Last Nude Issue of Playboy

Did anyone pick up the last nude issue of Playboy with Pamela Anderson on the cover? It went on sale December 11.

They said that since there's so much free porn available now that images like the ones they produce are outdated.

I don't know. I mean, they consider nude models outdated and are deciding to depict them clothed instead? Isn't that moving backward?

Playboy made the decision to drop nude models when they found traffic to their site tripled when they removed from nudity from their main site (not Playboy Plus). Listen to Buried At Sea.

Since they have always been considered the high brow magazine of the skin mags they would either have to completely jump ship or go this route. Jumping ship and becoming like "Hustler" would mean going hardcore, then battling the existing titans of the porn world while simultaneously destroying their lucrative Playboy branding and merchandising (which exceeds their magazine and web profits by a mile). Smart business move in a world that passed them by a long time ago.

Couldn't agree more and the fact is the whole "reading the articles" joke isn't a joke. Playboy for years has consistently provided great articles, features and interviews.

With that said, I think Playboy only exists now based on the power of decades-long branding. There's a lot of value in that little rabbit logo and they will bleed it dry of every last cent before it's said and done. Listen to Buried At Sea.

I remember seeing Playboy in my youth and going Wow. Then Penthouse came out and Playboy became a distant memory. I have not bought a Playboy or any magazine in decades, so I can see them making changes if I'm typical of a porn user. From what I've seen, Penthouse has tamed their pictorials down from their 1990's through 2000's period. So Playboy is not the only magazine that has changed. I won't be picking up a issue. I have enough collectible junk already. Warning Will Robinson

If it were up to you, who would you have chosen for the cover?

It would seem that any kind of nude modeling or porn in print media these days has gone the way of the Brownie camera. I don't know how the other publications are doing because, well, who needs them?

So Playboy has moved into male lifestyle magazine territory, which it always has been, ironically enough, though now it will be possible to have copies on hand in the back seat pockets of an airline without it being naughty. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I think the porn print industry will slowly fizzle out, as the people who still buy them die out. I don't think it will ever completely die, but those days of an entire rack of dirty mags at your local convenience store is certainly over. Listen to Buried At Sea.

Marilyn Monroe. After all, she was the first playmate. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I think that is a shame.

A real end of an era, starting with a bang with Marilyn.

For sure there have been many high spots, but following the start point must have been a challenge.

It would have been nice if they could have continued to provide classy full nude softcore.

I heard first issues with Marilyn were going for $7,000 a year ago. I wonder how this has affected the price? Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

My first response to the news was ... Playboy had nude models in it?

Just kidding, but like others, I always liked reading Playboy and even Hustler. The stories, interviews and the jokes were always a favorite. I would compare Playboy to the Sunday newspaper we had when I was growing up. There was important parts to read in the local news, national news, weather, sports, but I always found the comic section first. From memory, that's how I always looked at Playboy. Centerfold first, read some stories, looked back at the models.

I don't know how much I disagree with them going away from nudity. I haven't looked at a Playboy or their site in maybe 10 years.

I wouldn't mind to see a site or magazine that focused on dressed, lightly dressed women in sexually provocative poses with the occasional "oops" bad camera angle shows more than supposed to photo. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk
