People who pay for porn, what is everyone else missing out on?

This thread popped up on Reddit and thought it was an interesting read:

What do you guys think? I feel like the big thing is personalisation, especially with cam girls

EXCUSE THE CAPS. EASIER FOR ME TO SEE AND READ.

IF MODELS CAN MAKE THE SAME OR MORE FROM CAM SHOWS, GO FOR IT.
EASIER AND SAFER THAN DEALING WITH THE CHANCE OF INFECTION, OTHER PROBLEMS WITH DOING PORN SCENES.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT % OF PEOPLE WHO PAY FOR PORN CAM SHOWS ARE DOING IT FOR THERAPY.
I IMAGINE A LOT OF THE CUSTOMERS ARE ALSO TEENS, TWENTIES AND OLDER WHO WANT TO SEE NUDIE SHOWS.

BUT FROM THE CUSTOMER VIEWPOINT: I IMAGINE A LOT OF THE PU COMMUNITY IS NOT REALLY INTO CAM SHOWS: THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. I REALLY THINK IT'S CHEAPER TO GO TO A NUDE BAR (IF YOU LIVE NEAR ONE) AND WATCH THEIR SHOWS THAN WATCHING CAM SHOWS. YES, THERE ARE FREE ONES, BUT EVEN THE FREE ONES PUSH THE TIPPING FEATURE, AND THEN THEY PUSH EVEN MORE THE PAID PRIVATE SHOWS.

FROM THE CUSTOMER VIEWPOINT: MOST PU MEMBERS PAY PORN SITES FOR A MEMBERSHIP. PART OF THE REASON IS TO SUPPORT THE PORN SITES, THAT ARE PRODUCING THE CONTENT THAT THEY ENJOY.
IF NO ONE PAID FOR THOSE SITES, THEY WOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS, AND NO MORE PORN FROM THEM.

I'M NOT IN THE PORN BUSINESS, SO DON'T HAVE A SOLID IDEA OF HOW THESE PORN SITES ARE DOING FINANCIALLY, BUT THE MEGA-SITES LIKE METART AND ITS RELATED SITES, AND MPL STUDIOS AND FEMJOY AND OTHER HIGH QUALITY SITES PRODUCE REALLY EXCELLENT QUALITY SOFTCORE PORN, AND WHEN I JOIN, I BELIEVE I'M SUPPORTING THEM TO A SMALL DEGREE.

THE SAME WITH THE HARDCORE SITES I JOIN.
A PAYING MEMBER IS SUPPORTING THE PRODUCTION OF THE PORN HE LIKES.

BUT THE MODELS DOING SOFTCORE SHOOTS EARN VERY LITTLE MONEY, I THINK.
THEY WOULD EARN MORE DOING HARDCORE. BUT MOST HARDCORE MODELS ONLY LAST 2 OR 3 YEARS, BEFORE RETIRING.
SO THE MONEY IS PROBABLY POOR, IN SPITE OF THE RISK OF DISEASE AND HASSLE OF TESTING AND OTHER PROBLEMS.

SO IF A MODEL CAN MAKE AS MUCH OR MORE FROM CAM SHOWS, THAT'S WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING, INSTEAD OF SOFTCORE OR HARDCORE PORN. CAM IS EASIER, AND SAFER, AND MORE CONVENIENT. Edited on Feb 19, 2019, 09:08am

It is interesting so many commented on not wanting their banks or others to know they have purchased memberships to porn sites. The reality is people watch porn all the time. It accounted for Mom and Pop video stores to survive in the time of Blockbuster. My father would rent a few porn movies along with stuff for the family at a local video store.

As for banks, the employees also watch porn as well. Most everyone at one time or another has. It is nothing to be embarrassed about as the porn industry makes billions each and every year.

As for my paying for sites, I like the quality of the sites I am a member of. The 'free' sites get their porn videos from those who spent the money to create it. It only makes sense to support the good producers of product I enjoy.

Not everyone likes or wants porn and that is understandable. But porn has been with us since man began to draw on caves and it will likely be there when we reach the stars. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

The advantages for me when joining a paysite over using a tube-type free site:
Navigation - I try to include a portion in all of my reviews about a site's navigation because it's very important to myself and other collectors. One feature a lot of paysites aren't using as much now as they used to was the "favorite" feature. My account at videobox has over 200 favorite models in it. Not only does it keep everything there by those models, when a new scene is added, it shows up and makes it easy for me to find.

Legality - Not so much from the pirating side of things as much as having that 2257 code on each site saying the models are all over 18.

