I still blame "Mad About You!"

That's how it all started, with Mad About You, way back in 1992. With Helen Hunt going to bed in a long cotton shirt, Paul Reiser in boxers and t-shirt!

Before that, women at least had the decency to want to look enticing to their men by putting on something silky, dab a bit of perfume behind their ear, give little signals etc. .. but along came that accursed show with cotton and little printed hearts and bears and bunnies, and things haven't been the same since!

No wonder it is basically one child per family now! Oh, for the good old days! Give me back my sixties, seventies and eighties!
Naw, I knew you wouldn't understand! Edited on Jul 25, 2012, 06:09pm

Hey - at least that's a big step from Rob and Laura Petrie and Lucy and Ricky having separate beds! Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

But the temptation to be in the same bed is greatly reduced, RB!

Maybe on your end - I always had a thing for Laura. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

They called those kind of shows situation comedies, my friend. The idea was to draw laughter .... hence the odd-ball underwear.

As I said in some other thread, I have grown fond of my girl's t-shirt and boxers look for bedtime, I think its cute. Plus, it makes the nights she dresses up all the more fun - a special treat.

I imagine this look long predated Mad About You, albiet I am too young to have experienced women in the decades you mention, I doubt it is a new thing for women to try a bit harder to be sexy at the beginning of a relationship and comfortable later. I'm sure there are plenty of women that make the same complaint about men - my shaving frequency seems to be inversely proportional to the length of my current relationship. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

lol - everyone I know around here seems to have at least 2 kids. I've got 3, 2 of my friends have 4 kids and 1 has 5. I'd got the impression that we were heading back into the trend for larger families. I thought it was because everything else is getting more expensive, having sex is cheap entertainment. Actually the joke is going to be on our kids and grandkids if we don't stop having babies and go with the one in one out philosophy in regards to population. It's like we're an infestation of humanity with no ability to use birth control to temper our sexual urges. While this train of thought is not a joke, I don't want to turn this thread into a rant about the short sightedness of humans. Just cause we can think and reason, doesn't mean it's rational or helping.

I now give up my right to hijack this thread. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.

Hey, guys, for those who took me too seriously, this was written tongue-in-cheek .. I was basically doing what I am always doing, except this time from a different angle: bemoaning the fact that so little erotic lingerie is featured anywhere! Apologies to Helen Hunt, I know she wasn't the first one to wear unappetizing cotton shirts.

^Mind you a wet cotton shirt on a braless Helen Hunt would be rather sexy. Of course that would never have happened on her network TV show back then but it wouldn't surprise me today and even less so if it was on a cable show. let me rephase that last one. It would definetely happen on a cable show but it wouldn't stop at just the wet shirt. You would get the topless shot, bottomless one and also a simulated softcore sex scene. Long live the Brown Coats.

^ Oh yeah, the mini-series Spartacus showed ample breasts including my all time female hero, Lucy Lawless, who at 40+ has outstanding tits. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.

Believe it or not, but there was a time in early film-making when censors wouldn't even allow their male and female stars to just set together on a bed at the same time.
Naturally, as a budding youth, that was a painful era when my hormones were raging and begging for some erotic, visual stimuli.
It was not to be
We were unfortunately relegated to undress a woman only with our imagination.
The guys growing up in the age of the internet ... jus' don't know how good they have it. .... I think!

We were born at the wrong time, graymane. Censors decided just about the time you and I were born that things were getting out of hand. Before this, even in Hollywood, just about anything went. Many of the most famous early female stars performed in movies that would be considered soft porn these days. I remember seeing one Tarzan movie, before Johnny Weissmueller (sp?), where Jane was swimming, and swinging from tree branch to tree branch, completely nude. It's a good thing we got a second chance with the Internet!

^I don't think guys growing up with the internet and cable TV really have it better than let's say guys growing up 30 or more years ago and the reason why I say that is because
guys today are innundated with so much wanton sexuality on a daily basis that they are getting de-sensitized to basic stuff like a scantily clad young woman. Long live the Brown Coats.

Excellent point, Pat. What can I say?
You got me on the ropes again, slugger.
Will somebody please throw in the towel?

You know, I'm sure glad to have you around, partner. Tis good to have a major player my age and whose thoughts are arcing on my wavelink.
And yes, some of those keen, cagey and bright producers and filmmakers found oodles of ways to get around the system. Tarzan's Jane wearing scant animal fur was a classic example. A lot of Hollywood gals wearing bathing suits comes to mind.
Oh, and lets not forget the old Sears catalogs ... with those smiling models posing in underwear and (gulp -- gird yourself, mess.....) LINGERIE!

the sixties broke allot of barriers and noticeably rape scenes were more graphic in movies as well as TV, and even pop westerns showed couples on a bed ( dressed) but hinted of possible coitus so the race was on. I think a lady in a long teeshirt and undies can be sexy, the seventy porn pulled that off nicely with natural breast and halter tops too.

Breath CT Breath lol, nothing like untammed bresticals in a outfit. I like 70's teddys too woo hoo. Since 2007

Okay, I go along with the teddies, CT but cannot agree when it comes to long cotton t-shirts. They kill my libido as surely as does pantyhose.

Well, there you are way ahead of me, graymane. We didn't get Sears or any other kind of catalog where I spent my formative years. I took the odd magazine home from our store if it featured a "Vargas Girl!" Remember those? They were hot, yet all they wore most of the time was a one piece, quite modest bathing suit.
