Coronavirus / COVID-19 and porn What are your thoughts on how the adult industry will be affected by the pandemic? Obviously most production is shut down now so we'll start to see updates dry up at some point. I've heard that the Mike Adriano sites, for example, have already stopped updating. It seems to me that small sites that update weekly will run out of updates at some point with their shooting schedules thrown off. Sites like Hookup Hotshot and Amateur Allure will likely be hit harder than Evil Angel, for example. But... on the other hand, will we, as porn buyers, see some better deals? I'll be less inclined to join a site knowing that there won't be updates for a while so will sites start offering us better deals to entice us to open our wallets? Any thoughts?

It would be nice to see better deals. But unless you're thinking about special discounts (which are usually linked to holidays, but can also be used with any event), I doubt that porn sites will, in general, being lowering their regular prices any time soon. Porn sites need the income or revenue to pay for site maintenance, salaries, new product, etc. Even if they run out of new product (e.g. updates), they still need income if they are to survive. Porn sites regularly go out of business for different reasons. I assume that lack of revenue is the main cause. I've seen a lot of good or fine sites disappear over the last few years. I hope not too many will go under because of the virus outbreak. But since a lot of porn production has stopped because of the virus, even more sites could go under. And I seriously doubt that Trump's trillion dollar bail-out package will be sending a lot of money to the porn industry. Even though the movie industry is asking for billions of dollars in aid.

Strip clubs, escorts, and other kinds of in-person sexual commerce are going to be even more affected. I saw that the NYC regulations (or maybe it was NY state, I'm not positive) specifically address sex workers, saying that if you had in-person dates, you should set up video dates instead - and I think that's where porn stars are going. The OnlyFans sites are becoming more important, I bet the cam sites are doing really well, AdultTime has announced that they are going to be doing cam shows, Evil Angel is also working at lining up cam shows. The smaller sites need to be coming up with something too - I'm sure anybody that has been doing this for any length of time has un-released scenes that they could go through - out-takes, bloopers, top 10 lists, re-released scenes with director commentary, etc. A big issue is that nobody knows how long this will really go on. In SF, they originally gave April 7 as the end of shelter-in-place, lots of smart people are saying that it will really take 10 weeks, which is going to drive a lot of people batty and ruin them financially. Some restaurants have done well in the switch to only to-go and delivery. A friend of mine has a nice restaurant in SF and was terrified, but his daily posts have been really optimistic based on the orders that they're getting for delivery. That works as long as the supply chain holds. That's the big question to me - how do we as a country take care of the trucking industry and the truckers. I see that InstaCart shoppers/grocery delivery people are going on strike on Monday until their demands are met.

A lot of us will spend less on porn sites. If you don't have a job, you cut back. I see small sites closing and big ones running cam shows and not updating. That is less money for Pornusers and less for a raffle. We just saw PU changing the raffle to save money. I would not at all be surprised to see the raffle end real soon. When the police get the virus in big numbers, we will see people breaking into stores to get food. Without doctors and nurses we will see the virus everywhere with no one to take care of us. I hope this does not happen, but who knows? Female and proud

I think some of the smaller porn sites are going to go under. I'm a member of PJ Girls and Adult Time right now. Adult Time probably has enough content to get through a while without impacting their release schedule much. But PJ Girls often shoots the video the same day it's released. They mentioned in a letter to members that it's becoming difficult to get models due to the coronavirus epidemic, and that they might have to cut back on release dates. It's a matter of scale and monetary reserves. A larger company will have more members and more money, so they might weather the storm easier. The small sites will not have the resources to weather it well. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."
