The Future of Porn: VR or Robots? Hey I just wanted to create a thread for all those who are interested in what the future of porn holds in store, especially when considering all the different technological advancements that are being applied to it. So obviously VR has taken off in popularity, and some of the better headsets have accompanying controllers with built-in haptic technology. These can be used for watching porn or playing 3D sex games. There's also sex robots, which are not as widely available but popular in many people's imaginations. I can just imagine how expensive and potentially heavy a unit could be. But then again maybe you don't have to buy a whole robot, you could just buy the head, or another body part that you're especially fond of. There's sexbots, which are not sex robots, but sex chat bots. Connected to an A.I. interface that could interact and provide stimulating dialogue for even the most esoteric fetishes. I'm thinking of the A.I. in the great 2013 sci-fi flick, Her. Then finally there's teledildonics which are sex toys like vibrators, fleshlights and other appliances that have had smart technology integrated with them so that they can be controlled remotely. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about any of these? Or do you have any inventions or ideas of your own for the future of porn and tech? -D | |

I don't think it's necessarily bad or good, I think it comes down to personal preference and how far you're willing to go, personally, with this type of technology. For me, it'll never replace the real thing of course, but I imagine there's a lot of fun and creativity to be had with it and if people enjoy using VR, sexbots, etc. I say go for it! Just a random thought: Might be an interesting way for couples that want to experiment with threesomes but aren't quite ready to commit to the whole experience? Maybe bring in a sex bot before trying the real thing? Then again, like you said, they're probably really expensive so unless you have the cash, that ends up being a pretty pricey "experiment". You don't understand. A garage. I can't even pull in there. It's like going to a prostitute. Why should I pay, when if I apply myself, maybe I could get it for free?- George Costanza | |

I haven't had any direct experience with robots or VR. But VR seems like the most attractive version: It should be the most inexpensive to experience. And to develop. Robots for sex just cost too much. And the price will stay high for the forseeable future. Of course, once robots are commonplace in the workplace and in the home and office, that could change. Then, robots and VR could be combined, or experienced separately. But that probably won't happen in the next 20 or 30 years. Which is all I'm good for. If that.  | |

For the time being, VR is going to be king, I believe. I think the cameras will get better and the headsets will become cheaper (though the phone versions are already insanely cheap). I believe VR will remain quite passive for the time being, but that the immersive value remains effective despite this. Eventually, adult-oriented, photo-realistic 3d games will become a thing, but I don't think the money is there right now to make that happen. Maybe in 15 years or so. I don't believe sex robots will be a thing anytime soon, real people are simply cheaper. Maybe next century. Haptic-feedback and teledildonics are mostly gimmicky — there will remain a fringe level of interest, but I don't think they are very effective. Maybe somebody will prove me wrong one of these days. I imagine Fleshlight or other adult toy makers will soon work with creators of VR porn in order to sync sensations within the sex toy to what the user is watching in VR. For instance, if a VR avatar bends down to start giving your VR avatar virtual head, the Fleshlight or whatever device you have on your dick would feel a warm wet sensation or something like that. Million dollar idea, you're welcome whoever patents it. Or it could already even exist, who knows.  | |
