What is "geo-targeted pricing"? I've searched the forums for variations on the word 'target' and came up dry. I know I've read something about this here, but I can't find it now. I was thinking of joining FTV for the first time. I was doing my due dilgence and read all the reviews here and then jumped over to TPB and noted that they have a warning that FTV may use geo-targeted pricing. I can guess what it mean - it would seem that the price charged may depend on where I live. But what good does that do them? Does that mean that people in third-world countries can but porn cheaper than those of us in more affluent countries? Is it some kind of a scam that I should be aware of? Any advice would be great. And if you have any experience with FTV I'd like to hear about that too. Thanks all... M

You got it exactly. The site figures their product is worth whatever they think they can get for it. I guess their thought is that they'll grab more customers if they drop prices for people who don't have as much money as others. At the rate we're going here in the U.S., maybe we'll qualify as a "second world country" soon. :cheesy grin: Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Geo-targeted pricing means that customers who buy in USD pay less than customers who pay in EUR. I just tried to join and ccbill is asking me for 29.95 EUR, which is 43 USD. A 40% more. So it's really not that people from third-world countries like mine have to pay less but we have to pay much much more.

Thanks for the answers. Maybe I'm confused still, but is the issue really only that the price listed is in Euros rather than in USD which we're all more used to seeing? TPB lists the monthly subscription price as 29.95 but doesn't say that it is in Euros.

Damn right it is a scam! It is a 'service' offered by CCBill so that webmasters can rip off Europeans. :0( Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award Hilarious Post of the Year 2010 PU Award ( I would have preferred it to be Helpful Post of the Year for Guys who Hate 'Retail Therapy' ) :0/ Sanity is in the eye of the Beholder!

Since you live in Canada, you will see 29.95 USD. Good for you :) The problem for Europeans is that we see 29.95 EUR (=40 USD) instead of seeing 21 EUR (=29.95 USD). We are getting the exact same service at a higher price. Unless ccbill wrongly sees your IP address as non-Canadian, regional pricing is not an issue for you.

atrapat, I agree with almost everything you say, and I believe regional pricing is unfair. But to say that Spain is a third-world country is one thing I don't agree with. Spain is part of Europe; third-world countries are supposed to be (I know I'm being politically incorrect here) backward socially and financially. Spain is one of the first-world countries (if that's a correct term). Spain might not be the world power it was back in the 1400-1500s, but it's still considered, culturally and financially, much more advanced than a third-world country. I also like your avatar. It's classy and nicely distinctive. Is it based on a cartoon character?

If you'll do a forum search on "regional pricing" I think you'll find the threads you read on this subject. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator Now at: MyPorn.com "To get your ideas across use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."-John Henry Patterson

I was trying to be ironic, but just a little :) Unlike other countries and despite what our government says, we are not getting out of the crisis by any means. So, give us time and we'll slowly crawl out of the first-world. My avatar is Enjuto Mojamuto, a recurring character in a comedy program. Here's a youtube video on how he spent the worst day of his life (subtitled in English).
