Download Managers

Dear PU Members,

As a porn collector I usually download a lot of content during each membership.

I use Mozilla Firefox as default browser. For a long time I added a Mozilla Firefox add on called DownThemAll. On some exceptions this download manager worked great. However since the latest updates of Firefox this add on is no longer compatible with Firefox. Hopefully DownThemAll will release a newer version which will again be compatible.

Because of this issue I tried the free version of Download Accelerator Plus or in short DAP. Unfortunately under Windows 10 Pro 64 bit this version crashes more than I want or hope for (maybe because it is the free version ).

I found this article today. http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/the-best-free-download-manager-1328199

I haven't tested one of them but I surely will. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Kind regards.

I also use Firefox.
And used Down Them All for many years.
Was very disappointed Down Them All will not work with Windows 10.
Recently, I've just been downloading directly, without using a download manager.
Maybe I will look into a replacement for Down Them All.
But for my needs, a direct download seems to work fine.

Apparently the developer of DownThemAll is working on a new lite (web) version of his product that would be compatible with the latest FireFox brower. However the release has been delayed because of issues. You can read more about it here : https://www.downthemall.net/delays/. So maybe there is still some hope left towards the future.

I don't use a download manager. I used to, but I found it to be a hassle to set up and run. I just use the browser to do my downloads. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

You're probably correct.
I don't have the patience to check this out.

I did read that the Down Them All author is working on a new version of Down Them All (after he said that he would not because of all the effort involved).

I use Internet Download Manager. It's payware but not expensive and there is good support.

I never used a download manager. I never had the patience to learn how to use them or set them up. I still manage to download a few hundred or more videos in a few hours depending on size.

Do they really facilitate downloading? I never understood how they work. Would someone mind explaining?

The good thing is download managers are a lot friendlier to use these days. The bad thing is websites have realized it and are now having their content refresh every 15 to 30 minutes. Most of the top download managers now have a drag and drop system where you just click on the link to download and drag it to the manager. The better ones have an option to "don't start downloading" since if they start downloading, it all but stops your ability to browse for more. I recently tried one on Bang Bros. My membership was running out the next day and they had 78 scenes on one site that I wanted so I loaded all 78 up before going to bed. Woke up a few hours later, four had downloaded and 74 had errors. That was always my main use for them. Downloading a large amount of scenes while sleeping. But the content refresh somehow changes the download link and it breaks the download manager's ability to download it.

And on the main topic, I too ran into the DownThemAll problem when Firefox pushed the Quantum or Photon browser onto us all. You can get an older version of Firefox that DownThemAll still works on, though. They say it's not safe since they no longer update the old ones but I haven't had any problems using the 57.0.4 build and it allows the add-ons. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

Thanks for the info. I guess it's time to try it again.

The reason why I use a download manager is because of my ISP. My ISP's FUP (Fair Use Policy) imposes a download limit between noon and midnight. From midnight to noon I can surf and download without any limits.

During the week I need to work and I can't afford myself to manually download content till let's say 4 AM when I need to wake up for work at 6 AM. On Friday and Saturday night this is not an issue. I usually add the downloads to the download manager in the evening and program them to download from midnight till noon.

If my monthly download limit is used up they turn my download and upload speed down from noon till midnight. I will still be able to surf and download at full speed than but only from midnight till noon. The 6th of every month they put the downloads and uploads back to zero.
