cbil wikileaks pervert customer details big brother privacy sky tv are you concerned? Recently a site ~(something like 4chan) has published the personal details of sky TV customers who purchased porn videos (pay per view tv). What would you do if say a billing company such as Ccbil or Epoch was hacked and your details got leaked online? would you freak out, would you be worried? please discuss... p.s. sorry if the thread title had you crapping you pants, but hey maybe one day it will be a real thread title?

That would be a disaster for a lot of people in the world. But didn't something like that happen a few years ago to a billing processor? It could have just been CC numbers though.

Yes, I would be worried, but more so I would be pissed off. It's a violation of privacy + something rather delicate. Why were said personal details published, and where? You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Worried, as in extremely angry? Yes! Regardless of the embarrassment/oops-I'm-just-a-horny-guy-after-all factor, I would be upset because financial records are supposed to be kept private and this is blatantly illegal, and could even be seen as part of a widespread identity theft. It's one thing if some asshole steals my credit card info from a site, but it's another thing if said asshole makes all the details public. As a side note, I don't think Wikileaks would do something like this. They have stated they are about exposing corrupt corporations and governments, not morally corrupt perverts who spend their money on porn. It's why the site has never leaked some movie star's grocery list or private e-mails--they have bigger fish to fry. Now if you're a tyrannical dictator then they might leak your personal online habits but that's a different situation entirely. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Yeah, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm not worried about some major hacker doing this (they're in it to steal and sell your financial and personal info, not embarrass you). Instead, it's the "fun" hacker who gets off on this stuff, not the hardened criminal types. It just shows how many computer systems aren't all that safe once you get outside of the Fortune 500 types who have big IT budgets. If nothing else, this just affirms my position of only watching porn on the computer. You can say it was someone else who had access to your machine or a computer worm if your habits ever got disclosed.

I wouldn't freak out or be worried because I would be a non-entity in a sea of non-entities. That's one of the advantages of not having been overly successful or famous! My beloved wife knows I'm a dirty old man and tolerates my "ogling," and the opinion of others I don't much care about. If anyone I knew approached me about it I would simply shrug it off: so what, there are worse vices than a love of porn. I would be very angry about this invasion of privacy, though.

This is not what happened, what was stolen and published was not a list of tv porn pay per view purchasers. It was a list of people who were using Sky's internet services to illegally share porn videos through p2p services, and what files were being shared. Ironically this was done by those who are willing to "fight" to protect their "right" to piracy. Edited on Sep 29, 2010, 02:21pm

I'm like Messmer. In fact, I've been pretty careful in making sure that my life has, throughout its course, maintained a certain lack of distinction. Who the hell would care anyway? I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.
