What is stopping you from trying VR? I bought an Oculus Go recently and have been loving it. I don't check in here too often because this site doesn't seem super active but I never see anyone talking about VR. I find this really strange because I know there are some pretty hardcore porn users here and VR is like the best thing to come to porn since...computers. So I was wondering what is stopping you from trying it? It costs $199 and can just be returned if you don't like it for some reason. It requires no PC, phone, or technical know how. So what is the reason you have not tried VR yet?

I cannot afford VR. You throw out that it costs $199, but to some of us, $199 might as well be a thousand dollars. It's also got the disadvantage of being an expensive toy that has little practical application. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

That's interesting. I'm sorry to hear that. I would not have guessed that someone on such a tight budget would be spending money on porn subscriptions at all. As for no practical application I'm not sure what you mean. It's as practical as any display device.
The purpose of a Go is primarily as a display. So...beyond VR porn you might use it to stream 2D NetFlix for example or watch a movie. The cool thing is you can watch in a virtual theater with a movie theater sized screen while lying in bed if you want. Much cheaper than buying an actual theater or a large TV. I don't like stealing from sites, so feel the best way to get porn is to pay for it. There are lots of sites I'd love to join, but pretty much just have one or two memberships going at a time because that is what I can budget for. I also have a tight budget, but that is not why I don't go VR. My taste in porn does not require it. I like to either download photo sets or good quality videos and make snapshots. I like to edit them to create my own story. From what I've seen you can't take snapshots of VR. Warning Will Robinson

Same as Biker above I prefer to download photo sets so I don't really see any need for VR. Maybe it's an age thing but even if I watched a lot of videos the idea of sitting at home wearing some kind of contraption on my head which involves a phone screen being about 1 inch in front of my eyes just doesn't appeal to me. I already can't see a damn thing on my phone screen without my reading glasses on. I just love my desktop pc and viewing beautiful women on a large screen so I don't see VR ever tempting me away from that format.

Several reasons for me. I don't like to an early adopter. I've done that before and been burned as the technology develops rapidly. I'm fine with porn (and video generally) as it is now so VR would have to be a massive improvement. I'm not as technologically adept as I used to be. The cost is too much for an experiment. If I knew someone who had a VR headset and liked porn and I could see it work and had a sense of how to make it work that might be different. But for now I can't see making the leap any time soon.

They've been out for at least 3 years.
It is a massive improvement. I deleted all my 2D videos after trying it. They are boring in comparison. Recently asked on reddit: is it worth it? Edited on Jun 28, 2018, 08:22pm

To me it doesn't make any sense to buy one. Like RA said and Loki was talking about, I'm satisfied with porn how it is. You know the old saying of "if it ain't broke". VR isn't being helped by the 3D and 4K enhancements that most of us don't even use. I'm still satisfied with 720p. And, in my opinion, the single-biggest obstacle VR has with porn is having to wear a headset that covers your eyes. Up until a few years ago, no one was doing that and we should know by know that porn isn't something people are 100% comfortable with as it is, so why add a physical discomfort to it? Last and it's my biggest reason for not trying it, it takes imagination and fantasy away from porn. That's the very thing the porn industry has been doing and annoying porn users with for over a decade. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

What I think you guys fail to understand because you've not tried it is that it's not "Oh the same old videos but they have a 3D effect". No, it's more like "I am in a room with this porn star and she's sitting right on top of me!" But unless you've tried it you just don't get it I guess. There is no physical discomfort, why are you making things up? And as for if it aint broke, by that logic we'd all be still sending smoke signals to communicate and getting polio. My point is that you are really missing out, and don't understand just how much. Oh well, I tried.

I have to admit, I don't indulge in VR very often, but VR motion sickness is a very real thing. I can only take about 15 mins or so before I need a break to settle my stomach. I was surprised too since I don't ever really experience motion sickness either in cars or planes or even on amusement park rides. I have heard that with regular use that feeling can go away. Anyway, to each his/her own. We're all different and we've all got our favorite ways to enjoy porn.

I've certainly gotten motion sick in VR games. But I've never heard of anyone getting motion sickness when watching a VR porn video as you are always stationary. I don't understand how what you describe is possible regarding porn. Edited on Jun 29, 2018, 03:41pm

I doubt any of us want to return to VHS tapes and magazines you had to buy in the back room of a seedy bookstore or a liquor store. Or even further back, stag films in 8mm or slides. I'm not sure it's an age gap. Jade1 truly loves VR porn, but as Amanda "to each his/her own." We come together not because we all like the same niches or mediums of porn but because we all like porn. Yeah, if it's anything like 3D movies, it will give me a headache! I have seen a few Hollywood blockbusters in 3D and once the novelty wore off after a few minutes, I felt fairly nauseated. I picture VR being a similar deal.

