As always, continue to check your finances and credit cards as we all know how vulnerable they can be even without doing business on the web. I've seen a couple of lists of mainstream sites that should have their passwords changed if you have an account. It's good just to update your passwords from time to time anyway, plus making sure you never repeat them across multiple sites.
I don't use any password management myself; I guess it's like cloud storage, where I feel like there's is just too much separation between me and my info/data. I'm basically paranoid if I can't directly control my own passwords or access to them. And then you still ultimately need to remember the master password to unlock all the others. Sort of like how physicists haven't really come up with a practical way to start a fusion reaction without first starting a fission one. I do use this site however to help me generate strong random passwords up to 128 characters long (I personally don't feel truly secure until my passwords reach into the triple digits ). You can also control if it includes symbols, uppercase, numbers, and similar characters. Of course I have to save all these generated passwords myself--plus their associated username, since I can't remember that most of the fucking time either!--and that's the catch for me since I know that's vulnerable as well. The thing is you either have to save all your passwords somewhere yourself or use a manager since a password that is in anyway memorable is inherently vulnerable. Again, don't use a password for more than one account and avoid real words, phrases, and any info that could be associated with you. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Damn, my credit card was already compromised. Fortunately, the bank caught it right away, and it seems for now that any harm has been averted. They did ask me about that "ALS Scan" transaction showing up on my statement, and I was like, "Yeah, that's OK." They probably had no idea what it was anyway. Once my new card comes, I'm definitely taking a break for a few days until things get patched. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

Heartbleed is not a virus, but a bug. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartbleed patching software (the OpenSSL library and any statically linked binaries) fixes the bug. That is, you have to update OpenSSL on your web-server.

Nothing on unusual on my credit card statement, that I just received. My anti-virus provide did send me a warning about using my card until they have developed a way deal with this. Warning Will Robinson

Never underestimate hackers. They're insidiously cunning. The remarkable thing about these vermin is their ability to hide and entrench themselves so deep into your system that you couldn't get them out even with dynamite. I've fought these pieces of with every weapon that's out there, and its like trying to stop Superman .....the bullets just bounce right off. I've just trashed and replaced my Avast anti-virus software because they've completely infiltrated and took over the wheel. I try to open certain files, and I get a message that I'm not permitted to open it. In fact, because of that, and many other worse infractions so blatant that .... one gets the idea they're rubbing it in by tossing you the finger. The point I'm getting at here, is there's no doubt in my mind that they've taken over completely my administrative powers ... and kicked my ass out on the sidewalk. I've gone the gamut hiring outfits on the web promising to clean house .....useless as tits on a bull! I've had my system restored more than once from the bottom up ..... and they still pop-up again and take up residence. My theory is that they ride piggy-back on old files I bring over. External drives aren't immuned either ......they broke through an expensive drive I bought last year that was tripled encrypted. My files disappear in Gigabyte lots. I'd suggest one not sit back resting on your laurels and think you're safe ....they're like voracious little armored termites ...... their waste and destruction doesn't surface until its usually too late. Give'm credit for one thing .....Their tenacity knows no bounds. Why do I tolerate this? well, its easier on the nerves to just join the pack. How did this all start? TAKE HEED, THIS IS IMPORTANT; Think twice before letting one who you think is legit ... come onto your computer via "remote" on the pretense they're doing you some good. They just might be backing a moving Van up to your front door. Edited on Apr 22, 2014, 10:05pm
