Over 4TB's of porn storage stolen...so what does the victim do? Got a call from a cousin today, who lives in rural North Carolina. A small town close by where he lives is abuzz over news that one of their up-standing citizens just got cleaned out of his huge Porn collection. How, one would ask, did the news get out in the first place? I mean, could we imagine that sort of thing happening to one of us? Have you ever thought of what you would do if it did? Lord only knows how long it took for this guy to collect all those thousands of gigs, only to have it swiped out from under his nose. Thats right, the thief went right into his house and went straight to his collection...Pooof, it was gone. Just how angry could you get if some SOB did this to you? I know some guys who'd think about killing over something that serious. Does it take something like this to happen in order to give us a wakeup call..that we need to be more cognizant of how precious our collection really is? Anyway, I thought you'd find this interesting. Doggone it!.... I'm currently having a senior moment. I know there's something else I need to add here..but I'm drawing a blank. I'm gonna have to call my cousin back....I know it's something important. I'll get back to you.

Oh yes, now I remember. I was supposed to tell you what the victim did. The guy did just like any other law-abiding, good upstanding citizen would do... THE DUMMY CALLED AND REPORTED THE THEFT TO THE POLICE !

How did the thief know there was a porn stash? How did the thief know where the porn stash was located? How did the thief take the porn stash? Did he just pick up the guy's computer and drive away? Or was the stash on external hard drives, or DVDs, or CDs, or what? 4 TB. That is a huge stash. The easiest way to store that much data would be on external hard drives, but for a collection that large, it would take years to collect, so a good part of the collection might have been on CDs or DVDs. But like I said, how did the thief know where the stash was located? Is the thief someone who knows the victim? Or did the victim talk about his stash to acquaintances? A lot of questions to think about. But I doubt the police will give this theft a high priority on their casework. They are probably laughing about the guy who got ripped off.

This is not a movie review, lk2fire. How the heck am I suppose to know all those minute details? You got the story as it was given to me. That's it! You're very creative digging up stuff...use your wields.

My apologies, graymane1777. You started this thread by posing all sorts of questions about what we PU members would think if this had happened to one of us. But I'm taking my thinking cap right off, because you're not going to be supplying us with the real answers.

No apologies necessary, lk2fireone. The aforementioned story prelimiaries, albeit sincere, was thrown in to bulk things up and add some drama and suspense. Had I only said "he called police." the impact would've been compromised... and the nagging question on the minds of the readers wouldn't have been "when's he going to give us an answer to the damed topic?" Think of it like a scary movie. Take the scare out and what'ya got?

Theft is theft. If someone broke in a took harddrives/storage DVDs of data from me I'd call the police anyway. If nothing else by notifying the police you can claim back any lost hardware on your insurance. Just think how about my porn collection...the vast majority of my collection is made up of the original masters from the shoots. It's completely irreplaceable. Mind you I do keep three backups at two separate addresses to be safe. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

1-Unless other things were stolen then we are certain that the thief knew the existence of the porn stash. 2-Since the thief knew about the porn stash then it has to be someone your cousing told. 3-Unless your cousin likes to share the news that he has 4TB of porn then the list of suspect has to be small. 4-Depending when and how the thief stole the porn collection will also limit the possible suspects. 5-I hope your cousing didn't have any stolen or illegal content because if the police find the thief and then also discover that some of the content is stolen/illegal then your cousing could wish he had never mentioned it to anyone. Long live the Brown Coats.

