^I'm with you on the whole social media thing. I guess it must be an age thing since it's very popular. Maybe someone with a lot more knowledge and brains than me can explain why Facebook would be worth billions when what they offer is free? I know that twitter loses money hands and fist and has done so since they went online. What I don't know is why they are still in business. Long live the Brown Coats.

Simple answer: Because you can directly advertise to millions of people based on demographics very, very easily (and relatively cheaply).

I've never joined twitter or facebook. Is PornUsers a member of twitter and/or facebook? What are the advantages if I joined twitter and/or facebook?

lk2fireone wrote: I've never joined twitter or facebook. What are the advantages if I joined twitter and/or facebook? Do you have any spare time? Facebook and Twitter will fix that. They are a compendium of all the inane things that happen in everyone' life Some one will post a picture or a few sentences and everyone who knows him will click that they like it and then everyone that they know will receive an email announcing a list itemizing all who like it. (You won't have an option to not like something, you just keep quiet.) I am third oldest of 47 cousins who have a facebook presence. Forty six of them, their parents and their offspring lobbied me to join a year ago, and while it is a handy method to stay in touch, the first thing I found was that most of them are considerably more boring than I thought possible. I ignore most of the e mails and visit the site for 10 minutes every week or two to catch up. The experience is mind numbing If you do decide to join is is important that you read all the registration steps carefully. You'll be presented with the option to allow facebook to have access to your address book. If you allow access, you'll receive invitations to "friend" everyone in your address book who is also in their system. Facebook generates these requests. These do not originate from that person. This will happen until the end of time. This step is not unlike the pre checked boxes encountered when registering for a pornsite, so tread carefully. You will also be invited to implement the TIMELINE format. Be sure you like this before you comply. It cannot be undone. Hint : the TIMELINE format is a clusterfuck unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

The thing is a lot of the players in the adult industry are on twitter. Actors, producers and also review sites. There are lots of fans there too. PU/TBP being there will hopefully mean that more people get to know about PU. If someone is interested in learning about twitter, I recommend "The Twitter Book" by Tim O'Reilly and Sarah Milstein. http://amzn.com/1449314201

Depending on your setting people you know could see you belong to PU at twitter same as face book. So why great idea be sure of your settings or your Grandmother might see you like PU, perhaps and some splaining to do. Great idea , but air on caution anytime you post anywhere even this forum can be viewed publicly! Since 2007

Companies pay Facebook to have their advertisements run on Facebook. Also, when people play games on Facebook and spend money on those games (like Farmville, which some of you may have heard of), Facebook gets a percentage of that money.

Micha wrote: "Do you have any spare time? Facebook and Twitter will fix that." I've already learned how to waste my time. So I don't need Facebook or Twitter for that. And Facebook and Twitter sound kind of dangerous to me. I don't need people knowing I belong to PU, or receiving more email messages. I get a ton of spam already.

I have a slightly different view because I don't think they sound dangerous. I know they are dangerous. Giving all your personal information to a company that will gladly sell it to other people that you probably would never have done business with is a sure fire way to get repeated crappy offers sent to you. Then there's the danger of having your private info for all the world to see. Long live the Brown Coats.

pat362, you can opt out of displaying most personal info on FB. I have even seen aliases used. As for unwanted advertisements on your page (the right-side pane), they are concerning your "interests". Enter no interests and you have very few, if no ads.

^Can you sign up to FB or Twitter using bogus data? If not then having an alias will in no way help you when I'm affraid of what the owners of those services are doing with your data. Calm me paranoid but whenever a social network company starts to be worth billions and all it is is a place where people can interact then I must wonder why they are worth that kind of money.
