So, Mr./Ms. , Webmaster, tell us about your day? Running a porn site is not your conventional 9 to 5 job, I’m sure. And considering the interdependent relationship they/we/others are collectively involved in to keep each other’s back scratched, one going for his charge card for what they (Webmasters) are providing us, leaves me somewhat unapologetically inquiring (politely) as to what goes on in operating a Porn-Site . Contrary to actual reality, probably those like me who have the idea Site-owners/operators of porn, who wields the position of top banana, simply have a perpetual career in and of Shangri-La. A layman naturally assumes indulging in a business giving you rank and hobnobbing amongst the planet’s most prized, unattainable commodity (certainly for most men) is tantamount to having a genie as a roommate. So tell us, guys an’ gals…….what’s it like?  | |

I get asked this often and my brother thinks I have the coolest job in the world. Really it is like any other job. Before this I was in real estate law for 10 years. I had stress in that job just like I do in this one...it is just about different things. Today I spent most of my day picking pictures for the new calendars I am creating. The rest of my time was split between talking to my affiliates to make sure they had what they needed and trying to decide what my next DVD title was going to be. Don't get me wrong I love my job. I get to meet so many interesting people from all over the world. I still can not get over the fact the people like Vegas Ken, Stephen with AEBN and Trieu with Abby Winters want to meet with me. I still feel like a little kid in a candy store sometimes. Let's not forget the photographers like Marco Pallotti that make my heart putter when he calls me darlin'.  Or all of the gorgeous ladies that come into my office to say hi. Oh there are the conventions... how can I forget about them? At those you get to meet the big players in the industry and try to learn as much as you can from them in the limited time you have.We are always thinking about the future...what are guys/gals going to be looking for in 3 months or 6 months. I am always so focused on the future sometimes I forget to stop and smell the massage oil.  Sorry did not mean to write a novel. I hope this does give you and idea and I did not just ramble on. Well, Christina lives at my Ramsgate residence, I live in Margate, nobody else works with us, other than other Pro-dommes working from my facilities. My typical week consists of this, Let me point out here that Christina doesn't touch anything technical at all from fear of it exploding. Mondays I get in a 6.30am and christina and I will plan the week ahead. My bookings normally come in and we work our filming and photography around my physical 121 meets. Then after lunch time, I normally go through my websites and adjust graphics and tit bits. We upload movies to various scripts and write our weekly diaries. Any spare time is spent editing photographs and movies. I normally go home at about 7-8pm. Tuesdays Appointments day. I give out 4 - 5 slots and they normally get fully booked the week beforehand. Christina runs around all day sterilising equipment, getting my outfits and picking up our Domme friend Madam Katia. Katia and I work together if an appointment is spare doing photography for her site, which I have just set up. I leave for home at about 5pm. Wednesdays We try to hire a model for the day or make content for my site, either way we are filming and taking pictures for the best part of the day. The rest of it is spent uploading the material, which can take some time. I then set off at 5.30pm for Band rehearsals and then get back home at about midnight-1am. Thursdays Another 121 appointment day. Same format as tuesdays lol. Fridays More editing and uploading. I edit alot of movies on a Friday, FTP'ing movies takes hours. (uploading to the server) Photography is looked at and any rough edits are done and saved for later. Evenings, I will try and get to an adult club in the UK for my review writing website. I also sometimes go as a performer. Saturdays The mornings consist of more web developing, applications and functionality of the website is important, so updating scripts is really important. I also answer any suggestions put through my site. Gym. 2 Saturdays a month are appointment days. Sundays Day of chill.. but I'm pretty much researching all day until a nice roast dinner is cooked and I get to spend some quality time with my kids and family. Wow, I love this thread! It is so interesting to read about the experiences of other webmasters. I also get asked often what it is like being in the biz. So many that ask me think we all sit around and party a lot and are surprised to hear it is a full time job. Many of the typical job tasks that apply in a mainstream job also apply in this industry. I start my days answering emails and phone calls, then I proceed with my daily record keeping and other administrative duties. We film mostly first timers that are really suffering