Thanks for the link. Hopefully, this type of thing never takes off. It seems like a clear violation of the First Amendment. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

With a conservative US Supreme Court thanks to the Trump win, this will pass their test and become the law of the land. I guess I'm glad I have my collection up to date. This is a state to state thing so many solid blue states will probably not be affected. Still, we must keep up the diligence and help defeat this in the deep red states. "Dogs think people are Gods. How many times are we going to have to fight this shit? I've never been one for jingoism, but these days it is just straight embarrassing to possess an American passport. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo

I read the article and if it was just as clear cut as they make it seem than it wouldn't be such a bad thing but as is often the case with these things. it's the small print that is worrisome because it uses certain words that have a very different meaning from one group to the next and if something isn't clear and precise than it opens the door to interpretation and this is the kind of law where you do not ever want to have people interpreting it the way they want to.
The best example from the article is: Obscenity. That's the kind of word that should send shivers down the back of anyone who loves the Constitution because it wouldn't be all that difficult for a powerful group to tag a site or organisation as being obscene or producing obscene material. This. This is the problem with legislation of this sort. Supposedly the USA is all about freedom of speech, but the moral conservatives don't give a fuck about that. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo

Supporters of this type of bill would likely tell you that freedom FROM obscenity is the important issue. Freedom is such a vague word when it can mean freedom to do something vs freedom from it. Liberty is a better term, because it more clearly means "freedom to" not "freedom from." No one should be able to argue against freedom of speech and the first amendment in this way, but that does not mean they will not try. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

I was all set into writing a long winded speech regarding how little most Americans understand what Freedom of Speech really means but instead I will simply point out that most Americans must really want this type of legislation since they basically elected a Government that wants that kind of legislation. I mean Americans by their votes or choice of not voting have elected a Republican President, Republican House of Representative and Republican Congress. At this point is there anything that anyone can do for the next couple of years and that's only if in the midterm elections people still don't vote for the Republicans. Long live the Brown Coats.

I'll admit the Republican Senate & Republican Congress was a surprise, but I must point out that Hillary Clinton took the popular vote by more than 2.5 million votes. Trump will be the 3rd U.S. President to win his position without winning the popular vote, the 2nd in 12 years. If the Electoral College doesn't stop him from entering the White House (and it won't), then it will have finally and conclusively proven that it is an outdated and worthless institution that is disrupting the will of the people. In general, Americans aren't all that conservative. Marijuana legalization sweeping across the nation is easy proof of that. Yet somewhere around the time of Reagan the moral conservatives got a stranglehold on the Republican party that persists to this day. That group of extremists doesn't represent the average Republican voter, but they are rather thoroughly entrenched and it doesn't look like anything is going to change too soon. If Trump had lost this election as thoroughly as he should have (and was expected to by most, with the notable exception of the omniscient Nate Silver) it might have been the catalyst necessary to shake up that party and knock some of those psychos out of power. With him in power, and the excessively establishment insider cabinet he is building, I don't think the party is going to change at all. Now it is up to the Democrats to listen to the likes of Bernie Sanders and reconnect with the people. Many of the policies of the Democratic party are intended to support the core of Trump's supporters, but as usual, the Democrats have done a shitty job of explaining it. They need to learn how to talk to the common folk. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new America. You know... morons. Trump gets that. He knows that he can continue wearing his $10,000 hand-crafted Brioni suits as long as he puts on a cheap, brightly-colored, trucker hat with a simple jingoistic phrase. It is so effective it borders upon self-parody, yet the fact of the matter is that people are really that simple. They like that he shows strong emotions, that he speaks in simple language, and that he says harsh things against the perceived establishment. They find him entertaining, confident, and powerful. His forty-year quest to attach his name to everything in sight has made him look like a massively successful businessman who has earned the right to exhibit braggadocio. Trump is an amazing salesman for himself. The fact that he is a pretty shitty businessman doesn't really matter in this instance. Democrats, and all of the various hopeful "third" parties, need to be good salesmen too. Obama did it pretty well, leveraging social media to encourage mass participation, as did Bernie, but the party as a whole didn't learn from Obama's lessons. and now we have a nightmare president about to get the keys to the world's largest arsenal of nuclear weapons. So I think I'll just go enjoy life in this bag over here... "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo Edited on Dec 04, 2016, 10:14pm

For all the debate about whether or not Trump will go after the porn industry, it didn't take much time at all to see how things will take a turn for the worse. He doesn't even have to go after the industry directly, but with a conservative DOJ, and conservative appointments to the Supreme Court, things could really go downhill. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

I like your choice but sadly she would not fare any better. I can't help but feel that in many ways Americans aren't comfortable with women in power and therefore you will need an exceptional woman to run for President before she has a modicum chance of being elected. At the moment the only woman that could crush any Republican candidate is Michelle Obama and she will never run for office. Long live the Brown Coats.
