I've always wondered ....

.. if there are others like me. I have about 2 TB of Porn on three external drives and must admit with great embarrassment that I have watched less than a third of the material. I will have a long job of weeding out the more mediocre (in retrospect) or outdated files ahead of me.

I was reminded of this by the statement our friend artnoir made in his review of Nubiles today when he wrote:

"Lots of new models and it looked promising. Had a night of downloading and came to the conclusion that it was more exciting to download than to watch." (Copyright artnoir)

I sometimes think that most of the fun is in chasing down new material and then downloading it rather than in the actual watching of it because bottom line is there are really only so many ways to do Porn. Does anyone else prefer the hunt to the actual kill, I wonder? I know I've seen this mentioned some time ago but can't remember the thread.

Can't be sure but you may recall seeing it in several past poll questions ...

Do you spend more time downloading, sorting, surfing porn than actually watch it?

There seems to be a common thread that connects many of us on this site and it's the desire to find that elusive scene or that special model. I know I'm always thrilled when I find something new. I may be a little different than some because I don't download everything I find. I prefer to pick and choose what I know I'll watch. I do sometime download something that I wanted to watch and then lose it in one of my files but that's rare. Long live the Brown Coats.

There's a lot of porn that I downloaded onto my PC that I've never bothered to view. I would love to delete the inferior material. But I shudder to think of all the time it would take to look through the porn files to select what I really want to keep. It just seems easier to buy new external hard drives and fill them up with still more porn.

Not only have I downloaded and saved a couple storage devices worth of stuff off my computer, as well as backing it up on discs.... but I recently threw away over a couple hundred VHS and Beta cassette tapes that I'd collected over a good many years (many were classics --a collectors dream). Why discard them? because apart from taking up too much space to keep them out of sight, and having them become so worthless the adult video stores wouldn't accept them for(free).....

Will I ever watch any of the multitude of stuff now in my collection? ...likely little if any.

I've come to the realization it's not saving all this stuff off my computer that's important, it's clearly the kick I get from doing it.

Don't worry, you're not alone, messmer. I think I spend way too much time downloading--or at least my computer spends too much time downloading--rather than spending the same amount of time actually watching this filthy shit. What's even worse is that I too don't watch all of it either! Just gigs and gigs of data just going to waste...

...Or waiting for that special day when the Internet fails, the Puritans regain power, and modern civilization collapses into an apocalypse and everyone spends their remaining days fighting for bits of food, water, shelter and of course fuel, a la Road Warrior (to run your computer and porn-filled hard drives). Call me crazy but I think the majority of today's American politicians are moronic prudes who think the greatest threats to 'freedom' are homosexuality, atheism, science, and of course evil, evil, filthy porn.

But I think I am ahead of these birdbrains by a couple of steps because not only do I have a lot of porn, but a lot of porn that I have yet to even watch, thus more reason to protect it with my post-apocalyptic life. So even when they start blacklisting sites and then outlaw all porn I'll have tons of videos and photosets to 'fall back' on. But knowing my luck I'll fall asleep watching some video instead of pulling guard duty and a bunch of armed post-apocalyptic teabaggers will overrun my porn shelter, destroy my hard drives (in front of my own eyes, no less), and then hang me for 'obscenity'!

So yes, for now I prefer the hunt to the kill. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Hi Khan, I know you (your staff) had made me aware of previous polls but I really want to get an in depth answer from some of our present members on how they feel about the subject. I have all this material on my externals, material I have never seen in its entirety, while, at the same time, I am desperately hunting for new oysters (sites) that might contain that elusive pearl. Doesn't make sense and makes me feel like a pack rat and it is comforting to know that I have company! Edited on May 15, 2010, 08:57am

Actually I am the same as you when it comes to downloading. I don't do it indiscriminately but only pick scenes / picture sets that really appeal to me. But instead of watching the most recent download as you mostly seem to do I put it into storage for now and go off hunting for that next gem. Trouble is, opposed to you, I don't lose the file rarely I lose it regularly!

It's overwhelming isn't it? Once in a while I make an effort and start with file one on external drive one but then I contemplate the other 2 TB to go, get impatient, go on-line and download some more!

LOL. I don't have that apocalyptic a view (not that it couldn't happen) but only yesterday when the subject of ISP imposed usage limits came up I was thinking that I would actually cancel my internet connection, if my ISP tried to limit me, because I use it mostly for porn and would still have a couple of years' supply of porn to look at. I would miss the hunt, though!!

I am sure this is something I touched on last year or the year before. The big collectors can't possibly get around to seeing everything that is in their collection. As a hoarder myself I decided I had to be totally ruthless. It was Badandy and Khan who put me on to the external drive, which is so valuable. But I decided I must be honest. If I look at a downloaded clip and I am never going to watch it again, then it has to be deleted.

