Rumors: Is Chris Evans hanging up his Captain America uniform?

Rumors: Is Chris Evans hanging up his Captain America uniform?

A photo opportunity at the upcoming Ace Comic-Con MidWest in Chicago this weekend, with Marvel Studios actors Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Tom Hilddleston, Elizabeth Olsen and Karen Gillian is priced at $635, but those passes are sold out.

$635 for a chance to be in a real photo with 5 of the best superheroes?
(Does that include admission to the convention itself, or is that a separate fee?)

Enquiring minds want to know.

Chris Evans’ ‘Avengers 4’ Salute Sounds Like Farewell To Captain America Role
by Geoff Boucher
October 4, 2018 10:44am

Marvel Studios linchpin actor Chris Evans may have just said goodbye to the role of Captain America. The 37-year-old star took to Twitter on Thursday with a bittersweet tone and posted the following message:

“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

Evans had hinted more than once in recent seasons that his tour of duty as the star-spangled Avenger was drawing to a close. The next Avengers film, due in theaters May 3, 2019, has also been framed as the culmination of an era for Marvel Studios, which has released 20 films over the past decade with an interlocking mythology and box office success that are both unprecedented.

Evans was introduced as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. He seemed destined to play the patriotic part — the chiseled actor was born in Boston and his zip code as a youngster was 01776.

The star’s career also makes him the ultimate symbol of this era of comic book films in Hollywood. When the fourth Avengers movie is released, Evans will have appeared in a staggering total of 16 films based on comic books.

That total accounts for 10 films in the Captain America costume as well as two as the Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four franchise, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, The Losers, Snowpiercer and TMNT, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film from 2007.

Evans will appear in person this weekend at the Ace Comic-Con MidWest in Chicago for a paid appearance to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans. Fellow Marvel Studios actors Don Cheadle, Tom Hilddleston, Elizabeth Olsen and Karen Gillian are also on board for the event. The fan appetite for Marvel superhero films could hardly be higher: a photo with all five actors is priced at $635, but those passes are sold out.

I think it was always a question of time before he hung up his costume. He has already played the character 8 times and it will be 9 by the time the next Avenger movie gets released. In many ways they sort of telegraphed what will happen in Infinity War. It wouldn't surprise me if Robert Downey also does a swan song at the end of the next Avenger.

They killed off way too many characters in Infinity that have sequels coming up and both Chris and Robert have both talked about wanting to do other things. Chris has two post-Production projects on the way and five pre-production
that are on the way sometime after 2019. Roberts has three post-production projects and two pre-production. That does not leave a lot of space to do more Iron man or captain America movies.

In many ways I am getting ultra tired of seeing so many Super Hero movies. It wasn't so bad at first because you had one each year then it became two but we have had at least three MCU movies each year since 2017. If you couple those movies with DC movies then the number is actually five super heroes in 2017 and four in 2018. It's looking like we will have at least five super hero movies in 2019.

It's beyond over-saturation. It's now f..king annoying. Long live the Brown Coats.

Robert Downey will never make the kind of money he is making off each Marvel comic book movie from any other kind of movie.

The same can probably be said for Chris Evans, to a much lesser degree.

How much money is enough?
For a lot of people and actors, there is never enough money.

As of 2018, Robert Downey Jr.'s net worth is estimated to be $300 million.

But look at George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Multi-billionaires, and still going after as much more money as they can get.
Another Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had a domestic run over $300 million.
Worldwide almost $800 million.
Not including the toys and other profits.

There will be a new Raiders movie for 2019.

Money talks.
Downey, for years, has been talking about the end of his Iron Man movies.
But the money keeps him coming back.

$300 million personal net worth for Downey. Most of it from Iron Man.

Harrison Ford will be in the 2019 Raiders movie.
Even if he has to be in a wheelchair.
Money talks.

^There is no arguing with your statement that money talks but I daresay that Downey who is now 53 may be happier just doing smaller roles for less money but greater critical acclaim and a lot less press tours then MCU movies require. It's not just the shooting schedule but all the weeks if not months of promotional touring that he has to do as part of his contract.

Doing smaller budget movies usually means smaller shooting schedules and very little touring since the studios don't have the budget and that means more time for Downey and no Evans to spend time with friends and family. Long live the Brown Coats.
