Do you think people having more sex at home because of the recession? What about those singles? If they lost jobs. What will they do? MAXMIXDV.COM

I think William Shatner said it best in "Common People": You'll never live like common people You'll never do whatever common people do. You'll never fail like common people. You'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw because there's nothing else to do. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" People having more sex at home because of the recession? Probably. We always used to have sex at our favourite restaurant. I'd advise you to give their Hollandaise sauce a miss if I were you.

Hell, people don't have homes any more. Public sex is all we got left! Now, if I can just find some babe willing to throw down in the cheeseburger wrappers in that bin behind McDonalds ....

Most actors have a great self love, but William Shatner takes it to the extremes. The greatest love of all is his self-love. Does he masturbate? Every time he opens his mouth, I think he's wrapping it around his penis. I doubt the recession has changed his opinion or his self-worth. From IMDB.com: "At first, Shatner believed that as the star of "Star Trek" (1966), he was supposed to "outshine" the rest of the actors. He said later he came to appreciate the merits of an ensemble cast, and each member's contribution, working on the show." Is that supposed to be humility, recognizing that cast members besides himself might be making a contribution to a show that he is in? A personal quote from James Doohan, who played Scotty on the original Star Trek: "I like Captain Kirk, but I can't say that I'm very fond of Bill Shatner."

After Star Trek and before the Star Trek Convention phenomenon, Shatner spent some time (as many actors do) living in his car. Residual checks were miniscule and acting jobs were not available to the "typecast" actor. The Trekie phenomena and the convention money saved his ass. I like Shatner because he now realizes the pomposity of his own persona and can make fun of himself on the camera. He's clever enough to play the fool and play it well. Jay G

Yes, Shatner is over the top and tongue in cheek about it. Take those Priceline ads, for instance. Shatner parodies himself, and Priceline has an endorser that people find interesting. Funny who how much "layering" there is in those ads. He's also interesting in his own right yet knows when to get out of his own way. I thought his interview of Jenna Jameson on "Shatner's Raw Nerve" was great. Both of them are truly interesting people. I liked Toadsith's post of the Shatner quote. It sums up the attitude of people who strive to live "larger" than the rest of us. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Of course. Depression, recession, war ect. always provide closer relationship between man and wife, between lovers ect. AND that includes SEX - for one good reason: What's left to do. No money for this and that - a bad trip for everything we know in that almost religous freedom money provides in this western world. I'm certainly WITH that freedom and look forward to better times for all good people in the free world. A rather good exampel is the tremendous growth of children born during and just after the World War II in western Europe. In little old Denmark too we have a vast population born in the period from 1942/43 til 1948. The same goes for some other west-european countries - do not know about the eastern parts, since the criminal in charge of The Third Reich tried to kill them all - and since then (till 1989) the poor folks were behind the iron curtain. BTW: THAT situation ALSO had to provide more sex. What else could they do in their free time? Oh, just forgot - this is a US-based site: But apart from the freedom thing - not having money to party ect. could sure do the thing about enjoying life (and sex) at home, too. Best to all PUs in the US and let's hope for a time to party again - soon.... Denner "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on May 09, 2009, 07:35am

I agree - Shatner's very entertaining - I loved him in Boston Legal. The best interview I ever saw with him was by Henry Rollins, who is a friend of Shatner's. Apparently Shatner has an old-fashioned weekly salon, where he invites people from different branches of the arts to get together and enjoy each other. In that Rollins interview, I learned about this early Shatner flick: http://www.amazon.com/Intruder-40th-Anni...241882492&sr=1-3 A Roger Corman film about White Supremacy shot on location in Missouri in 1962 - the entire cast & crew put their lives on the line to make this movie - ya gotta love that.

Well, thanks to the greedy and irresponsible powers that be, we've been fucked ... so we might as well try to fuck our way back to prosperity! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Btw, as an aside since I have accidentally veered this thread onto a Shatner tangent, I just wanted to point out that the song that is from the album "Has Been" which was produced and scored by Ben Folds. I wouldn't recommend Shatner's earlier spoken word efforts, but this one is actually quite excellent. I think that Ben Folds is much of the reason, but many other people also contributed, notably the previously mentioned Henry Rollins. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" I saw a TV show ages ago with Bill Shatner narrating. It was about UFOs and ancient civilizations and pretty interesting it was too. www.rockchicksandbikerbabes.co.uk
