sex chat rooms are problematic

I write this as a warning; if it does not apply to you,

please move on.

Porn, especially internet porn, can be a very isolating

activity. I know for me it has taken the place of a

meaningful relationship for many years. Of course I did

not plan for that to happen...

It was all very innocent for a long time. I didn't

really miss the human element that would accompany a

regular sexual relationship.

However, that all changed when i stumbled across the

live sex chat rooms of LiveJasmin. Now I had the

opportunity to 'interact' with another human being

during 'sexual' encounters. Many of the models there

seemed very pleased to chat with me, laugh at my banal

banter, and appear very happy to see me online.

Soon, I had a list of favorites I would patiently wait

for to come online.

I also became a compulsive tipper, simultaneously making

myself feel generous and helping out the 'poor' models

who were constantly subjected to objectification by

other members and guests.

I had an early warning, which I naively ignored, when a

model offered to chat with me on YM. She needed a new

cellphone, about 400 euros, could I help her? Well, I

ran from that model; but the personal interest she

'showed' in me was very intoxicating.

I found other models who were more cunning in their

craft. Of course none of the hot models had boyfriends

or husbands; many were in school, and I could not help

but feel sorry for their economic plight. This was the

only way they could make a viable living, most appeared

to dislike what they were doing: I felt good giving them

money through the site.

But what happened was I now longed for the personal

relationship that the chat room only feigned. I waited

for literally hours and spent $1000's of dollars to get

close to these girls. Intellectually, I knew there was

no future there, but emotionally I was hooked!

Candidly, I am still caught up in the drama there!

regards, Mark

Human nature, you can get hooked into almost anything. If you think it's a problem, try to get counseling. Or join a church group. Or try for some other activity that you think has a better payoff.

I'll be happy to chat with you if you buy me a new hard drive.

Mark -
If you're still caught up in that site, I'd say you definitely have a problem. I think it'd be obvious to most people that those girls are only happy to see you online because you're giving them money. Try stopping the money flow and see how fast they disappear. Then, like lk2fireone said, get some counseling. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I can imagine that your credit card bill goes up really fast at a cost of 1$ to 3$ a minute that they charge for chatting. An hour will cost you anything from 60$ to as much as 120$. I noticed that you reviewd that site in September. You might want to add that to the review. My suggestion is that if you can't stay away than seek help. Long live the Brown Coats.

I have a friend who plays online video games. He not only spends countless amounts of money on expansion packs, faster internet, gamer designed mice and keyboards, he also has all but ruined his personal life. His friends now are 5 little elven looking characters who tell him they need more time put on their account or they won't be able to come back on and play with him. He's 32.

I'd be careful with the church too. People who are prone to being obsessive and become addicted easy are not always best advised to go to a church. They take your money too ha! Buy a dog. Go outside and run around your neighborhood, play a sport, workout, draw, write stories, etc...

Anytime someone is making money off your emotions, you're in trouble. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

First I thought like GCode: ???????????????

Then: has this something to do with a 'movement' - or a coalition, maybe scientology - to tell us all here how wrong we are....
Or any other 'church-thing' - where,as exotics says: be carefull! - some take your money faster than any pornsite, model, hooker and what not...

Finally: What's the bottomline? "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

What is the OPs motivation to post here?

Contraversial for a first post, I think.

I'm not real big on church-going. But there are all kinds of churches out there. It's true that churches need money to function. But some churches seem to be more into taking a lot of money or as much as they can get from their membership than other churches. I don't want to name names of specific churches, because it's too easy to get people's emotions riled up on a topic like this. But there are many churches out there where the emphasis is not on taking money from the membership, but in providing a communal organization, in providing human companionship (I'm not talking specifically about counseling, but that could be included), along with teaching about God.
It's also true that someone who is obsessive can get caught up in a church beyond what is reasonable: Jim Jones and the Kool-Aid is one simple example. But there are good churches out there that offer human companionship along with the worship of God (which you can make up your own mind about how you believe in the religious part of the church).
Church is only one place to spend meaningful time. But it can serve a very useful purpose in a person's personal life. Or not. That's a personal decision. But it really helps to look a church over before becoming a member. There are many churches that let you attend their services and functions and bible study and whatever, without formally joining that church.
And how much you contribute to the church in financial terms should be entirely up to you. Edited on Dec 27, 2009, 02:36pm

I simply posted as a cautionary tale.
I also felt I might vent this here; not too many places to discuss this type of activity...
Maybe one or two others have experienced similar; I would certainly welcome their insight.

