Have You Ever Quit Porn?

I hear more and more people talking about giving up porn, either for a time or for good. It seems to be a thing at the moment. Have any of you walked away from porn in the past? If so, why?

Of course I have given up porn before. For many reasons. One time I was addicted to it and was spending too much money on it. That was very bad and many decades ago. One time I wanted to be more spiritual and gave it up for a long time, but then everyday thing just started turning me on and I started having thoughts I had never had before and it was VERY disturbing. So my current feelings are it is better to enjoy the pleasures you are interested in than to allow a vacuum where something absolutely horrific could fester.

But you know everyone is different. I still have periods I take breaks. I do not look down on anyone who enjoys porn in the privacy of their homes. Studies have shown porn helps curve certain detrimental tendencies. If societies became more prudish I would fear prostitution and crimes would skyrocket. There has been some thoughts that the lowering of the crime rate in America was directly related to the availability of pornography. 1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

I also had a porn addiction (spending over $50K on videos alone) so I gave it up. I am now trying to cut back on porn. I can see why people say they want to quit porn as there is such a negative opinion about it out there.

There might not be any porn out there once our new anti-porn AG Jeff Sessions has his way. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

If you think you should quit watching porn than the best thing to do is to at least take some time off. Start small like a week or two and see how it goes. I have taken some time off from watching porn and these days I don't dedicate all that much time to it because I much prefer reading or playing with Skyrim. Long live the Brown Coats.

I tried once when I was in my mid-teens. I was raised Catholic and looking at nekkid women (and doing what came naturally while so looking) was a sin that I felt guilty about. This was in the late 70s or early 80s so magazines were all that was available. I put my magazines in a garbage bag and dumped them in a remote location. Putting them in the garbage can at home obviously wasn't an option. That lasted two days and I retrieved them.

I have never again done something as silly as quit porn. With the advent of internet porn it's become as much as a hobby as anything else.

Could I quit if I wanted to? Probably not. Does that concern me? Not at all; not even slightly.

Just as Pyrenees expressed it so well I also quit watching and even collecting porn more than once and for a number of reasons. I even deleted my entire porn collection on several occasions and started after a while back from scratch. IMHO I started off the wrong foot. At first when I subscribed to a website I tried to download as much as possible content as I could because I thought : "I paid for it so I'll download as much as I could" In other words quantity went above quality. The result is that you often collect so much content and for which reason? Now I'm much more careful and selective in what I will download during a membership of a porn website also in the number of websites I join during a month. If I get tired of it I just take some rest and distance of it, I don't join any website till again I want to watch or collect some porn. I play a game called War Thunder and the same counts for this game. Once I'm a bit tired of the game I take some distance or I don't play the game for a while.

Where do you hear so many people talking about giving up porn?

I have given up porn and deleted a large collection two times in the distant past and I will never do it again. I deleted small collections more times that that in my early years too. Neither time was because I thought I was using porn in excess though, and I have never believed in porn "addiction." Addiction is a powerful term that connects with people and that is why the anti-porn movement uses it. Addiction really implies a chemical dependence. Porn can be a compulsive and repetitive behavior, but it is no more of an addiction in the scientific sense than sex or potato chips.

The first time around 2007-2008 I gave up out of frustration. Many of the top pee sites at that time closed before I could join. This included DoctorTrickles.com (still online but members area empty), RussianPee.com, and SusysDesperation.com. The one that tipped the iceberg was when Wetscape.com closed. That seemed to be the leading pee site in those days, and I had been putting off joining because I thought it would be around for a long time. I remember how futile it was trying to scrape up any remaining Wetscape content from TGPs and MGPs. I was defeated in my goal of having a comprehensive pee collection or anything close, and I literally just gave up and deleted my collection so I could get my mind off of it and move on to other things in life.

I went back to collecting again in about a year though, built up a moderate sized collection, but deleted it again at a point when I was taking a step up in my career and just wanted to devote myself 100% to work.

I have deleted smaller collections more times that this in the early 2000s and late 90s, for a variety of reasons. I deleted my entire collection from my PC when I went to college. Fortunately, I found my backup of Iomega zip disks and floppies boxed up with my old stuff in my parents' basement recently, so I got a lot of old content back.

I haven't deleted my collection since 2008, and I absolutely will never delete it again. The cool thing is that I have been able to recover tons of porn I thought was lost in the mid-2000s. Wetscape.com came back online for several years, and I was able to download everything. SusysDesperation.com had been at TACAmateurs.com the whole time since her site closed, and I just didn't know it. I was able to get full copies of all of those closed sites that I mentioned plus some others. Other sites I was able to get from the owners. Having been through all of this, I don't see myself quitting porn again, and definitely will never delete my collection. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

Well said, LPee23. Addiction is a word that should be reserved for those truly addicted to substances, not for those of us who collect porn.

I used the term and now regret it. I did have a compulsion where I put porn before everything else but not anymore. I didn't need rehab or any other program to do it. I just decided it was too much and stopped.

I now do what Otrivine does: I join a site and download only the scenes I like. That may mean a lot of content or only a dozen or so videos. If I don't like it, I move on.

I won't quit porn again as it is a good outlet for sexual release. A little fantasy never killed anyone but plenty of drugs have. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

I would disagree with Merc77 in that I think you can be addicted to porn. Granted, there are far worse things you could become addicted to but a lot of the compulsions, feelings, and reasons that other addictions occur can also occur with porn. Addiction can wreck your life whether it involves putting stuff into your body or doing things that mess with your mind.

In any case, I've taken sabbaticals from porn from time to time. I'd say for a few years I was way too heavy into it - choosing to spend time on porn versus other important life matters. I almost deleted my collection once but thought better of it (no matter, I've gotten rid of a lot of that old stuff now due to low quality). Today, I spend a lot less time tending to it and collecting it but am generally happy with the balance I have with it.

its funny I come upon this thread today because this past weekend I was browsing around the app store on my phone (not looking for porn by the way - and came across a bunch of apps for helping people quit porn. I didn't really pay much attention to them because I certainly do not want to quit porn but it just goes to show that when it comes to pretty much ANYTHING... there actually is an app for that.