I'm confused, Jade. You asked for opinions and received them but you reply, "Oh well, I tried." Did you want more than opinions? The main point I would make is I don't see what you're trying other than the old elementary school sarcasm. If you're wanting others to understand what they're missing out why not explain what makes you love it so much or maybe even answer questions that us temporary Luddites understand better? I didn't make anything up. The VR headset companies all advertise about how their newest set is lighter and more comfortable to wear. My concern with comfort wasn't just physical comfort. A couple of the top porn magazines, Hustler for sure, maybe Playboy, did research years ago that went into porn causing premature ejaculation in men due to the young men being used to hiding in the bathroom to masturbate while their parents and/or sibling beat on the bathroom door. There's a known arousal (whether positive or negative depends on the person) that involves the risk of being caught masturbating. It seems like the VR headset would increase that risk tenfold. Unless, you live alone or you're in a living arrangement where you can have complete privacy. Which leads to a few questions: #1 Is there an external speaker or does it integrate through the viewing area of the headset? #2 In the model you linked, the available sizes are 32GB and 64GB. I have only looked at VR files on DDF's site and some were as big as 15GB. Is that right? That you're going to be pushing the storage limitation with 2-3 videos? #3 Could be #2a, can you expand the storage with a USB drive or am just missing something? #4 Maybe a silly one but can you link two headsets together so you're watching the same thing with someone else? The device itself, to me, comes off as a solo device. #5 And the one that makes me feel the dumbest. How do you get the videos to the device? I notice above that you said a computer isn't needed. #6 (last one) I have tried PS4's VR with Skyrim VR and honestly it made me laugh a lot since I had to use two little bulbs to move my sword and cast magic spells. Is VR porn like that? Don't take this as anything more than me having a sense of humor. Do you use two bulbs, one as your tongue and the other as your dick? I'm just thinking that could be dangerous if my girlfriend walked in and decided she wanted a VR threesome. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

In the case of the Go they have built in speakers in the side straps + a 3.5mm headphone jack if you want to use your own earphones.
DDF is a really poor site for VR content. Here are some good ones. The average video size for the Go would be 8-10GB. It is true the internal storage is not massive. Many people keep videos on their PC and stream them to the Go or copy them over via USB a few at a time. At $199 I don't think they could have got crazy with storage.
There's a micro USB slot on it that can be used for that purpose but my understanding is that software for it wasn't ready at launch and will be added shortly.
A while back I had used an application where people could watch the same video together in a virtual theater. The headsets were not connected directly though. It was people connecting to the same server online.
Technically if your connection is fast enough you could just stream the videos from a website you were looking at inside the VR headset. You don't have to store them at all. Many VR sites have that feature. In my case I download the videos using my PC and can copy them to the Go via a USB cable.
There are "games" that behave something like that. But the main attraction are VR videos. And in those, no you have no input at all. You simply look around.

Thanks Jade, as with most technology, I am intrigued. So, there is a browser type software within the headset? I was thinking back to the days of the Sega Dreamcast and how it had a basic browser included back when very few people even had a computer or internet connection. Glad to hear the bulbs are not in porn. That whole process with the games reminded me of trying to play pin the tail on the donkey with a blindfold on. They are OK. I'd give them a B. Their main problems is that they are about a year behind most sites in terms of the technical aspects of their cameras and video encoding.

The Wrap Robert Rodriguez Launches VR Action Film ‘The Limit’ Starring Michelle Rodriguez Brian Welk | November 20, 2018 @ 7:32 AM STXsurreal, the VR studio for Robert Simonds’ STX Entertainment, announced on Tuesday the launch of “The Limit,” a new VR film from director Robert Rodriguez. Michelle Rodriguez, Norman Reedus “and YOU” star in the immersive new story from Rodriguez, a 20-minute action movie captured in a new VR format that stretches wider than 180 degrees. It’s designed to bridge the gap between traditional, large-format filmmaking and newer 360-degree video. “The launch of ‘The Limit’ is a watershed moment in VR, and gives fans of premium scripted entertainment a compelling reason put their headsets back on,” Andy Vick and Rick Rey, co-presidents of Virtual Reality & Immersive Entertainment at STXsurreal, said in a statement. “In keeping with STX’s talent-driven model, we enlisted Robert, Michelle and Norman, who collectively have millions of passionate fans across the globe, to break new ground and bring this category-busting cinematic VR film to life.” In “The Limit,” you, the viewer, play a rogue agent with a mysterious past who enlists the help of enhanced super-assassin M-13 (Michelle Rodriguez) to retrieve your identity and strike against the deadly organization that created you. STXsurreal also partnered with Academy Award-winning visual effects company DNEG. This is the first in a series of upcoming live-action VR projects from the studio. Other in-development projects include a Jay and Silent Bob project from writer and director Kevin Smith, a crime-thriller from director Christian Gudegast, an untitled Dave Bautista action-comedy, and an underwater sci-fi-thriller from Johannes Roberts. Robert Rodriguez will participate in a fireside chat on the Oculus Venues live event platform on Friday, Nov. 23 to discuss “The Limit” and show clips from the VR film. Audiences can tune-in on Oculus Go and Gear VR. You can also purchase and download “The Limit” as an app now on major VR Platforms, including Oculus, Steam, Samsung VR, Viveport, Google Daydream, Google Play and Apple iOS.
