Anyone seen the new Star Trek Beyond? I saw it this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Anyone else? I think Chris Pine makes a really great Kirk, and Simon Pegg as Scotty is a real gem.

I'm waiting for the new Jason Bourne to come out. Only have a limited amount of dollars, so I'm trying to spend them wisely. I used to be a Star Trek fan, back when it was in its original run on TV (back in the 1960s?). But I never got into the Star Trek movies. The thrill had gone. LOL.

I might see the new Wonder Woman in 2017. That has Chris Pine as Wonder Woman's sidekick. Wonder Woman reminds me of Captain America, with the way she uses her shield.

Boy, have comics (and movies) changed. I just read that Brie Larson has been cast as Captain Marvel, a movie that is scheduled for 2019. The Captain Marvel that I read as a kid was a man. But Brie Larson (who recently won an Oscar) is a woman. Will she be playing a man in the forthcoming movie? No, Captain Marvel is now a woman super-hero.

There are two Captain Marvels: One from the DC world and the other from Marvel comics (the original publishers allowed the Captain Marvel name to lapse into public domain so Marvel Comics grabbed it). The Marvel version is now female but DC's is still Billy Batson (although he is now called Shazam). As for the Star Trek Movie, I saw the second one and liked some of it but not the use of Khan as a character. Ricardo Montalban played him so good as a man who suffered great loss. Benedict Cumberbatch just added thick layers of ham to his performance. I like ham, but that was too much for me. I will check out the third one as long as they ditched the Uhura/Spock romance from the second one. WTF was that about? "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016) Dogs have masters; Cats have staff.

I was somewhat excited to hear that they wanted to shoot a Wonder Woman movie. For one thing she is an interesting character and she also happens to be a woman. Need I say that female superhero's are pretty rare on the big screen. If that was where the story ended than maybe I would still be excited but here's why I am dreading the release of this film. 1-Warner Brother is involved and their track record with superhorse movies is beyond bad. It's catastrophic. 2-Produced by Zack Snyder, his wife, Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Just take a look at the body of their work and you'll see that it's not very encouraging. 3-The story is primarily Zack Snyder baby which means it's going to be bad. 4-The screenplay is by two TV guys so no big screen experience. 5-The director is a woman so that's a plus but she has never worked on such a huge scale movie set and her credits are rather quite short. 6-The movie appears to be set in and around WWI so that means a lot of green screen use to replicate the look of that era. 7-The movie is coming out in the wrong order since we have already been introduced to WW in Bat VS Sup and I believe that primary filming is done for Justice League so at this point do we really need to know her origin story. I could probably go on but I think I've made my point. Warner looked at the success Disney had with their Marvel franchises and they decided that they could do the same using their DC brand. Obviously they have had amazing success with their Batman franchise you can't build a franchise using only one character. We have already had 8 Batman movies in the last 27 years played by five different actors. To make matters worse. Batman has for the most part always been in stand alone films so no way to create an ark that will bridge one film with another. I know that's what B v S tried to do but they failed miserably since only Superman already had an origin story and they killed off his character at the end of the film. Personally I think the general public is getting tired of seeing the same superhero's on screen. Of course time will tell if I'm right or I'm in left field. Long live the Brown Coats.

Game of Thrones Will End After Season 8, HBO Confirms By Maria Mercedes Lara @maria_mercedes 07/30/2016 AT 09:45 PM EDT The end of Game of Thrones is coming. HBO's programming president Casey Bloys confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the hit fantasy series would end after season 8. The news may not come as a huge surprise to GOT fans as showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss had previously stated that they wanted the series to end after its eight season. "Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do," Bloys said at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday. "Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show." However, while Benioff and Weiss had previously said the eight season would only consist of six episodes, Bloys said the exact number of episodes in the final season has not yet been determined. As for a GOT spinoff, Bloys said he had talked about the possibility with Benioff and Weiss but that it would have to "make sense creatively" and that the showrunners couldn't really plan for it as they prepare to begin production on season 7. The seventh season of GOT is expected to premiere in summer 2017 on HBO.

OFF TOPIC: Floyd Mayweather Drops $50k On Car Repairs 7/31/2016 12:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF EXCLUSIVE There's only one thing crazier than spending $1.5 million on a Bugatti Veyron ... spending $50k just to get the damn thing fixed ... but that's exactly what Floyd Mayweather just did. We spoke to Obi Okeke from DoctorBugatti.com who tells us he just serviced Floyd's Bugatti ... and it came out to a little bit more than your annual trip to Pep Boys. Here's the breakdown ... 4 2015 Bugatti tires $33k ... basic service (oil & fluid changes) $23k ... then to top it off a $3k detailing service where the damn Armor All must be made out of 24k gold. Final price tag was well over $50k. Wanna feel even LESS normal? Obi says he's had to start AN ENTIRELY SEPARATE COMPANY to service Floyd's cars because he has to move them around for service so often. Just ... wow. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $33,000 for 4 tires. $23,000 for oil and fluid changes. Must be nice to have enough money to keep your car on the road.