There is the feeling about what am I going to do if suddenly porn gets a world wide ban for all time, then I will regret deleting stuff. I try to fight that. Mostly I download, watch, and then most of it I delete. I have still nearly filled one 250gb external drive though. I also have a backup with identical material on. Have one more 320gb which has a little space used.

I basically agree with what everyone has says. It's the search for new stuff. Once you download it and have it you almost lose interest, because then you are looking for something else. That is very much the male mentality.

I have been slow joining new sites, because there is no point joining, if you have just downloaded months of viewing from a site where you have been a member, and not watched it. If you're going to just store it and not watch it, you may as well not join in the first place. So I decide if I join a site it better be a site where I am going to genuinely want to watch the material, otherwise it's a waste of money. So I join the occasional one, download, watch, and delete, with the prime cuts going to storage. 90 per cent at least, gets deleted. 10 per cent is material that I consider to be exceptional, so I hate to part with it.

Like Graymane I have a ton (literally) of old porn videos from the 80's ownwards. Just hate to get rid of them, even though I'll never watch them again. Strange the things you get sentimental about.

Even though it is better quality generally to download, I have solved some hoarding problems by simply streaming a lot of stuff instead of downloading.

But yes the act of just downloading stuff from sites is fun. Only those who do it can explain why it's fun. Seems silly but I know what you all mean. Edited on May 15, 2010, 05:37pm

After reading this thread, I have to admit that collecting it might be 90% of the fun for me. I have enough porn to last me for years, but that first moment inside the members area after joining and then staying up going through and downloading new stuff is very exciting.

Maybe you should start the deletion of porn files with my collection, since I seem to have a much smaller stash than you do, so it wouldn't take as long.

On the other hand, since our tastes are different, you would probably delete almost everything I have. So I guess I need a different solution to my over-sized porn collection.

But if you send me your stash for evaluation, I would probably be able to delete almost everything you have. And then you could start fresh.

Wouldn't that be a relief for you?

I'm thinking that collecting porn has twisted our brains. Who would have thought that downloading porn, trying to find the prime stuff, would be better than actually watching the material? We certainly spend more time chasing after the good stuff than watching it.

On the other hand, watching the material is only part of the process/experience. There have been studies on this, I'm sure.

But the pack rat mentality seems widespread for the PU members. Edited on May 15, 2010, 09:25pm

I think it is really the same for any avid collector of anything.

The search & then acquisition is the real appeal.
Sure getting a prize is nice, but then you want that rush of endorphins again.
Once you have it you want something else.

I think you nailed it, Cap'n. Greener grass, or the one that got away is always the biggest, best, what you really wanted to catch. Human nature. I'll try to be satisfied with whatever comes my way, as long as I think it's nice quality. Less frustrating that way.

Yeah, I think that way too...

There is nearly always that little voice that keeps saying.

'Go on...Keep looking...More!......More!'.....

...but if the whole internerd collapsed tomorrow.

I probably have two lifetimes worth of material stored to keep me going.

With all the sites I have joined and reviewed, I have only 1TB of storage. I easily get tired of old porn and keep little. The hunt is fun, but I am very fussy about what I keep.

I have 4 TB external drives. I only have like 200 GB on the fourth drive left. The other week I actually went through my old stuff to see what I can delete so I would not have to buy a new drive soon when this fourth one gets full. However, to no avail, I could not delete anything! sigh. I mean I download everything off a site but never watch or look at all of it. While it's all organized as it get downloaded, I probably have at least 1 TB of stuff that I 'thought' I would care less about. I know I will probably never look at it but I have the strange urge that I cannot delete it. My mind goes....dude, you spent good money to get this. Then I start thinking, like Twistys materal (which I downloaded the whole site from one month membership a few months ago) that like I paid 2 cents for each file lol...yet I could not get myself to delete it. I think I may just have to get wasted tonight and delete stuff then. I'll probably regret it but at least I can empty the recycling bin Sexted From My iPad

For the first time I have stuff that I haven't looked at since I downloaded over a year ago, however that's mostly because I've been lazy and haven't sorted it and put it into the regular rotation (bench players have to be vetted before making it into prime time). I've become rather ruthless about sorting my old stuff. I can usually tell when I'm in a good sorting mood for cleaning out my old crap because I find myself deleting a lot of so-so stuff.

