Any new information on the replacement TBP/PU site rollout?

I don?t want to step on anyone?s toes here (like Rick?s) but has there been any new information on the sites that TBP and PU will become? Things seem to be picking up around here after a serious drop when the raffle was ended. I?m looking forward to seeing the new sites and hope that all of us regulars show up there too. I know I?ll move to the new sites when they?re up. Edited by Staff on Dec 13, 2013, 02:49pm

Hi rearadmiral... Khan gave me a heads up about this thread!

We're working harder than ever... and honestly the new site (which we're branding simply as myporn.com) is coming along great. There's 3 of us working on it now. We brought on a new programmer to help, he's been awesome. As with all such development, there's always unforeseen issues. No matter how many projects I create, forecasting launch/release dates is not something I've ever been good at. lol I should have learned my lesson by now.

I'd say the next thing I'll be releasing is the coming soon page with a tour of myporn.com and invite signup. This "should" be available in about a month. Active pornusers won't have to worry about signing up. They'll be the first group to get access, ahead of such invites.

I've decided it's best to wait to release any other designs publicly until then. It's just not worth stirring up irrelevant debates or conspiracy's. I just can't wait to show everyone tho! The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

Man, in the other thread on this topic I think I wagered three of my badges that it'd be going by the New Year. Looks like I'm about the get demoted in the PU army

One thing I've been thinking about and would put out there as a request for the new site(s) is the possibility of having a "like" button. Yeah, I know it's waaaay overdone on social media but sometimes I read a review or comment or forum posting and don't really have anything to add but I'd like to give the author a tip of the hat for their effort without writing a response. Maybe I'm just being lazy but it might generate more interest in the new sites if people can at least get some positive feedback even if people aren't taking the time to write responses. My guess is that I'm not alone in taking this position. Anyway, just a request.

Some big changes are coming: https://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_thr...d.html?threadid=3676

At first there was a mixed reaction and some regulars bailed out, but the owners of TBP have justified the need to revamp their site (and PU too). The raffle ended and that changed the dynamic a lot but the site seems to be recovering and many of us are looking forward to seeing (and participating on) the new sites.

Awwwwwe wittyguy, I appreciate the faith buddy. The extra time will be worth it. It's important we get it right from the beginning. This is a much larger beast than I realized initially and requires advanced preparation. Lots of new territory for us, with little room for error.

Funny u mentioned "likes"... we'll have likes and dislikes for just about everything u can imagine. Forum posts, reviews, galleries, movies, sites, profiles, bargains, etc. Not only that, but you'll be able to add comments along with your likes/dislikes if u wish. Social is a big part of myporn.com, but instead of following your buddies like on facebook, your following your favorites porn sites.

So imagine a world where u can follow your favorite sites (and users as well) and ignore the ones u simply have no interest in. You'll log-in to myporn.com on the daily and view all the new content (and I mean a huge variety of content, not just review) from those sites you've followed. Sites that you've chosen to ignore, you'll never see a listing of any sort ever again It goes way beyond this... no company has ever approached the delivery of free movies and galleries like we're about to. Complete custom user interface that pay-sites will want to adopt for their own sites. It's all free, and there won't be a single ad to be found (all money we make will be generated exactly how we do today, from referred sales).

With that said, I can't stress enough about how much I appreciate those that have stayed loyal and kept our current sites alive. You all helped us even get this far, and we won't ever take that for granted. The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

Thanks for taking the time to give us some new information Rick. I don't fully understand how the new site will work but it does sound interesting and innovative and I'm looking forward to seeing it when it gets rolled out.

It sounds like what you'll be releasing will be unique, but please don't give up on the user-generated side of the house. I realize that things have slowed a bit but I'm sure the new sites will exceed PU. While the new features will make the site better for users, having the member-generated content adds a lot of value too. I rely on the stats and opinions from you and your staff but you guys can't address every little issue in a site review so that's where the members come in. That's a feature that is unique too (as far as I know) so please add the user-driven "Porn Verdict" as soon after the main site as you can.

Again, thanks for all your effort. Many of us have your back and are wishing you success beyond your dreams.

Your very kind sir.

To give you some more good news... "porn verdict" (the new user reviews) which will be a very important piece of myporn.com, will be released with everything at the same time. We're not releasing anything in parts, we're releasing the entire package from the start. Everything interacts with each other seemlessly.

myporn.com will be primarily driven by the community. There's a never-ending amount of content, data and reviews from our staff, but the main engine is based on users building an identity/reputation and collaborating. Whether it's reviews, sharing your favorites on your wall, voting (likes/dislikes), flagging abuse/errors. Our new forums will be dramatically improved, and producers/site owners will be far more interactive and accessible.

I get excited talking about it, and more exciting working on it. The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

One question that's been bugging me since the new site was first announced: will sites/names still autolink? I find it a kind of annoying feature of the current Porn Users that you can't write a name like Nina Hartley, and not keep it plain text, like Nina Hartley, without the "Do not link" feature currently in place.

Nothing gets the crow into the steam cooker like a new web site announcement. (Take, for example, the US gov't site for health insurance.) All I can say is that I'm not surprised by the delay of myporn.com AND that it is completely understandable and forgivable.