from this economy and have lost their homes and cars so they have no transport. Just getting them to the video shoots can be a real challenge. More often than not, once the transport is arranged they chicken out and don't show for the video shoots. But when they do manage to get here, they are often exhausted, hungry, and extremely nervous so I spend some time feeding them, allowing them hot baths to relax, and talking to them about their circumstances. I try to set a comfortable atmosphere they can relax in so they really enjoy themselves instead of just "Doing the deed". When the video shoots are over I resume my other duties working on editing, posting, marketing, and record keeping. And now it is tax season so my administrative duties just increased ten fold! Working in this industry (after retiring from a 30 year accounting background) has been fascinating. It is a lot of fun at times but can also be stressful and challenging, just like any other career. Since I work with so many first time amateurs, many with serious financial troubles, it is often difficult to separate the compassion I feel for them from the business side of things. Wow! What a windfall of good stuff. I didn't expect such an informative and facinating compilation of exciting information. By-Golly-Gee, my cup runneth over. Hopefully these Stately ladies' gift to this inquiry will spur plenty more webmasters to join in and, ideally, add to and perpetuate this kind of exchange. I don't know of any way to better acquaint us members to our worthy Porn-site marketeers than to increase quality communication via this kind of medium. MistressKent, Advent, and Yarlana, in my mind represent Blue-Chip organizational skills, and I can tell you straight out, the sincerity displayed amongst these women has a far greater impact on my judgement before going for my wallet than reviews or otherwise. I'm betting that's the hardest part--don't the majority of new sites fold within a year? I guess if you retire rich from another industry (probably tech or web related) and have a few million dollars to just piss away then getting started could be somewhat easier. I've heard to stay in the industry requires passion--and I'm not talking  --rather than any guarantee of a big paycheck. How I got started. Well, I went to university and qualified for my degree in Construction management. I spent 9 years being a career girl and came across many obstacles within that male orientated world. I was already into BDSM, but my day job was seriously stressful, long days and loads of snide comments from guys that thought it was funny that a. Found an illegal internet connection and started selling pictures over the internet 3 years ago. I spent the last of my money on a deposit for a premises and made my dungeon furniture by hand. I used various friends home cameras and made my money doing webcam sessions with people in America. Smoking Fetish was my main money maker. I was driving up and down to Myra's 3-4 times a week and staying with her depending on treatment. January 2009 I brought I web hosting package on a pay as you go credit card. Saved up some videos, I made my first paysite.. Mistress Kent had been born. I asked christina to leave her Bank Manager job in Coventry. I needed help to run things whilst I was away, so she gave it all up and moved in. It took 6 months to get a flat of my own and a car, then another 6 months to get the 4 bedroom house with a flat underneath for my dungeon. Myra got very unwell and I took a break from my website as I really needed to be with Myra pretty much full time. Sadly, in February 2010 Myra died. In March, I started going back to full steam ahead with my website. I had lost a lot of customers, but I knew I could win them back and I did. The site has been doing really well and I'm glad I went on this journey into the internet porn world. I'm a much better character, I've grown from a young person into an independent woman. I have my business to thank for that. Now I live with my children in Margate and I still work in the 4 bed house in Ramsgate where my slave lives. All I can say after reading MistressKent's latest post is: If this/her afore-mentioned, heart-wrenching story and the painful up-hill struggles she's had to come this far doesn't qualify her for some kind of "badge", then for heaven sake give her mine. At least a special PU demo of recognition in her name with some bite. This breathtaking chronicle really needs to be made into a mainstream Hollywood movie....featuring nothing less than big name stars. WOW, after that story I am almost embarrassed to answer. I am sorry you had so much tragedy in your life but I am happy you are getting your happy ever after. I was in real estate law for 10 years and took this job as a temporary position after moving out to California. A couple months after I started the owner asked me to stay on permanently and made me Customer Service Manager. I have been in the business a year and a half and now I am the Affiliate Manger and Head of DVD