And another question!

It is no secret that I am as old as Methuselah and my secret fear is that my daughters will find a stash of porn after I'm gone. In a moment of rational thinking I got rid of all my treasured porn (well over 4 Terrabytes) but still miss it.

The reason was the advent of Windows 10, an O/S that no longer tolerated True Crypt! Can you tell me which is the simplest encryption program available. I would start a mini collection all over again if I could safely partition and encrypt a small section of my hard drive, or an external drive.

Thanks,

m.

Sorry Messmer, I don't have an encryption program I can recommend for Windows 10. So epic failure on that part. I'm also sorry you lost your porn stash.

I replaced computers a few years ago. My external HD with 4 TB of porn was overwritten due to an error made by my roommate in setting it up. He was a hardware guy too. He just made a bonehead error. It's taken years to replace it.

Personally, most of the people I know are aware I collect porn. If something they find shocks them, that's their problem. I'll be blissfully unaware as I'll be dead.

It obviously troubles you though. It has caused some anxiety, and I sympathize. My major issues with porn aren't about if someone knows I look at it. It's more the ethical and moral issues like the exploitation of young women, damage to the social fabric, and most importantly to me, porn's affect on my interactions with women. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

Is there some reason you haven't looked at Bitlocker for encryption? Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I would like a doomsday system that resembles the one used by a rapture email service that I read about at some point a few years ago.

It's a service for people who believe that they will be swept up to heaven in the rapture. They write emails to the loved ones who they believe will be left behind and those messages are supposed to be sent out automatically after their departure.

The server with these emails is monitored by fellow believers who also think that they will be raptured. And if these individuals don't sign in every few hours (which they would fail to do if they were raptured), the email server will automatically send the messages out.

I'd like self-destruct folders that would delete themselves if I wasn't around to sign into them once or twice a day. Because if I simply leave encrypted files, I worry that someone might think that they were important and would spend time along with money only to discover my porn!

SEND AN EMAIL TO THE MISSION IMPOSSIBLE TEAM.
THEY ARE FAMOUS FOR HAVING THINGS THAT SELF-DESTRUCT AFTER THE MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED.
YOU COULD HAVE THE SELF-DESTRUCT MECHANISM LINKED TO YOUR HEARTBEAT: NO HEARTBEAT FOR 10 MINUTES, THEN SELF-DESTRUCT SEQUENCE TAKES OVER.

If you have Windows 10 Pro (as opposed to the "Home" version) you should have BitLocker built into your OS. You may have to change your motherboard's BIOS settings in order to get BitLocker to work, but that should do the trick.

If you don't have Windows 10 Pro, unfortunately I don't know of any other mainstream, reliable programs you can use to encrypt your entire hard drive.

There are, however, programs that allow you to encrypt certain files/folders within the hard drive. I do not know exactly how reliable they are as I have never used them.

Here is a list of 5 utilities you might want to look into:

In an ideal world, I'd have something set-up that would destroy my porn the moment my heart stopped beating. Actually, it would probably be best if my whole home exploded upon my demise, because I can think of several things in my house that I wouldn't want others finding.

I know the truecrypt team called it quits with 7.1 and made it so 7.2 would only open old files and couldn't create new containers, but will truecrypt not run properly on Windows 10 systems?

I'd suggest uninstalling, finding a mirror to download 7.1 again, and not installing it but seeing if there's a portable option (I think there is).

EDIT: Portable in the sense that the program requires no installation. Portable versions still run on PCs, but they're run directly from the program that is located wherever you want. Thumbdrive, download folder, desktop, etc. Edited on Jul 28, 2017, 01:05pm

Wait, I think I just realized what you mean. You were encrypting your entire HDD, active on startup, and I suspect Windows 10 doesn't play well with that anymore.