As ever, Ed, your input is always interesting, informative and a welcomed source of enlightenment. So let me broaden that some by imparting a little from my end. If you don't already know, the Southern States, and especially the area of this incident, is tightened to the last notch of the Bible belt. And As they might say: "We'uns don't cotton to that sort of thing" (and the like) is written in stone. Needless to say, the practice of obtaining porn (although tolerated) is frowned-upon. The City Fathers know well the side of bread their jobs are buttered on, therefore go all out to appease their constituents. This guy (victim) was really courting a backlash by exposing this thieft..if but from nothing else than falling out of favor from the townfolk. I can't say if the embarrassment he'll experience is worth the insurance money or not, but the sooner this thing is buried and forgotten the better off he'll be. Don't expect any ware and tear on the shoes of law-enforcment on this one. Edited on Nov 21, 2010, 08:52am

What you describe sounds like something from 50+ years ago to me. Most people here (UK) don't care what someone 2 doors down the street is up to. Most people in a neighbourhood won't know or really care what their neighbours are up to as long as they aren't being antisocial or rude. A few months ago there was a British guy in the news because he was doing porn shoots in his house. A neighbour found out, took offence and staged a protest (with other neighbours) outside his house. The victim called the police and they told the protesters to finish their protest and move on because he was not breaking any laws or being antisocial. The "bible belt" sounds like another world! Only the rural parts really. Rural areas often close knit, "everybody knows everybody" Urban areas like all urban areas, don't know'em, not trying to get shot finding out either. But much of the south IS rural, so...yeah But far as porn in the south goes, Christian conservatism has a vise lock on that region, and the law as such. Not as bad as it used to be w/ the rise of internet and ability to get smut incognitus, but even now some places e-tailers won't ship to out of concern for dealing w/ potential issues w/ obscenity laws.

Thanks, Ben, for tossing in those few extra nuggets of support on this issue. You said it all very well. As a result, I think Ed will get a better picture now of how diverse our regional cultures can be. BTW....haven't seen anything from you on our forum prior to now. We'd like to see more.

I don't know if you read my thread carefully or not, but based on what I said I can see no earthly way my cousin could be involved in the thieft. NOTE: "The town was abuzz with the news." Going by your theory everybody in the town is a suspect. If my cousin isn't playing a practical joke on me, then I would conclude he got the news the same way I did -- he heard about it and passed it on. I mean, for Pete's sake, he doesn't even live in the town. Besides, he'd have a hard time anyway hiding all that storage in his small apartment.

graymane1777, are the rumors true that your cousin is mob-connected? I mean, if he's really in the mafia, he could have been involved in the porn hijacking, even if he wasn't at the scene of the crime when it took place. Maybe the porno stash was hijacked because the victim was slow in making payments for that porn? Jeepers, if your cousin is mob-connected, does that mean you were on the wrong side of the law? In your earlier days, of course. But once in, you're never out. How far up did you get as a mafioso? Soldier. Underboss. What? This is exciting. Finally we can hear the real dirt from a true mafioso! Should we be calling you Don graymane1777, or what?

I guess I read the initial post wrong because I got the impression that the person who was ripped off *was* your cousin. In which case, questions like those that have been asked here would be reasonable. However, if this is just a passed on "I heard this story" kinda deal, then it's understandable that details would be hazy. I do completely understand what you're saying about the bible-belt. Mobsters like Graymane are often spare in the details they give out. It's part of the code of Omerta. Either they're hazy, or they stand on the Fifth. But as members of the PU inner circle, we've also sworn to a code of strict behavior. So it wouldn't be wrong for Graymane to share a few of his secrets with us buddies. I don't know how you do it, lK2, but like I've always been saying: "You know everything". And, of course that can be a good thing (or) it can get you into a world of do-do --- which, I'm sad to say, is where you've navigated yourself to at this moment. Because I'm afraid the consequences now facing you are beyond my control... You now have the misfortunate of knowing too much.... as your recent post here concerning my connection with the under-world clearly spells out. You can be quite a likeable fellow, iK2. which is why what's going down is gonna be so hard for me. We're all gonna miss you around here, Big Guy...as well as the void left from those long-winded Hollywood movie commentaries.... But my boys, (sob) we gotta do what we gotta do. I wouldn't bother gettin' ammo for your loving sniper rifle, my friend, won't do you any good. I will promise you one thing, because you're a member in good standing here at PU.....and that is you won't feel any pain. Farewell, fellow pervert.... just think about how exciting it's gonna be meeting all your departed movie heroes, and those Starlets you've fantasied about. Edited on Nov 22, 2010, 03:33am

