Man who killed 2 deer in his back yard charged with 7 counts. Man who killed 2 deer in his back yard charged with 7 counts. None of the counts are felonies. The man has sold his home and moved out of state. So I don't know if the police will issue an arrest warrant to force him to appear in jail. The man's lawyer says the man need not appear in person for the misdemeanor arraignment. -------- -------- The Mercury News Marin man who killed deer in his yard charged with 7 counts By Gary Klien | Marin Independent Journal PUBLISHED: May 15, 2018 at 6:46 am | UPDATED: May 15, 2018 at 6:55 am A man who fatally shot two deer that were foraging in his Tiburon yard last year was charged with a seven-count complaint Monday. Mark Dickinson, 54, is facing two counts of animal cruelty, one for a doe and one for a fawn, according to the filing prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Yvette Martinez-Shaw. The other counts, which are alleged violations of the fish and game code, include the unlawful “taking of a mammal;” deer hunting without a license; discharging a deadly weapon near a building; using lead ammunition for game; and taking mammals at an unlawful time, i.e. half an hour before sunrise. None of the counts is a felony. Dickinson is scheduled to be arraigned June 11 in Marin County Superior Court. His lawyer, Charles Dresow, said Dickinson need not appear in person for the misdemeanor arraignment. Dickinson moved out of state after the episode, which drew the scorn of many residents on the Tiburon Peninsula. “The flames of community outrage were fanned by the statements of law enforcement,” Dresow said Monday evening. “Mr. Dickinson trusts that the actual evidence will prove him innocent of animal cruelty.” The incident occurred at about 5:15 a.m. Sept. 2 outside Dickinson’s former home at 2322 Mar East St. A neighbor called police after hearing a crashing sound and a pair of loud cracks. Tiburon police contacted Dickinson at his property. He told police he was chasing deer off with a pellet gun and did not know whether he struck them, according to a police affidavit. An officer told him there were two severely injured deer in the road near the property. “Dickinson said, ‘Oh, cool,’ and began laughing,” an investigator wrote in the affidavit. Dickinson added, “They’ve been eating our yard and I’ve spent $40,000 on my yard and I’ve done everything I can to keep them out of here and they will not leave.” Marin Humane staffers were unable to get to the scene for about 90 minutes. The deer died in the interim. Police booked Dickinson on suspicion of felony animal cruelty. The jail released him pending a decision on charges. Marin Humane took the dead animals for a necropsy. Internal imaging revealed a bullet in the torso of the doe and a pellet toward the rear o Police researched gun registration records and learned that Dickinson had purchased a JD Machine Tech TR1 lower receiver in 2014. Police determined that the product, the foundation for a rifle, was “an AR15-type military standard, or ‘mil spec’, lower receiver,” Tiburon police Detective Russell Stiverson wrote in the affidavit. “This type of lower receiver can be matched with various calibers of upper receivers to make a complete rifle, potentially capable of firing the type of bullet recovered from the doe,” Stiverson said. Based on the witness accounts, the necropsy results and the other investigative findings, police obtained a search warrant for Dickinson’s property. Police executed the warrant on Sept. 8. Police confiscated a Beretta handgun, a Glock handgun, numerous boxes of ammunition, magazines and assorted gun accessories. They did not find the JD Machine Tech TR1 lower receiver. The prosecution delayed charges until lab work on the evidence was completed. It was handled by a private lab contracted by the district attorney’s office. The prosecution released no details about the evidence analysis Monday. “We’re glad to see the district attorney is taking this so seriously,” said Lisa Bloch, a spokeswoman for Marin Humane. Dickinson, a commercial pilot, and his wife Shauna, a flight attendant, sold the Tiburon property in October.

I can't countenance breaking any law, but where I live deer have become a major pest. We have several herds that live in the area (we're relatively urban, I should add) and they freely roam through the neighbourhoods. I have no big issue with them eating all the plants in our yard but I can no longer afford the car repairs. Five years ago I was heading to work on a nearby divided highway when one came out of the median at full tilt. Luckily it mostly jumped over my car and 'only' did $1500 in damage. This past January I was driving to work on a two-lane residential street and a deer shot out between two houses and I hit it in my year-old car. That was a low speed impact but still did $6000 in damage. So the moral of the story is that I should either shoot them or give up going to work.

As long as you have permits, maybe you can carry a rifle or shotgun in your car. I've never had venison, but maybe your wife would appreciate the chance of giving a BBQ for the neighbors. (But I think that dressing a deer might be a messy affair, unless you know what you're doing). Actually, you should consider yourself lucky. Back when I was growing up, there were vegetable farms and cow farm in Los Angeles country. That's all gone to housing and industrial buildings. So 50 years from now, you can tell your grandkids tall tales about how you had to fight off the deer and other wildlife that were on the attack. And that you carried your trusty .357 Magnum revolver for self-protection.

@rearadmiral, I hope you have an understanding wife. One who believes your encounters with deer are not deliberate. Here is an article about a wife who is less forgiving when her professional golfer husband plays poorly. To me, it sounds like the wife needs to be put on meds, to keep her calm. Seriously. Maybe she is bipolar? She attacks her husband for playing poorly. She attacks her mother-in-law for trying to calm her down. She resists being placed in the back seat of a patrol car and damaged the door by repeatedly kicking it. ------- U.S. Glover's wife arrested on domestic violence charges Associated Press Associated Press 7 hours ago PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The wife of former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover is facing a domestic violence charge stemming from an altercation with Glover and his mother after he missed the 54-hole cut at The Players Championship. Krista Glover was arrested Saturday night and taken to the St. John's County Jail. She was released the next day after posting $2,500 in bonds. She faces a May 31 court date on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence battery and resisting arrest without violence. According to the offense report, Glover and his wife were having an altercation after the third round of The Players Championship, where Glover shot 78. The report said that when his mother, Hershey Glover, tried to intervene, Krista Glover began attacking her. The arresting officer noticed cuts and blood on the arms and clothing of Glover's mother. Hershey Glover also told the deputy she had been hit in the chest. Glover confirmed on Twitter there was an altercation. "Everyone is fine," Glover said. "Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter." The sheriff's report said Glover's mother declined to pursue charges. The report said Glover told the deputy his wife often starts arguments with him after he plays poorly. According to the report, Glover's wife resisted being placed in the back seat of a patrol car and damaged the door by repeatedly kicking it. Glover and his wife have two children, a daughter who turned 5 on Monday and a 2-year-old son. He has three PGA Tour victories, including the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black. He also has played in the Presidents Cup twice. "We are aware of the situation and Lucas informed us of his statement, which has since been posted to his Twitter account," the PGA Tour said in a statement. "Of course, we are here to provide support to Lucas and his family if needed; however, we are also respecting their request for privacy during this time."
