Flash Gordon getting a 4K restored blu-ray edition for the UK. The new version will not be available in the US, if at all, until a later date. The new version should be watched for Ornella Muti, the gorgeous babe who should have inherited her father's empire of the known universe. And if Muti can overcome her wimpy tendencies, and assume the title of Merciless Empress of the Universe, she can have Flash Gordon, Prince Barin and all her enemies put into the afterburner, where their vaporized flesh can power her drive to divine levels of sex. Based on the comic strip of the same name by Alex Raymond, the movie directed by Mike Hodges, starring Sam J. Jones, and featuring an epic soundtrack from the rock band Queen was a bit of a box office flop back in 1980 that attempted to capitalize on the popularity of sci-fi in the wake of the success of Star Wars. But now the movie is a cult classic, and it’s getting a 4K restoration that will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD this summer. Melody Anderson, Ornella Muti, Max Von Sydow, Topol, Timothy Dalton, Mariangela Melato and Brian Blessed never looked so good in this gloriously cheesy flick. On top of the 4K restoration of the movie, there will be a slew of special features available, as well as some cool collectible items if you buy the five-disc collector’s edition. It was campy but it's still a great movie. You had so many impressive actors in that movie not least of which the great Max Von Sydow who was an amazing Ming the Merciless. I have always wanted to see someone remake that movie or a series. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

Get the original Buster Crabbe serials made in the 30's. Tiny silver ships with sparklers sputtering out the exhaust ports and you can easily see the strings as the ships bob up and down. It is a hoot. Warning Will Robinson | |

^I've seen my share of those as well as Buck Rodgers in the 25th century but they are mostly fun to watch for nostalgia and less for anything else. That said those shows influenced many of the people who went on to make some truly epic sci/fi content. Long live the Brown Coats. | |