I actually wonder which is more difficult between a movie production and a web site. Of course, there are movies and then there are movies, and the same goes for web sites. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

1. User interface is the main thing. You'll have to take my word for now.

2. Ability to like/dislike threads/replies.

3. Ability to bookmark messages (in long threads for example) and access those bookmarks anytime.

4. Insert/upload photos into your posts directly from your computer. No longer have to link from another server.

5. Adjust font size.

6. There will be new forums (user forum and industry forum), and an individual forum setup for each site.

7. Ignore feature... allows you to ignore threads or users completely.

8. Polls feature... create your own polls.

9. Flag feature.. flag posts u think are abusive or against the nature of the community.

10. MUCH larger audience, the most important thing to any thriving community.

Just make it easy to navigate. I can't tell you how many times a website I have been a part that have made changes and I find myself going from one menu to another trying to find what I'm looking for. Warning Will Robinson

I know a new interface can often be tricky and even a little frustrating sometimes.

I'm sure Rick will make it as easy as possible to figure out. But just in case you run into problems, remember I'll be around to help you figure out how to use all the new bells and whistles. So never hesitate to ask. If it's something I don't know (and that's a real possibility in the beginning) I'll be happy to ask around until I can find you and answer. You guys are welcome and to answer your question rearadmiral as far anonymity... it's just as anonymous as PU has ever been. Keeping a civil community it a huge priority. We've learned a lot while maintaining our grounds here, and we'll applying what we've learned at myporn.com. Khan and I will be sure our technology and moderation tools are far more effective than what we have now. It'll be a bigger challenge assuming a much larger audience, but we'll ready for it. It looks like I stumbled across this site just in time, or maybe a tad early, haha. The new site looks fantastic. One question... will all reviews posted now be included on the new site?

This was addressed in the original thread. Here's the link to it: https://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_thr...d.html?threadid=3676

I think I'm correct in saying that due to the new format the older reviews will not be automatically added to the new site but that the old reviews will still be accessible through a link. I can understand that reformatting all the old reviews would be a daunting task so it is a good compromise to link to them. The user reviews provide a lot of valuable information.

One option that I haven't heard mentioned is whether users will be allowed to reformat some of their own older reviews and post them on the new site. I could see that this could work for newer reviews where the information is likely to be current and accurate, and it would allow the new site to get an early boost.

Welcome to Pornusers. This is a great site and while it is a bit quiet here these days we're all waiting patiently for the new site when things will pick up and really start to grow again. If you read other porn forums you'll likely find this one is a lot more civilized.

I was thinking the same thing, but I've still been adding them. I'm really hoping that the staff will allow newer PU reviews (maybe those posted in the past six months? year?) to be rewritten for the new site. It would be a win/win for the member and the new site. I've got my fingers crossed...

Since I'm new, I've continued to review. I'm keeping a copy of the reviews in the event they don't get reposted on the new site.

Can we get a little insight from corporate HQ what is recommended?

Yo, Rick ..... (be aware this question is coming from a long-time user but still a computer neophyte)

jberry recently posted a piece on the unpredictability of harddrives.
Are you, or is it on the table, or just completely gonna be a no-no: see below .....
Have you thought of having a feature we can use to back up our data rather than continuingly worrying about our drives "crashing?"
I know we have external drives but I figure they're vulnerable to all kinds of attacks that can still corrupt its content.

Hey guys, sorry about the delay in responding... just getting settled in again after a few days off.

We'll definitely allow for reviews to be re-posted and may have a feature setup to make it possible to easily import reviews written within X months. No matter what any reviews you post today hold value now and into the future. The main reason we can't automatically import them is because the review structure is slightly different. However, it shouldn't take much work to manually import it.

Graymane, regarding the backup of data. We can certainly give continued access to all the reviews and forum data for as long as it's desired. Even if Pornusers or TBP becomes obsolete, keeping the site available for these purposes shouldn't be an issue. We'll work with everyone to make sure such data is preserved for as long as needed.

I'll continue to monitor this thread if there are any other questions, thanks guys. The Best Porn - Ultimate Consumer Guide to Porn

There was some question about what exactly you're asking.

If you're talking about some sort of cloud-like storage where you can upload your stash, then sorry but we have no plans to go into anything like that in the foreseeable future.

You might do some searches on cloud storage services. I'm not personally familiar with them but I'm told they exists. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Rick - thanks for giving a definite answer on this issue. I really think this will help the new site grow more quickly and will also allow long-term members to feel like they're contributing to the new site's success. I think it will be a win-win for the site and the members. I suspect the biggest risk will be in setting a cut-off date that will protect stale-dated reviews to be uploaded as new. It's your call, of course, but I'd set the limit at six months.

One final thing, and again this is just my opinion, but I wouldn't put the effort into making a feature to make it easy to import reviews. Not that this wouldn't be nice to have, but if it slows down development on other more important stuff then it comes at too high a cost. Also, the feature would cease to have any use after any eligible reviews were converted since once the new user-generated site is up and running I assume that all new reviews will go there.

Again, thanks for keeping us in the loop. I really appreciate it and I'm sure that many others do too.

I wrote all my reviews in .txt files, and copied them onto the site. I kept the originals - I could just update them a bit and repost if they can't be migrated.

Smart move. I've written all mine in Word for the past few years. I didn't plan of having to migrating them but I did that because I usually write, rewrite and edit them over a few days. It looks like that may have paid off.