Production. Great insight! Most new porn start ups are not funded with millions in capital and many do fail within the first year. Misstresskents' story of squatting and finding an illegal internet connection to sell pictures is much more common than one might imagine. I applaud you Misstresskent for your tenacity and perseverance! I too started on a shoestring budget. Laid off from an accounting position and unable to find work I was looking for a new career. One evening after watching another really bad "Pro hijacked amateur porn," I decided to venture into the industry. I wanted to work with down to earth people in a relaxing setting. I really wanted to see the girls enjoy themselves and not have to act out story lines and fake orgasms. So I started out with a cheap walmart camera and halogen lights from Home Depot.I soon found out I would need to invest in better equipment. Thousand of dollars later, I started selling individual clips using PayPal as a payment processor and was eventually shut down because they do not allow adult content. I couldn't locate another shopping cart that would work with adult friendly payment processors so eventually became a membership site, enlisting different third party processors. But I encountered problems when Visa shut them down thus, losing my payment processors. Then the hosting problems began and I learned I needed to invest in dedicated servers. And on...and on...and on! The year following, I lost a lot of money on marketing scams such as worthless banner advertising, SEO campaigns, and countless other programs. I learned a lot of very expensive lessons. The pressure to be more like the big mega sites both in content quantity and design was self imposed. I spent a fortune trying to compete with the big guys because I got caught up in all the hype. In doing so, I lost my vision and creativity that sparked the amateur venture in the first place. As 2010 came to an end, I reflected on the years passed and resolved to return to my roots and am much happier doing so. I have returned to selling clips and package downloads so the pressure of weekly updates is off. Now, I can update when I have a great video to upload instead of throwing up a bunch of garbage just to get that update posted. If one is creative and follows their heart it will show in their work. If it is just about making a lot of money, that too will show. It is a great business but requires originality, hard work, and most of all respect for the customers that support the site. Not only in their financial support but also their amazing offerings of patience and uplifting words through all the hard lessons! I think they all prepare in different ways. I was on set once with one of our girls who was going to do an anal scene and she prepared by walking around with a butt plug in for (I am not kidding) one hour. Oh how I wish! (Actually, not really!) I usually start work about 9:30am and work through until about 3pm, then I start again around 7pm and work until about 1-2am. I don't work those hours every day of the week, but probably about 5-6 days. On the other day or two I usually put in around 6-8 hours. The big plus is freedom - if I want to stop at 11am and have a 3 hour lunch break I can. I spend more time with my family than I ever did when working in an office, I don't have a boss and there's no dress code. I hated working in an office environment so this suits me fine. No biggie, JB.... lets switch gears to something you can better relate to ........"throats." Too bad you weren't around when I ran a thread about the demise and plunge in value of VHS cassetts. So happened I had a diamond-mine collection of them numbered in the hundreds, dating back to the birth of adult porn... Many of these were classics fresh from the orginial producers. Recently, though, Faced with a bulky storage problem, I had no choice than to find another home for them. Can you imagine my shock upon then discovering nobody wanted them.... not even the video stores. Sadly, With the advent of discs and DVD, they were now worthless. They ended up at the City dump, buried under tons of locally dispensed garbage. Included in all those years of collectables, you might be appalled to know, ... was amongst one of the first copies made of "Deep Throat."  | |

Perhaps Grey you are unaware, and it's too damn late now anyway, but there are ways to transfer those to digital format. A lot of the old stuff is coming out on DVD anyway so I would fret about it now. I have to take my downloads as it is and edit it down to a viewing level. It's just stupid how much stuff there is that catch's your eye but after going back and doing a critical review you want to get rid of except maybe for a couple mins of the whole scene. I use to do some video production in the 70s (not porn but public access TV) and in our organization, if you shot it you had to edit it too, which I found somewhat painful. I enjoyed the shooting but not the editing. So now I enjoy the viewing but not the editing. Painful I'm telling you!
