I have been a continuous subscriber to 21st Sextury since 2009. It was one of the best sites around. Just 10 bucks a month and always a lot of good new material whenever I logged on.
So looking at the last 6 months or so I can just say: "What the heck happened?"
This site has gone completely sideways:
* First there was the godawful new design. The old design was simple, clean and efficient. The new one is bloated, buggy, annoying and a general design disaster.
* Then there was the video formats: no more WMV videos. I was told it was "obsolete". Maybe so, but that is what works best for me and is what I prefer as a customer.
Still, I could live with the design horror and the technical deficiencies if the material was still good. But not so:
* The missing photosets. Since 2010 or so there had always reliably been hi res photos with each set, now it seems mostly hit and miss.
* The photography quality itself has deteriorated greatly. Photos used to be super sharp, good lighting and color contrast, etc. Highly professional stuff, some of the best around. What do we have now? Blurry and washed out looking pictures seems to be the new norm.
* Hi res pictures when they do exist at all look like basic blownups of the low res stuff, sometimes you can even see the scaling artifacts.
What the hell is all this? Can't they or won't they invest enough in staff and equipment to keep the quality up?
I will be dropping my subscription if this nonsense doesn't change soon. Never mind the 10 bucks, it simply is not worth my time to put up with the technical hassles and mediocre quality.
