Are there crazies in real life, or do they only exist in the movies?

California woman sentenced to life in prison for cutting off ex-husband's penis and tossing it into the garbage disposal.

The article does not say if she turned on the garbage disposal, and flushed the remains down the drain.
Or was the ex-husband able to get the severed penis back?

Inquiring minds want to know!

(Reuters) - A judge sentenced a Southern California woman who cut off her estranged husband's penis and tossed it in the garbage disposal to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Catherine Kieu, 50, was convicted by an Orange County jury in April of aggravated mayhem and torture following the July 2011 assault on her ex-husband.

Kieu drugged her former spouse before tying him up and severing his penis with a knife. She then threw it into the garbage disposal unit.

An attorney for Vietnam-born Kieu argued at trial that she had suffered sexual abuse as a child which left her with post-traumatic stress. She was remorseful about the attack, he said.

After the sentencing hearing, the victim - identified only as "Glen" - said he wished Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard Toohey could have given Kieu more time behind bars, City News Service reported.

"Deep down inside I was hoping for a stronger sentence, but given the restraints of the law this is what he had to do," he said.

"There may be a situation where I can be happy, but whole? Never ... I've got a long ways to go."

Yes, it's the same woman. And now she's convicted and sentenced to prison for life.

I don't do a google search for these articles. I read the entertainment news, and when I see a strange-looking article heading, I sometimes click on it.

And that's why I sometimes post these "news" articles here.

I mean, I know there are crazy people out there, and it shouldn't shock me no matter what they do, but I keep on being surprised.

I sometimes wonder if their craziness might rub off on "normal" people.

Or maybe "normal" people, if you go down deep enough, aren't really that normal after all.

What ever happened to the world being safe, and you could trust people?

When I was a kid, we didn't have these types of horror stories about mass killings or random killings so often. But in today's world, parents teach their children to be suspicious of strangers, to report any behavior that might be suspicious or odd, to be on guard.

There's less trust, and it's sometimes warranted. Edited on Jul 04, 2013, 01:01am

They were around though. My partner says the same sort of thing about things not being so bad but I think they were. We have recently had a number of revelations about celebrities sexually molesting or raping children over here. The police didn't investigate. We are now becoming more aware.

I saw the original post being duplicated again, and thought that was what Khan meant. My posts still occasionally get duplicated.

Well, I think we can understand the judge's feelings "deep down inside."

Wasn't there a case several years ago, I think maybe in the New York City area, in which a wife, infuriated by her husband's infidelity, cut off his weiner and threw it out a car window?

Guys, be careful! Don't piss off the females! They'll get their payback, and you'll be REALLY sorry! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'm not saying that crazies were only invented recently.
What I'm saying is that they seem to more common in today's world versus a50 or 60 years ago.

Part of the change might be that information is more widespread and accessible. But it's more than just that.

Celebrities or priests molesting children have probably happened throughout history. But now, instead of being hidden or swept under the rug, it's reported in the news and the internet.

So we are more aware of these things happening.

But the mass murders, as an example, seem to be more common today.

Somebody getting a gun and shooting people at random. That happens every few years. 50 or 60 years ago, that was rare. Not something that happened every few years.

But a lot depends on where you are focused. In Africa, they have been mass killings for many years. Those stories don't get the attention that shooting in America or Europe get.

Is the world a darker place than it was 50+ years ago?

You had Hitler. You had Stalin. Both of them killed (or were responsible for) millions of civilians dying, because of some plan they had to create a better world.

Some of it's real, some of it's the product of a concerted campaign.

Real: Ask the people of the Balkans what safety is. One day, they were all intermixed ethnicities and they were neighbors and safe, the next day, politicians were able to get people murdering their neighbors based on them being a different ethnicity than they were - 10's of thousands of people murdered, raped, etc - definitely not "safe"

Manufactured: In the 80's/90's in the US there was a whole campaign about how unsafe day-care centers and other such places were - in Florida, in the LA area (remember the McMartin Family), in San Diego, in New York (the Friedman family, who ran a computer school for kids) - over and over the same story - little kids being brought in to therapists who helped them "remember" the sexual abuse they experienced and once they got one kid to "remember", they brought in tons of other kids who were told "Jimmy told us the truth, don't you want to be brave and tell us the truth too?" So the kids would make up ridiculous stories. In LA and San Diego, they were digging up the grounds to find the tunnels where the kids had "remembered" large animals being killed and buried. It was all a bull-shit terror campaign to make women feel like they were committing a crime if they left their children with somebody else.

Are there crazies? Fuck yeah - and mainly they're running government here and around the world!

I am a war child (WW II) and have been a cynic ever since. There are so many crazies just waiting to come out of the woodwork, given the right social conditions.

See Nazi Germany! The civilized country of Schiller, Goethe, Rilke, Schopenhauer, Kant, Beethoven, Bach, Haendel, Hayden hiding tens of thousands of monsters behind a respectable facade of teacher, doctor, judge, architect, plus the more obvious low lives, who saw nothing wrong with persecuting, killing and torturing millions for their ethnicity, or religious and political views.

I am convinced that the same percentage of evil "crazies" can be found in any country .. so fervently pray, if you are so inclined, for stable social and economic conditions in whatever country you happen to live in. That nice, pleasant school teacher next to you could be a potential Himmler, if given a chance.

If you need a modern day example of what can happen once lawlessness takes over just look at Yugoslavia after Tito died, or at present-day Syria.

Sorry! A bit off-topic when it comes to cut-off bits!

Damn... How many times I gotta tell you people? Rant whenever, wherever and however you want! It's good to vent. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Catherine Kieu's last words before lowering her knife to commit this horrible deed .......
"I warned you, you Sob, that if you wouldn't get yourself circumcised that I'd do it myself."

The Bible even has something to say about this kind of thing;

"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

Sorry, ole pal, but you can't blame the Bible for everything:

William Congreve, in The Mourning Bride, 1697:

As you'll answer it, take heed
This Slave commit no Violence upon
Himself. I've been deceiv'd. The Publick Safety
Requires he should be more confin'd; and none,
No not the Princes self, permitted to
Confer with him. I'll quit you to the King.
Vile and ingrate! too late thou shalt repent
The base Injustice thou hast done my Love:
Yes, thou shalt know, spite of thy past Distress,
And all those Ills which thou so long hast mourn'd;
Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd,
Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd.

What'd you do, Pard ....... go Google on me?
I mean, obvious credit stands out as a crown for thou being a bona fide cultured PU Dude, an' all, (but) I'm stopping short of buying into the idea you're into stuff as deep as this guy (Congreve) writes.

But you're right though .....however, according to one of my unused sources, so am I.
Meaning I can be judged at least half right, in that it's a firm quote I failed to use from William Shakespeare.

GB, I felt badly about writing the above because it sounded too arrogantly smug ... I should have put a wink or something in that effort more often so that you would know I was teasing. I even tried to delete the whole post because I normally don't correct anyone, but it was too late. My apologies for sounding like an insufferable prig.

Pleeeeeze, Perish the thought! Nothing could be further from truth. I took it the same way friends normally dig at one another.
So don't for a minute think it offended me in the least.
Fact is, I deserved it anyway for not doing what little research it required.

However, I think it beholden upon me to avenge my honor by hiring two hit men to give you a little visit.
You will, I trust, "accept my apologies for acting on this like an insufferable prig."

This reminds me of Flight of the Conchords -

"I heard of someone, they cut a whole person's body off - they just left the dick behind"

"Don't you mean they cut off his dick?"

"No, I mean they held his dick and cut his whole body off. That's all he was in the end... a dick."