Since this thread has created some questions in the minds of some, which obviously I couldn't answer, I decided to do a little snooping on my own. For starters, the place where this thieft happend is so small that on some maps it probably don't even show up. I guess the only thing that saves this small rural community from complete obscurity is it's notoriety and obsession for hunting game, especially deer ( that would be the four legged kind) which apparantly thrive in the dense woods and feed off the abundant vegetaton. I tried to get the police chief on the phone, but he wouldn't talk to me. He was thoughtful enough though to get a spokes-person on the phone for me who had all the facts about the theft. As usual, when news of this sort falls upon a small country town, tongues everywhere are wagging and the facts tend to become skewed and distorded. Suffice to say, the actual loss on this poor guy's porn collection was significantly less than was reported to me by my cousin....which probably explains why it didn't leak out. But I can say the guy's loss from his rare and valuable storage collection was never-the-less staggering. The last thing the spokesman said to me before we hung up was: "We're trying to keep a lid on this thing, so please don't let it go any further."

graymane, have you been reading Mark Twain, and that put you in the mood of crafting your own tall tale? The "fact" that the police spokesperson said, "We're trying to keep a lid on this thing, so please don't let it go any further", sounds like something Twain would have written. I guess I was slow to catch on, but it sure seems like you might be pulling our leg on this story. And I fell for it, like I usually do.

For a man who's on the Mafia hit list, you seen to be rather upbeat, amigo. Didn't you read my earlier post? Mark Twain....C'mon, lkidnone, I ain't got no interest in readin' books. But how bout' you puttin' your money where your mouth is? I'll bet you a thousand dollars (an' we got that many and more witnesses) that I can authenticate this story. I had to ponder this, I mean that is tons of porn. I wonder if they stole the 5 gallons of lube he must have had as well LOL. But seriously, I think this was an inside job, I mean know one stands on the corner saying look at me I watch porn and have millions of videos ! I think this guy bragged to the wrong person. Ok, not that anyone here would do it, but if you knew your neighbor would be gone and had a several TB external drives sitting in the den full of porn and they had a bad door lock. Would you get some porn? Or copy his drives and return them? Be honest now ! Since 2007

It doesn't necessarily have to be in the Bible Belt--remember the vast majority of porn is (openly) produced in Southern California, with some in San Francisco, South Florida, and New York City. Yes, it is also made all over the U.S. but just not as blatantly about the exact shooting location, though the Internet seems to have loosened things a little, and the bigger concern is where it's being sold. What I'm getting at is that religious objections to filming people bumping uglies for entertainment purposes are not just limited to the bible belt, they're only the strongest there. But all over the U.S. there are conservative religious organizations (usually Christian) willing to voice their objections to porn, and the law frequently is on their side to some extent. In other words, you can take your 1st Amendment and go fuck yourself. Or at least be prepared for a fight, because if "morals and values" are at stake the porn makers never seem to stand a chance. My vote for a crazy sex-related American law is Texas where state law prohibits most dildo and sex toy sales, and I think possession of six or more is legally considered an intent to sell. Yours (Cybertoad) and lk2fireone's skepticism about this story, as it was initially given to me, is completely justified. It ended up being more than I could swallow also...hence the reason I followed up and did some of my own research... the results (in part) are posted on #18 of this thread. I will add, judging from the information I got from the reliable source, that the (victim) was selling this stuff in the community. This appears reasonable to assume, since the area is almost wholly made up of a strong religous population. So my guess is they make it difficult for legitimate porn finding its way into the area. I know this much, they sure don't want this thing to grow anymore than it already has.

Thanks for the link, RB. Those are some funny laws (though not that surprising in America... ). I can't even begin to imagine what's going on in the minds of the degenerates who dream up this nonsense--of course we are who we elect, so I guess the blame's on us! I have always thought that I have way too many skeletons in the closet and demons in the head to run for office, but reading over a few of our stranger laws such as these makes me think I don't have enough. That and I probably not creative enough to think this shit up. --- Edit: Congrats on having 500 posts--that's a lot of rage! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it?