Also, why keep it if you aren't going to watch it? I'm sure if Badandy started to watch a few vids every day he could probably go well into his senior years before seeing a repeat ... and by then his brain will be shot and think it's all new anyways We all like to preach about the golden age of porn coming to an end and the need to stock up the reserves in case porn Armageddon comes. But at some point, at least for me, there is such a thing as too much. Like most everyone else, I enjoy searching for the next delectable download but I don't spend as much time doing it any more since I know is always going to be something new to find. For me, if you aren't going to enjoy the fruits of your labor you've just become a slave to the labor itself at which point you either need a raise (which I'm not giving myself ... at least literally) or reset your priorities.

Well, I am making a start when it comes to changing my ways. For the past two days I've been deleting one file after the other. Strange, at one time they seemed so hot (at least the sample first five minutes) and eminently keepable to be viewed in full, at leisure, at a later time (see subject of post) but now they are small and grainy and certainly have no business on my hard drive.

It would be different if I had collected by model, then I would be tempted to keep everything of hers, but my job is being made easier by the fact that I don't collect that way so if better quality videos and pictures have come along in the meantime I can go to the old and eliminate without compunction. It's going to be a long job, though even if I'm not badandy!

I'm sort of anal with my video collection. I always watch all my videos before I add the files to my permanent library. (At least a skim-through viewing of the video.) If it's not the first time I've been to the site I'll usually go through all the old material from that site and weed out videos that are low quality or I'm bored with before I mix in the freshly downloaded files.

I do enjoy the thrill of the chase and going for the latest and greatest but I also enjoy reviewing my old stuff while I'm purging and organizing.

That's probably how all normal people would do it, goldfish. Problem is I'm not normal.

I, too, will review my old stuff while purging but no matter how enticing the clip or picture set may be, if it is the size of a postage stamp when viewed with a monitor with a much higher resolution then the pleasure in viewing it is gone. Should see some of my 800 x 600 px pictures .. horrible. That's where I am anal: if it isn't crisp and clear it goes!

PS. Haven't quite figured out yet how to use that quote business properly, so it looks a bit messed up. Edited by Staff on May 20, 2010, 05:04am

Aren't we sort of hunter-gatherers by nature? Squirrel reminded me of that character from the movie Ice Age, Scrat, who has this enormous stockpile of acorns. He knows he can't possibly eat that many acorns in his little varmint life.

I collect pictures, softcore primarily, and I have periods when instead of spending money on a paysite I surf TGPs and nick pics from there. I end up with a lot of repeats but it's still fun and it's a great way to see what the new sites have to offer.

I also collect books (not porn: poetry, novels, philosophy mostly). I have piles of them all around the house. Many of them haven't been opened. I just like to have them around. My bathroom looks like a lending library.

My is that the hunt is definitely more exciting than the feast that comes afterwards. There doesn't even have to be a feast. It's just nice to know I can have one if and when I want it. Ah, another book collector. I gave away 32 large boxes of books when we had to move from a house to a comparatively tiny two bedroom apartment. The only thing that mitigated the pain was the fact that the acid used in most paper had started to turn the pages of my older books yellow and brittle.

P.S. Before I discovered the joy of subscribing to pay sites I used to collect a lot of pictures through those TGP sites but it was a long and arduous process because so many times I was redirected to another TGP site (rather than to a limited sample set of pictures) which in turn redirected me to a third one and so on and so on. So I haven't been back lately.

In my experience the vast majority of TGP's redirect to other TGP's, which redirect....ad nauseum. It's hard finding good ones, but there are quite a few. Since this ain't the place for that, I won't mention any of them.

TGP surfing is also an excellent way to get a virus, so in good conscience I actually wouldn't recommend it; it's just that ten years experience makes it easier for me to find what I want in relative safety. TGP surfing is also an excellent way to get a virus, so in good conscience I actually wouldn't recommend it; it's just that ten years experience makes it easier for me to find what I want in relative safety.

I haven't been back to a TGP site since 2007 because of the drawbacks and dangers you mentioned. I do visit some of the ATK promotional sites at times because they're not sneaky and freely give you a few samples of their latest updates therefore making the "should I or shouldn't I rejoin" a bit easier.

BTW, replace the "arduous" in my original post with "tedious!" I just noticed the mistake.

I don't see any mistake. "Tedious" works, but so does "arduous". Trying to to build a photo or video collection by searching through TGP sites takes a huge amount of time and effort. Paysites cost dollars, but the quality is so much better, and it's so much easier.

Yes, I completely agree with you, that's why I haven't been back to TGP sites since '07. As to my mistake, now I'm really embarrassed. Blame encroaching old age or the fact that English is my second language. Arduous is indeed okay, I got it mixed up with "ardent" in my mind!

I am the opposite of you all; I hate downloading and collecting and watched most of my stuff probably dozens of times.
I really want new stuff, but I find it just too time consuming to download and search.

Well, you are making the most of what you got, Colm. That's certainly a good thing. I could save myself a lot of money for sites and hard drives that way!
