Ethical Question If one joins a site that has stream-only video and one uses a video capture utility that came with your OS and one uses it to capture stream-only video for one's own personal enjoyment and does not disseminate that video on pirate sites, is one being ethical or unethical? Or is it all just a personal question. Personally, I think it's fine. I'm glad I found the tool. It works amazingly well, the captured video is glorious and the files are not very big.

In my opinion, using a video capture utility to download streaming-only video is unethical. The producers/distributors of the content have shared streaming content with you for a contracted price. You agreed to a contract that you would pay for access to streaming-only content, so using a video capture utility is breaking the contract to extract more from them than they were willing to share. Streaming-only video sucks. I understand that. But the ethical thing to do is to either abide by the terms of a contract you willingly entered into or to boycott the site hoping they will change their business practices. If the site said, "Please be aware - our videos are streaming only" before I paid, I might agree with the idea that I'm stealing something. That wasn't the case. I'm not interfering with their ability to just stream the videos. I'm just using a tool that I have to do what I want to do with it, which is to download it for my personal enjoyment, which is why I joined the site in the first place. So I'm going to keep doing so, quite happily and pretty guilt-free.

If you are going to do it anyway, why did you ask? Warning Will Robinson

If there's no mention of it being a streaming only site before you sign up, I would download everything I could and send a "properly worded" message to the webmaster. If you know going in that it's streaming only, it's theft. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

It's easy enough for a site to disable video capture software from working. I am sure that they'll eventually cotton on to what's happening and fix it. For now, the site has dropped the ball and so while people typically say "buyer beware," in this case, "seller beware" makes more sense.

Going to be honest here, when they indulge in these practices it's no wonder people opt out and just turn to piracy. The problem is rampant as it is and they add insult to injury engaging in these ridiculous behaviours. I personally think it's fine what you did on the basis that it didn't explicitly state whether you have access to downloads or if it's streaming only beforehand and that you are not sharing it with anyone else. I myself was in a debacle with TransAngels because of the very same problem, but I managed to get download access at a discounted price so I bit the bullet. But should it happen again with someone else I'll cancel the membership immediately without using it and get a refund. No downloads is a deal breaker for me.

The default for years was that a porn site would allow downloads. It seems like we're entering a time where the default is not to assume that a site has downloads unless they specifically say so. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

My thought exactly. I get that piracy is a serious issue, but if your only solution is to screw over your customers then you need to go back and find another solution. (But... another issue is that probably the average porn subscriber could be more of a porn viewer so streaming is fine. PU probably isn't a good reflection of the overall porn buying public because most of us here are more collectors than just viewers. For me that makes all the difference and is why downloading is essential for me.)

I have gone to sites that I discover are streaming unless you pay a premium. I have a choice. I can cancel and move on or pay the premium. Anything else is theft. Warning Will Robinson

I agree with the idea that's it's not the most ethical behavior since we know what we are buying ahead of time. I might have a different opinion if it were fraud/trickery. And for sure this is a trend I am NOT excited about

Sean Cody charged me $27.99 for a monthly membership which I thought included downloads. They did not mention anywhere about having to join another site for downloading their videos. Most sites charge $24.95 which includes downloading. I can understand if they charged a separate additional fee if you wanted to include downloading in your membership. Basically it cost me $43 for one month service including downloads. Now that is trickery on their part and I can see some wanting to use other means to download videos. "Dogs think people are Gods.