You are right.

There aren't too many places things like that can be discussed.

I have chatted at various places in the past, but always found them ultimately frustrating, and certainly would draw the line at payments of the nature you mentioned.

TBH I think fantasy is better value.

Cheaper & you have control over it! ;0)

There's a very important line to learn for when you feel that you may be being taken advantage of:

"I'm sorry but I have a sock drawer to clean."

Works everytime.

At the risk of being unpopular, getting negative trust votes, and a whole bunch of angry responses, I would recommend against the church-going route.

Frankly, it is simply going from one vice to another, and one that could still take your money and friends if they work you long enough. Like exotics4me suggested, try and take up an activity that doesn't really require a credit card or cash, or your unquestioned worship and devotion for that matter. You could meet new friends without having to think exactly as they do, give them your money, and hopefully build genuine relationships in the process.

Personally I would not recommend counseling either but that's really more exotics' department...plus he's probably a lot bigger than me, so listen to him! Hope things get better for you in the new year, and drop that fucking site! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Probably the best piece of advice so far comes from PinkPanther:
"I'm sorry but I have a sock drawer to clean."

Edit: Is there a copyright on that quote? I'm thinking of using it for my signature line.

I wouldn't hold it against you at all. My experience with people at or from churches has been pretty negative. They seem to be great places for cultivating a churlish narrowmindedness that is enabled by the belief that the Almighty is theirs for the taking and remaking according to whatever selfish whim they have. I've heard people say that God was on their side in causing trouble for other people they didn't like. Sometimes those people were members of the same church. I'll say it: They're a bunch of religious nuts.

The only kind of church I'd ever be interested in would be a black church where they spend a lot of time singing gospel music. I'm not a religious person (obviously), and I'm not black, but I love the music. I probably wouldn't last too long, once they'd figure out that I'm just this weird white atheist. But I doubt I'd have any hard feelings about being kicked out. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Thanks. I have also heard people say god or their faith is on their side in causing trouble, in fact I still see it every day. Bigotry, intolerance, racism, sexism, you name it you're excused to practice it as long as you say the magic word--religion.

As far as you hanging out in a black church it definitely sounds weird, plus you would be drooling all over the place and asking people if they like photos more than videos; weird indeed! Religion, like art, is the great excuse.

Why aren't every leader of the Catholic Church in the US and Ireland (at least) in jail for running a conspiracy to commit massive child abuse? Because they're religious leaders.

When I was in the art scene, people treated each other horribly - ripped each other off right and left, broke any written or oral agreement they made, broke whatever laws they cared to - and their excuse was always - hey, I'm an artist!

My favorite manifestation of this was when 2 female friends of mine were arrested for spray-painting stencils of one of my friend's initials all over town - on the public library, on the walls outside clubs they frequented - and they were arrested when a pissed-off club manager took the keys out of their car while they were spray-painting again a week after they had done his club. They tried to make a "get-away" by pushing their car down the street- lol.

They continued the performance in court wearing severe men's suits to their court appearance - one of my friends shaved her head and wore ball-and chain earings. When their lawyer was going on about what responsible people they really were and how much his client's father cared about her well-being, the judge just erupted - "How old are these people anyway?!" It was priceless! Edited on Dec 28, 2009, 08:46pm

You make a good point about art. It's another one of those blank checks for being a total asshole. I've seen that myself.

And then there's the world of business ...

... and government ... I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.