Quality - I've seen a few tube sites that offer 1080p but it looks more like 540-720p stretched, this is an even bigger problem if you're looking at photos on a free site as many are 1200 long end or smaller.

Downloads - Considering paysites are now often charging more for a membership that includes downloads, it to whatever extent, shows how important downloads are to people. Going over to the picture side, the only way you'll download photos from a free site is to use a download manager to download all the photo files on the page and that usually includes the site's ads, their banners, their buttons.

What I'm going to call the paysite experience - Updates which could include some or one of your favorite models. Which as mentioned in the navigation part above isn't something you can really do on tube sites, those sites are not good for collectors. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

As one of the few left who was willing to pay for porn, I am at a stage where I now fear giving anyone my card details, in case something happens as it did with Videosz/Bang with Segpay (check out my latest comment.)

With my card now cancelled because of fraud once I get a new one I shall not be sending my details anywhere soon, which means less of my money in the system.

This is a shame for me because I still prefer subscribing to a site over a free tube, and a shame for legitimate porn sites, because they will not be paid for top class content.

The answer is with the government. Yes I know - chortle guffaw laugh whatever. Thing is your details whether credit card or personal should be sacrosanct, and signing you up to free cam sites without your permission resulting in fraudulent charges should be a criminal offence.

We've often heard on here about the behaviour of BangBros and Mind Geek in general, and the dodge around of giving incorrect details so getting through to Epoch. We shouldn't even have to do this. You should not be signed up for ANYTHING, without having to give your details all over again and have to tick "yes" every time they try to make a deduction from your card.

I appreciate what this place tries to do. It makes a profit from porn and at the same time tries to keep it honest, which helps both the customer and the supplier. I know you are trying to help and at the same time make an honest living.

I still prefer paying for porn, but think I'm going to take a rest from the potential hassle of trying to get my money back from suspect sites. It's a shame because many sites are great and the price of porn is very cheap. I'd rather pay double and be secure in the knowledge my details are safe.

I understand the comments around concerns using credit cards. I've been an active online porn buyer for over 20 years and I've had my credit cards hacked maybe five or six times. But it's fair to note that I've had my non-porn card hacked several times as well. Porn sites are probably a bit less reputable than many other sites, but the credit card issue alone isn't enough for me to quit subscribing to sites.

I admit that it can be a bit embarrassing to contact another person and explain the problem you're having. I've gotten over the embarrassment of contacting the billers because my guess is that those billers exist to serve the online porn business. I have no personal knowledge of this, but I suspect that very few church-supply sites bill through CC Bill or Epoch. But it is a bit different when I need to contact my bank. I have a low-limit card that I use for porn only so when I need to ask a question about a strange charge that means the other person on the end of the line likely knows that I'm a pervert. But you know what? I don't care any more. Maybe that's just a factor of getting older.

But to the original question, I think that paying for porn does have real value. As a collector, I like knowing that I'm supporting growth of porn as a hobby. Yeah, I know most people wouldn't agree with porn being a hobby. I do think how I approach porn is different from a guy who wakes up horny, selects a video on a Tube site and has a wank.

But maybe I'm just rationalizing here...

There are various ways to pay for porn, and a lot of people who claim not to pay for porn are paying for porn. For instance, people who populate pirate and file-sharing sites. Those files aren't free to download - at least not with any kind of speed - so a lot of people who wouldn't give their money to companies that produce porn are instead giving their money to companies that charge to easily download pirated and illegally shared porn. Then there's the cost of storage for downloaded porn. While portable hard drives and other storage devices have gone down in price significantly, they still have cost, as well as the internet providers and the computer manufacturers. Put it all together and the whole "I don't pay for porn" thing is a bunch of bull-shit. It's really a question of "who do you want your money to go to?"

The weirdest thing about the "I don't pay for porn" crowd is their astounding lack of understanding that it costs anything to produce porn, while they have a great appreciation for their own costs in compiling it and sharing it. You'll see people who run pirate and file-sharing forums jumping up and down to exhort members to join the download sites that pay them a kick-back (or claim that they will - "amazingly" they often fail to do so), posting about "don't you guys know what it costs to keep this site up and running? If you value this site, get your credit cards out!" Or people who post in various forums will cry incessantly if they're not being praised for their posts of pirated porn - "Don't you guys appreciate the effort and time that goes into what I do for you all?" - while NEVER exhorting those people to join the sites that actually produce the porn that they're posting.

It's a bizarre world.

I totally agree! I view porn as a hobby. My favorite activity is porn. Paying for porn allows more porn to be produced.
Plus the quality of the videos is almost always better than what you can find for free.