Of course he would love to shoot 10 seasons but the last two would suck because they would have long run out of things to add to the story so we'd ne stuck at rehashing the same storyline. Of course what he forgets to mention the fact that the cost of shooting GoT is getting higher each year and that is why the last two seasons will likely be shorter than previous seasons. Long live the Brown Coats.

Suicide Squad is set to open this weekend. Expect strong opening, with a lot of pre-open ticket sales. I haven't seen the new Jason Bourne movie yet, but I'm thinking about it.

Amanda, let us know what you think of Suicide Squad. Even a short review would be helpful. Most of the professional reviews have been negative. But most fans seem to ignore the professional reviews. Enjoying a movie can be a very personal experience. Sometimes a review is helpful, other times, you wonder if the reviewer is freaking crazy.

Suicide Squad' Set for August Opening Record Despite Negative Reviews Suicide Squad is getting a massive start this weekend, with around $45 million on Friday. However, we don't know if this includes Amanda's ticket price, because, even though she wrote that she would be seeing the film, she has not reported back yet. Waiting to see if Amanda has seen the film, and her reaction to it if she did.

^I read somewhere that Suicide Squad has to make at least 750 millions$ at the box office for the studio to make a profit. One of the reason is that there were just so many problems during production that final production cost are so much more than the studio was counting on. I don't want to think of what will happen if they make anything less because Warner is already in financial trouble with B vs S that they need this movie to help them survive. Sadly I don't think that's going to happen because it appears that China has already said that they think the movie is too violent and they aren't going to release it. Add that although it broke box office take. There was a 41% drop day to day over the weekend and that isn't good when you consider that most movies have moderately to huge drops from one weekend to the next. I've read a bunch of reviews and from the very negative to the more positive and the consensus is that it's a bit messy but with some great performances by Margot Robbie and Will Smith. Long live the Brown Coats.

Suicide Squad' Shoots Down August Record with $135 Million Opening. I don't know how that plays out against what Pat read, that the studio needs $750 million box office to make a profit. But in the US, at least, the movie, in spite of poor reviews, is off to a big box office. And still waiting to hear from Amanda, if she is willing to give us a personal review.

I ended up seeing Suicide Squad on Saturday. I was really excited to see it, though I'm not a comics aficionado. I don't want to give anything away or deter anyone from seeing it, but I felt that the Joker and Harley Quinn characters were underused and that the script was on the weaker side. I just was expecting more. The acting is great, the effects are also terrific. Am I upset I spent the cash on it? No. Do I wish I was more blown away? Definitely.

^I read or listened to a multiple reviews and yours seems to be the general consensus. The problem facing Warner is that you aren't likely to go see it again in a theater, you aren't likely to tell your friends that it's a must see movie so word of mouth is going to do what the early bad reviews didn't do and deter future customers from seeing the movie. To compound the problem for Warner. You and most people who weren't blown away aren't won't want to buy the dvd/Bluray that is sure to come out before Christmas. P.S: Yes the Joker. You can add this to what is probably pissing off many fans. Until you saw the movie. The trailers pretty much made you think that the Joker is a key player in the movie but in effect he is in it for barely more than 10 minutes and interacts with no one other that Harley and worse those sequences could have been taken out of the movie and no one would have noticed. Long live the Brown Coats.

No recent movie has drawn me to go see it. The new Star Trek looks like a lot of flash. This seems to be the pattern I'm seeing since CGI vastly improved the special effects. It is a wonderful accomplishment, but it doesn't carry a movie. I guess I have seen to many films that rely on CGI that have no substance that I formed a bias towards them. Warning Will Robinson

Exactly! The plot wasn't really affected at all by him and I was surprised at his role in the film. And he's such a good character! Dead Shot was the main focus, and Will Smith is great, but the Joker is much more interesting... I mean, it's the Joker!

^Here's why I think they didn't go with the Joker as the main bad guy in SS. He's usually batman's nemesis and he's already been in two previous DC/Warner movies in the last 8 years. Couple with the fact that he and Harley Killed Robin so if anyone should go against him than it's Batman and it would have made it hard for Harley to be on the side of the good guys against the Joker. Of course that's my theory. The reality is probably that the people in charge are simply to Fracking stupid to have considered making the Joker the bad guy. That and it seems that audiences didn't particulary like Jared version of the Joker. Long live the Brown Coats.
