What doesn't Manwin own? The guys at Manwin are pretty smart - not all that ethical, but smart. They started with tube sites, I believe, and made a ton of money off the advertising, while lowering the value of pay-sites. Then they went on a buying spree. They now own Brazzers, Twisty's, Reality Kings, Digital Playground, approx 1/3 of Playboy Enterprises, some portion of Wicked - or perhaps they just get the fees for running the website. They might also now own FTV Girls, but I'm not sure about that. Kind of amazing!

They don't own part of Wicked, they just run their website for them. At AVN this past year, the head of Manwin announced that he took out a multi-million dollar loan from Wall Street, and basically said he was looking to buy any and every company that was willing to sell. Which, in this down economy, is apparently quite a few companies.

I think a lot of sites would jump at the opportunity. So many are running at a loss right now. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I know that many people in the industry are not thrilled with Manwin but I sometime wonder if it has less to do with their business practices and more to do with the fact that manwin did something they never thought could be done. People in the porn industry are by far their worst enemies. Just look at the condom issue. If they had all gotten together and implemanted some simple changes then they probably wouldn't be facing a mandatory condom use for porn shot in LA. Long live the Brown Coats.

Really? What did they do wrong? The final breaking point was the AIM Clinic's insistence on maintaining confidentiality as to their client list, but it was pretty clear that the city's AIDS administrators fully intended to close down the industry's clinics and implement this rule. It wasn't any fair process.

"Their business practices" included devaluing their competitor's businesses by releasing their content for free and pretending they had nothing to do with it. That's a pretty rightful thing to be pissed about.

^Don't get me wrong. Manwin was in no way an ethical company but their crime is more in having done it first and better then for having done it at all. Most porn companies have have at one time or another screwed each other but because the industry was such a huge money making business then a studio could overlook the other studios transgression but as the profits started to dwindle to nothing then every penny became important. I don't know if Manwin is still as unethical as they were in the beginning. As they buy more and more comnpanies then tube sites become more their enemies than their friennds because the content on those sites actually belong to them so they are now stealing money from their own pocket. Long live the Brown Coats.

Except that they aren't stealing money from their own pockets, because the tube sites actually make them money as well. Maybe not as much per "member/user" as the subscription sites, but not a small amount, and tube sites have more "members/users" than subscription sites. As a matter of fact, even after they bought Brazzers, they were still making more money off of their tube sites than they were from Brazzers memberships.

It constantly amazes that anyone thinks the tube sites don't make money. Why would anyone open a site which is expensive to run and then continue running it at a loss year after year? Of course they make money! Any tube sites which don't make money will go bust. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

They don't make money like a paysite, no. But then LOTS of things don't make money in the same way as a paysite. Lots of sites make money (or extra money) from advertising, commissions, royalties etc. But that doesn't change the fact that they make money. No-one willingly runs sites that lose money. ^I'm sorry if my statement implied that tube sites don't make money because I completely agree with your statement about the method by which they make money. I'd even add that many paysites now make their money from the royalties and commission they get from tube sites. Long live the Brown Coats.

That's not quite how it works, as far as I can tell. What can happen nowadays is that tube sites now occasionally refer people back to the pay site that the video actually came from, and sometimes the pay site gets subscribers that way. But the trick is that when that happens, the tube site gets a referral/commission for sending people to the pay site.

They get the affiliate fees, but they also get the advertising. Has anybody ever seen a single page on a Tube site that wasn't completely filled up with advertising? They're not paying for content, they're only paying for the bandwidth/server fees and legal fees, and they're raking in the bucks off advertising and probably some affiliate fees by horndogs they've turned on with the crappy vids they have.

These days I rarely link to any other sites unless there is a clear advantage for me - I can't afford the page space otherwise. All my outgoing links either gain me a significant of return traffic, or earn me commissions. Have a look at the way StripGameCentral is structured. The front page doesn't appear to be full of advertising, in fact it's meant to look the opposite, but there are about 8 outgoing links which aim to make additional revenue. It's only a small portion of site turnover but it all helps in this recession. The most difficult thing later has been having suitable sites to link to, to earn those commissions. So many sites have gone under in the past few months. I've had to removed about a dozen from my outgoing links so far. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

Apropos of this topic, ALS Scan and Met Art have announced a partnership: "MetArt Takes Over Management of ALSScan Posted Jul 12th, 2012 12:41 PM LOS ANGELES—MetArt has announced that it has formed a partnership with ALSScan.com to take over management of its primary website and affiliate properties. ALSScan.com joins the current collection of sites in the MetArt Network that includes MetArt.com, SexArt.com, TheLifeErotic.com, Errotica-Archives.com, and EroticBeauty.com. In addition, affiliates of ALSCash.com now will become affiliates of MetArtMoney where ALSScan.com promotional tools and content will be housed. This move provides affiliates with a massive catalog of new promotional materials and affiliate support. MetArt plans to relaunch ALSScan.com with a new tour and redesigned members area that will continue to offer original high-quality ALSScan content and frequent new content additions while bringing new style, convenience and better conversions to the site. "This is a win-win for MetArt and ALSScan alike," said Jill Taylor, vice president of marketing at MetArt. "ALSScan in an industry legend with amazing, unique content that has been in demand for more than a decade. This partnership will extend the MetArtMoney site offerings with content that meets our high standards and expands our niches." ALSScan was launched in 1996 and has long been a leading provider of solo-girl content featuring the industry's top models and serves a wide variety of niches. MetArt, founded in 1999, is a top site for erotic art online. MetArt's market-leading creative, technical, and marketing expertise will allow ALSScan to reach a vast new audience and deliver its amazing content to the world like never before. "ALSScan is very pleased to join the MetArt family," said Alex, CEO of ALSScan. "This new partnership will allow us to focus more on the production end, while we let the marketing experts at MetArt handle all of our promotions and advertising. This will enable us to improve our product and expand our productions into new and exciting areas. The folks at MetArt are a great group of people and we really enjoy working with them. With the launch of SexArt.com earlier this year, the purchase, redesign and integration of Errotica-Archives into the MetArtMoney affiliate program, and the complete relaunch of EroticBeauty (formerly MetModels.com), MetArt is expanding at a rapid pace with additional enhancements scheduled for the coming months. For additional information on promoting or partnering with the MetArt Network, contact Jill Taylor at jill@metart.com." Good for them - that's 2 very high quality sites, in my opinion

Very true - It's never bothered me, and their site "works" better than many sites that have better design, but it's not an attractive up-to-date website and MetArt's websites are - and they "work"

Thanks for this update, PP.... Always looked into the company behind sites before I join - some are ok, some really good, some sucks - so the more we PUs know about those site/network companies, the better.. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"
