Recommendations sought I have a large number of downloaded video files which are about 50% larger than they need be, usually due to the fact that they're encoded at excessive bit rates, in this case 1080p videos encoded at 12Mbps where 8Mbps is plenty enough. I have software such as Any Video Converter and Movavi Video Converter which allow you to recode video files to a different file format and/or a smaller bit rate, but I find them to be slow on my ageing PC. I was wondering if anyone here has used similar software which works fast on a new or fairly new PC? I'm hopefully going to invest in a powerful desktop PC later this year and it'd be good to know what works well and/or makes full use of the multiple cores of modern CPUs and graphics cards. I agree with SpillingSeed handbrake is amazing. There's some stuff for mac users I could recommend that might have a little more intuitive UI. But handbrake is rock solid and does a great job (I think there's also a Linex version | |

I use nero recode. it will do what your asking and more. You can custom convert to specific devices while adjusting the file output size too. If it lags your pc down while converting you can also lower the "priority" to ease the strain on your cpu.
