Great news for pat362. A new Pirates of the Caribbean film might be coming.

After the disappointing news that the release for the next Wonder Woman film has been pushed back, there is a silver lining for pat362.

There are discussions with Disney about a new Pirates of the Caribbean film.
I thought the series had ended.
But the financial success of the series (over $4 billion worldwide) means we can hope there will be chance to see a new Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow in theaters sometime in the future.

Personally, I stopped watching the series after the first two movies, I think.
The first one was the best.
But they kind of dropped off after the first, in quality. Or storytelling.
So I lost interest.
But I did enjoy the first Wonder Woman movie.
And the first Captain America movie.
But there are too many comic book movies being made, for my taste.
However, my tastes do not reflect box office results.
A lot of blockbusters, maybe even most, leave me wondering what are people seeing, that I don't see.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot Being Explored by Disney With ‘Deadpool’ Writers
By Dave McNary

Disney is exploring a sixth iteration of its “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and has met with the “Deadpool” writing team of Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick about the pic, a source tells Variety.

Disney has no comment and no deal is in place yet. The five previous “Pirates” movies hauled $1.5 billion domestically and $3.07 billion internationally, with the North American market representing a progressively smaller share. The domestic total for 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales” hit $172 million, while foreign markets delivered $622 million.

All five films have grossed more than $650 million worldwide, with “Dead Man’s Chest” and “On Stranger Tides” both topping the $1 billion mark.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” centered on Johnny Depp’s swashbuckling Jack Sparrow battling deadly ghost sailors, led by the Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar. Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites joined the cast, with Orlando Bloom returning as Will Turner and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who teamed on “Kon-Tiki,” directed the movie, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

Reese and Wernick wrote both “Deadpool” movies, with Ryan Reynolds joining them on the “Deadpool 2” script. They also penned “Life,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and both “Zombieland” pics. They are repped by WME.

The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

^Thanks for that. I read about it yesterday and for a second I thought it was April 1st because that kind of news makes very little sense on a purely business point of view because a reboot means they will have to hire a slew of new performers who will automatically be compared to the ones that have already appeared in five movies in the last 13 years.

I also can't help but point out that while every previous Pirate movies made good return on investment. The last one would have lost significant amount of money if it wasn't for the International box office. As it is their entire production and marketing budget must have been nearly 500 million dollars with a return on 790 million. Long live the Brown Coats.

Wonder Woman was moved to June 2020 as it is more lucrative for the franchise as well as it being summer season when students are out of school. The date opened up when WB pulled the movie 'The Six Billion Dollar Man' off the schedule.

As for a sixth Pirates movie, I can see why Disney would want to keep this franchise going. They do need to lower the price tag to around $150 million instead of the bloated $300 million price tags of the last two movies.

We'll have to see what the movie will look like and who will star before any judgments can be made. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

WRONG!
WRONG!!
WRONG!!!

I have learned from my hero, Donald Trump.
I don't need any external facts before I make a final judgment.
My judgment is: What will be, will be (from the song).
Bow down before my superior intellect, all mortals.

Other than that, your post does make sense.
LOL.

The price tag will be lower for no other reason that they won't be paying Johnny Depp the kind of money he earned for his Pirate appearances. The first pirate movie had fairly unknown actors for the main roles so their asking price was probably quite small but by the time you got to the second and so on. All of the main actors were probably getting significantly more money and that is probably why each subsequent sequel was more expensive than it's predecessors.

That said. I can't help but point out that if they do a reboot then there is a high possibility that the new movie will have nothing to do with it's predecessors because. To do anything else will basically mean that it's not so much a reboot as a sequel with new characters. I'm sure I'm going to be proven wrong but I really think that very few people want to see another Pirates movie. Long live the Brown Coats.

3 different articles on Johnny Depp being dropped from the reboot of the Pirates series appeared today and yesterday at news sites.
They were based on an interview with Stuart Beattie, who helped write the script for the first Pirates movie.

But this is only Stuart Beattie's thoughts.
Disney has certainly not made any official statement.
And I don't think Johnny Depp has made any official statement.

Amber Heard needs to make nice to Johnny Depp.
If the ex-couple make a new film together, maybe it could help both their careers.
Let's hope so.

Amber Heard’s Big-Time Bomb: ‘London Fields’ Suffers 2nd Worst Wide Box Office Debut of All Time

Drama limps into theaters with just $160,000 after years of legal wrangling

Three years after it debuted in Toronto, Amber Heard’s “London Fields” finally hit theaters this weekend — only to set a new record as the second worst wide-release opening in box office history.

Released by GVN Releasing on 613 screens, the film only grossed around $160,000, for a per screen average of just $262.

According to Box Office Mojo, which classifies a wide release as any film that plays on more than 600 screens, that’s the second worst wide opening of all-time behind “Proud American,” a 2008 film with major corporate sponsorship that retold the creation of Walmart and Coca-Cola. That film posted a wide opening of just over $96,000.

The film, based on Martin Amis’ dystopian novel, has made headlines for generating multiple lawsuits on its slow path into theaters.

Nicola Six Limited, the production label created to release the movie, sued Heard for $10 million in 2016 for breach of contract, claiming she refused to do nude scenes for the film despite reading the novel knowing that her role would require such scenes to be shot.

The plaintiffs also accused Heard of violating her contract by refusing to show up at the film’s planned premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The dispute was settled last month, clearing the way for the film’s release.

But the legal troubles aren’t over for Nicola Six Limited. The company was served with a lawsuit from director Matthew Cullen, who accused the producers of tampering with his final cut.

The producers countered that Cullen did not deliver the film under budget and on time and accused Cullen of conspiring with Heard to interfere with the producers’ cut of the film. While Cullen’s cut was the one released this weekend, the lawsuit is still set to go to trial this February.

The film is also noteworthy for also starring Heard’s ex-husband, Johnny Depp, whom she has accused of domestic violence. Heard and Depp, the latter of whom plays a minor role, had been a couple when production began on the film in 2013. They married in 2015 and divorced a year later.

“London Fields” stars Heard as a femme fatale who becomes involved with three different men — a wealthy financier (Theo James), a petty criminal (Jim Sturgess) and a failing author (Billy Bob Thornton). All three intensely desire her, and by the end of the film, one of them murders her.

^Somehow I doubt that a joint project would be a good idea because there relationship was doomed from the beginning and it only got worse the longer they stayed together.

I think Amber has the idea that she can be a major box office star because many people keep telling her that but sadly I don't think she has the qualities necessary to do that. She might want to stick to smaller projects or return to TV.

The jury is still out on Johnny Depp because while he still has amazing box office power. His reputation which he has more than earned may be making many producers nervous. If I'm a producer about to green light a 150 million Johnny project that may wind out going nowhere because the star has died from overdose or has to go into rehab and the film has to be put on hold or cancelled or worse recast and my 150 millions budget is now 200 millions and will have a huge anchor dragging it once it's finished. Long live the Brown Coats.

Do we really need ANOTHER Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Why don't they do some kind of spinoff or something else within the Pirates universe instead? I mean, if they're still making big money, it doesn't surprise me that they want to make a new one, but they need to try something new.

^I think the only people who need another Pirate movie are the Disney executives who want to make more money from a franchise that should have died after the original movie but was a too good cash cow not to make a sequel that became sequels. Long live the Brown Coats.
