes, who has the time to spend hours hunting around just to watch the scenes you like? And they may also be crappy quality on top of that! My time is worth enough that I'd rather spend a few bucks and be able to see my porn in Full HD or heck, even 4k.

I was reading over mbaya's post and was thinking, "I thought I was weird". I not only don't drink coffee, I won't drink anything that's hot. Think I've tried coffee twice and both times it was 0 degrees outside. Only made me colder. Have never bought a lottery ticket. I don't even know how to play. I do have an iPhone, but I also have a landline and was just talking about letting my cellphone's service lapse since I mainly used it for my job and have switched jobs. I won't say I haven't used tube sites Notice the planned double-negative use. The one thing I do find interesting on tube sites, I've only visited two, they have a lot of promo clips that sites I assume are allowing them to use. Has the full name of the site branded on the videos. I've tried a few sites because of the clips I've seen on tube sites. Think that was kind of what Rick was going for with the My Porn site. Somewhere, a young psychology student is reading this and planning on dropping a survey on us about the habitual and "strange" personalities of porn users My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I'm somewhat of a coffee snob. I'll grab "whatever" from the local convenience store when I'm in the morning rush to get to work, but when I'm home it's a different story. Grind my own beans and French press is the only way to go. I even bought a non-glass press for when I'm camping. Black and maybe a bit sweet. Milk or cream turns it into a milkshake. I only buy lottery tickets when everyone else is throwing a ton of money down - when the jackpots are astronomically high. Figure 5 or 10 dollars for a shot in hell at being able to quit work and do what I want for the rest of my life is worth the loss. No smartphone for me. As much as I like the Internet and my computer, I don't want to be connected 24/7, can't stand texting, don't want a $150 a month bill and don't want to be in a panic looking for a charger every day. I have a flip phone that does what I need a phone for. Phone calls on an old plan that I won't give up - $30 a month. I used to hate tube sites for their crappy quality, the virus potential and the resultant spam in my email inbox. But now, like has already been mentioned, pay sites are using them to advertise. My last few joins were directly tied to something I saw when looking for something new to check out. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I THINK OF MYSELF AS A COFFEE SNOB BECAUSE I ONLY BUY TASTERS CHOICE INSTANT COFFEE. I HEAT THE CUP OF WATER FROM THE TAP IN THE MICROWAVE, ADD COFFEE, STIR, AND SIP SLOWLY. MUCH EASIER THAN USING A COFFEE POT. NOT SURE WHAT FRENCH PRESS IS, BUT IT SOUNDS COMPLICATED, AND ANOTHER PIECE OF EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT TO BUY. INSTANT COFFEE IS THE WAY TO GO: SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE, EASY TO MAKE, EASY TO CLEAN UP (JUST THE CUP AND THE SPOON, NO OTHER EQUIPMENT NEEDED. SOMETIMES I WILL ADD A BIT OF SUGAR. BUT I GOT AWAY FROM COFFEE CREAMERS, MAYBE 50 YEARS AGO OR MORE.

EXACTLY RIGHT. BUT I DID BUY A STARTBUCKS GIFT CARD FOR MY BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY. MAYBE I CAN TALK HIM INTO TAKING ME TO STARBUCKS. I DON'T THINK I'VE EVEN BEEN INSIDE ONE OF THEIR STORES. WAIT. I TAKE THAT BACK. I HAVE VISITED STARBUCKS, TO READ THE FREE NEWSPAPER THAT IS SOMETIMES OUT. BUT I DIDN'T BUY ANY COFFEE (OR WHATEVER OTHER DRINKS THEY SELL).

A French press is neither complicated nor are they expensive, especially when compared to all the electric gadgets used to make coffee. They're basically just a vessel to hold hot water to which coffee is added, allowed to steep for a few minutes then a plunger is depressed to push the grounds to the bottom. There is a slight learning curve in that you need to learn how long to allow the coffee to sit before using the plunger. Different size grounds require different steep times. But, after mastering that with a couple of trial and errors, you wind up with a brew that's unlike any other. Drip makers filter out the essential oils that make coffee full-bodied and percolators over process and overheat the coffee by recirculation. The one I use at home cost about $30, the one I use for camping was around $25. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I USED TO GO TO MCDONALD'S FOR COFFEE. WHEN I FIRST MOVED TO MY CURRENT HOME, A SENIOR COFFEE WAS $0.42 INCLUDING TAX, WITH ALL THE REFILLS YOU COULD DRINK. THAT WAS 1990. IN 2017, A SENIOR COFFEE IS NOW $1.09 WITH TAX. BUT I CAN'T DRINK THAT MUCH COFFEE ANY MORE. PART OF GETTING OLDER. THE ACID IN THE COFFEE BOTHERS MY STOMACH. I USED TO DRINK SEVERAL CUPS OF COFFEE PER DAY. ONE OF LIFE'S PLEASURES. BUT NO MORE. I'VE SWITCHED TO TEA. BETTER FOR MY STOMACH. SAD, BUT TRUE. TEA SEEMS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT IMAGE. LESS KICK, LESS MANLY, MORE REFLECTIVE. BUT I HAVEN'T SEGUED INTO THAT MINDSET FULLY YET. I STILL MISS MY COFFEE AND CIGARETTES (I GAVE UP SMOKING JUST BEFORE MY HEART ATTACK, AND IT MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE: I COULD BREATHE MORE EASILY. Edited on Nov 10, 2017, 10:00am
