Interesting Article on AVN 2011

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/jan...iracy-it-kills-thei/

It looks like we'll be seeing Jenna Haze continue to lead the charge against porn piracy - how effective that will be remains to be seen.

Steve Hirsch seems to continue to want Vivid to be known for celeb stunts rather than good porn - I hear a clock ticking away for the day when Vivid is not considered a major porn company at all. They have a fair amount of cash available to burn through first, most likely.

I think that studios like Vivid, Wicked Pictures, Digital Playground and a couple more that do non-gonzo porn have a better chance of surviving the porn recession than those that are mostly gonzo studios. The reason is that their content is easier to sell to hotel chains because you can often edit some sections to make the movie more softcore.
It's also easier to justify offering porn in your hotels if there is an actual story to the movie.

I'd be willing to say that Steve Hirsch is an idiot when it comes to helping the industry because a celeb sex tape will sell and that's good for his business but it will also cost a lot more to buy the rights so the return is smaller. Add the fact that the money you spent to buy that sex tape could have been used to pay the salasries of the performers, cameramen, sound operators, makeup artists and anyone else involve in a porn shoot. Performers are complaining that it's difficult to make money in porn and are turning to other means to make ends meet. A girl that escorts or strips on the side will not always be available to shoot for a studio since she's out of town or otherwise busy elsewhere and that means less porn being shot. Long live the Brown Coats.

This makes a certain amount of sense to me

"Performers are complaining that it's difficult to make money in porn and are turning to other means to make ends meet. This doesn't. Escorts have as much flexibility as they want to have, including advertising in different cities, including at the last minute. In fact, pros that I'm aware of work out of different cities frequently to help avoid LE traps and to not burn out their clientele. There's nothing about escorting that gets in the way of doing other activities - unless the escort wants there to be, in which case it could be anything that's the excuse, including "I have to clean my sock drawer".

As to Feature Dancing - that's generally scheduled well in advance. Jenna Haze was certainly able to shoot for everyone and their brother when she wanted to while feature dancing many weekends. There's nothing about feature dancing, per se, that is going to interfere with porn shoots. In fact, if a performer is able to make money feature dancing, she's more likely to stay in the adult biz than if she is not.

^True but if you are stripping in a multi-city circuit then you can't be available to shoot in LA and that would prevent you from doing certain shoots. The same applies for escorting. If you are in a different city then you also can't shoot while out of town. I'm not saying that it can't be done and I'm sure it's done regularly but any outside activities can affect overall availability of the girls.

Add the fact that the money they make with these little sidelines makes doing porn more of a hobby than the actual bread winner. Long live the Brown Coats.

Its not like the movies take a long time to shoot - they aren't filming Pirates of the Carribean where she'd have to be available for months. I doubt typical porn shoots last longer than a day. Porn stars have been stripping on the side probably for as long as there has been porn. I'm just guessing, but I imagine many started out as strippers/escorts anyway.

I enjoyed how she said Hollywood had conquered piracy, really? When did that happen, it must have been quite recently. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

Bigger features, like the ones that Wicked does, probably take a week - that's how long their recent shoot of Rocky Whore Picture Show took - but most porn features probably take a good deal less - and gonzo movies are generally done a scene at a time, so there's a lot of flexibility there. Digital Playground does those Island Erotica movies, or whatever they're called, where they just take the whole cast with them for the whole shoot, so their carousing is probably between each other.

You're certainly correct about porn babes starting as strippers - Nautica Thorn, Stephanie Swift, Jenna Jameson and about a billion others started that way. Mitchell Bros O'Farrell Theater in SF has been a major work-place of porn babes on their way up, like Skylar Price, or on the way down, like Vika and Nikita, who worked at Mitchell Bros for many years.
