Kirk Cousins: Playing games without fans due to coronavirus would be ‘refreshing’ Kirk Cousins: Playing games without fans due to coronavirus would be ‘refreshing’ But the question is: how can you play football if you are obeying the 6-foot-distance rule? Will the players keep at least 6 feet away from each other? Will everyone wear surgical gowns and surgical masks on the football field? And will the football be dis-infected every time someone touches it? Enquiring minds want to know: --------- --------- Kirk Cousins: Playing games without fans due to coronavirus would be ‘refreshing’ Yahoo Sports Ryan Young Apr 15th 2020 4:51AM Nobody knows what the NFL season will look like this fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought the sports world to a complete halt over the last month. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, however, thinks that there are “creative and unique ways” to ensure that the season takes place at least in some form. One of the options many have floated is to simply play games without having fans in attendance. While that would undoubtedly provide for a strange atmosphere — and still put players, coaches, officials, staff and more at risk for contracting the virus — Cousins said Tuesday that he actually wouldn’t mind playing in an empty stadium. In a way, he said, it would be kind of nice. “Honestly, we practice every day in an empty grass area and pump in fake crowd noise for away games,” Cousins said, via ESPN. “But more often than not, you’re used to it. OTA practices don’t have a lot of pomp and circumstance to them. “So honestly to go out and just play the game would kind of be refreshing, a breath of fresh air, to just let us know that we don’t have to have all the smoke and the fire, we can just play football.” Cousins threw for more than 3,600 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing better than 69 percent of his passes last season, his eighth in the league. There were more than 580,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States as of Tuesday night and nearly 1,700 in Minnesota. At least one notable health expert, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, told The New York Times last week that he didn’t think it would be a “plausible possibility” for larger gatherings like conferences, concerts and athletic events to return until “fall 2021 at the earliest.” Regardless, Cousins doesn’t care how it shakes out. He just wants to play. “As long as we’re playing the game, I won’t have a lot of complaints,” Cousins said, via ESPN. “And hopefully if it’s still not returned to normal, we can find a way to make it work.”

Even if they are willing to take the risk, they could potentially contaminate others. These guys were suppose to be in school on a scholarship while playing in collage. Did they learn anything. Warning Will Robinson

I'll add to this what I currently know. Part of my job is working within a mid-major university's athletic department. Currently, we are planning on having fanless football games in the fall. The current procedure would be that only players, coaches, officials and announcers would be allowed in the stadium. Each one would have to have a negative Coronavirus test the day before the game. What college and pro teams won't tell is it will be more profitable than with fans. Local television networks are bidding for rights to broadcast. Advertisers are lining up. Double sponsorship will be allowed with each sponsor getting their name/slogan across the top of the screen and across the bottom of the screen. There will be around 700 salaried and insurance paid workers that won't be working from vendors to cleaners to ushers to security. The highest cost for us will be hiring a remote producer. Their job will be to control the drone held cameras and to play recorded music by the marching band, recorded crowd chants and simulated crowd noise from a remote location. The stadium's seats will be covered by tarps with advertisers logos on them. I would imagine this will be a dream scenario for professional teams. Nearly no overhead and they'll be able to sell "season passes" for relatively cheap prices for their fans to watch all their games on television or across a streaming device. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk
