Windows 10 - Anybody Got It Yet? I suppose I'm better off not being the earliest adopter and getting the benefit of the early bugs being fixed before I get my notification that my computer is ready to upgrade, but I'm looking forward to it. Anybody got it yet? FYI - I know that I can skip my place in line whenever I care to. But I've read that can cause even more bugs, which I'm not nearly enough of a techie to desire.

I'm holding off on it. Got a new PC a few months ago with the plan of switching from console gaming to PC gaming. Getting Fallout 3 to work on Windows 8 has been a pain, so I'm going to wait. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I reserved a copy but haven't downloaded yet. I never really want to be one of the first out of the gate with a new operating system even though they did a large scale beta with 10. I've heard that they've changed some stuff regarding the way photos are viewed and stored and since that's the bulk of my collection I'm waiting to read up more on the subject before leaping.

I have also reserved a copy and based on early reviews by Gizmodo. I will download it once I have access to it. Long live the Brown Coats.

One thing to look out for - for those who have reserved a copy - check your update history. A lot of people - including myself - are experiencing failed attempts of automatic installation of Windows 10 that requires clearing the contents of a software download file and then telling your machine to do the download. Once you do those 2 things, Windows 10 starts downloading right away. This isn't the same as a forced download, it's for getting crap out of the way when your computer is having trouble doing the automatic download, which is a pretty common issue, as I found when I started googling for solutions after I noticed the multiple failed installations. The only photo problem that I'm finding is that photo attachments to emails received cannot be saved in the usual way (right click, tell the computer to save where you want it) using Microsoft Edge, which is their new browser. You have to open the photo in a new tab, then name it and save it - it presents as a png file. I don't find this same issue using Chrome in Windows 10. IE doesn't seem to work much at all with Windows 10. As to photos that were already on the computer, they're exactly where they were in Windows 8.1 and can be opened the same way as always - I use Microsoft's Photo Viewer and it looks fine.

Not looking to hijack Pink Panther's thread, but those that have upgraded, do you play any PC video games and if so, are your games working okay on Windows 10? Micro$oft is famous for releasing new operating systems before they're fully tested. I've reserved my copy but will wait until the last minute to download it and install it. A friend of mine installed it right away and posted on Facebook that "It's great! Do it!". About a half hour later he posted that he rebooted and none of his F keys worked. I had to laugh. The problem is there's no such thing as fully tested. Apple have a much easier job when releasing new operating systems as they tightly restrict what hardware goes into their systems. With PC's there are hundreds of manufacturers, upgraded machines, home built machines - simply millions and millions of variations. Microsoft have to get the OS to work flawlessly across the whole range. Windows also has to run on tablet computers and now mobiles too. Apple produce a separate OS for their tablets and mobiles which (as far as I know) won't run the same software at all. Microsoft's problem is they cannot possibly test the OS on every combination of processor/graphics card/motherboard etc. for every PC for the last few years. On a lighter note, I have friends who have installed it and they say it's stable and runs very well. No idea about games. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

Not a hijack at all, exotics, it's an important part of exploring whether the OS works. I like video games and I've been playing my 2 all-time favorites on Windows 10 - Borderlands 2 and Kanes's Revenge - a Command & Conquer expansion pack. Borderlands 2 came out a couple of years ago and is on Steam's platform. Steam has done a lot of work to keep everything on their platform updated and it's pretty stable, but even so I had a couple of crashes and had to check out my cache to resolve the issues. I haven't had any problems in days. Kane's Revenge is on Origin's platform. I had a version on Steam, but that stopped working when I was running Windows 8.1. I haven't tried it with Windows 10. The Origin version runs fine on Windows 10, as it did on Windows 8.1. The only other game I've played with much is the Microsoft Solitaire game. There's a lot of complaints about how MS has ads between games if you don't buy the premium version. Considering that this is a premium version of solitaire, and that this is the same business model that everyone is using these days, it doesn't bother me at all. The game itself works fine. It's a harder version of solitaire than was on Windows 8.1. I had no problem tearing through the Daily Challenges when I played the Windows 8.1 version. I haven't cracked a single Daily Challenge in the short amount that I've played the Windows 10 version, though it looks like the same game. Maybe Windows 10 ate my brains.

I see the free download upgrades every time I go on the computer. Has anyone actually used 10 yet? Any opinion on it?

I've been using it on 2 PCs for months now, and a few of my friends use it too. It's distinctly faster than Windows 7 and 8 and a big improvement over 7. So far reliability has been excellent with the exception of Skype. For some reason rotating the screen while Skype is running has a high probability of causing a bluescreen error on one of my PCs (no problem at all on the other). Windows 10's memory management is MUCH better than Windows 8.1 (which is probably a key reason why it runs faster). I had some graphics card glitches and printer driver problems at first but downloading the latest drivers fixed both issues. I think my only complaint is I miss the Windows 8 start screen. For some reason they've gone back to the Start Menu like Windows 7 (although with a tiled panel in it like Windows phones) Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I'm fine with it. It seems pretty robust, and it is good at fixing itself when it does throw a tantrum.
