BEST STAR TREK CAPTAIN? GO! WHO WAS THE BEST STAR TREK CAPTAIN? A QUESTION FOR ALL TIME ... For many a decade, nerds have pondered the relentlessly pressing question, who was da shizz when it came to commanding a starship. Most times, the only two characters even considered are Picard and TOS Kirk ( not JJ's Kirk played by *pbbt* Chris Pine). But I humbly submit that that the very basis of that comparision is flawed and should be extended to include all TV show Captains. Listed by date of first broadcast: KIRK (TOS) PICARD (TNG) SISKO (DS9) JANEWAY (VOY) ARCHER (ENT) LORCA (DISCO) Now obviously Lorca is at a disadvantage since we haven't even gotten a half a season out of him yet. So go ahead, I know there's some major Trek fans out there. List your vote for best Star Trek Captain and your reasons why. And for what it matters, the correct answer is: SISKO (DS9) Go! -D Edited on Dec 12, 2017, 12:34pm

I really enjoyed Janeway too! Kate Mulgrew really fit the role well.

Kirk all the way! When one needs a fill of ham, look no further! Picard was the best captain as he was always calm and cool, but Kirk was the most fun. (I mean Bill Shatner, not the lens flare filled movies by JJ Abrams.) "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016) Dogs have masters; Cats have staff.

I grew up with reruns of Star Trek TOS, so Kirk all the way. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

Ditto - I also love her in "Orange Is The New Black" - Kate Mulgrew that is, not her character Janeway - although that would make for an interesting crossover.

Picard was the best, probably because he had the best long-term enemy - The Borg.

I also grew up with Kirk, as played by William Shatner, who made Kirk a more "rounded" character than Patrick Stewart's straight-edged Picard. Shatner's Kirk was emotional and flawed yet committed to his ship and his crew. He might be the strongest reason why the franchise has survived in the popular imagination. BTW, I recently learned that Jack Lord was up for the part ahead of Shatner, but the negotiations failed because of how much money and control Lord was asking for. Probably a good thing, since he instead was able to mastermind Hawaii Five-0. Besides, Hawaii is a nicer place than deep space. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Jack Lord would have put a whole different spin on "Star Trek" tos. I still think I liked Jack Lord best as Felix Leiter in "Dr. No" but I never watched that much Hawaii Five-0. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."
