A friend of mine who teaches junior high mentioned that he sees his students staring down and fiddling with their crotches all the time. The students are playing with fidget spinners and not paying attention.

I had no idea that these existed until I read about them a week ago. I still have no idea what they look like or what they do.

They're a simple weighted spinning device. I've seen them marketed as a "therapy" for ADHD.
I've seen them sold at 7-11. What therapeutic device does 7-11 carry?
It's a fad. A lot of fidget spinners will be in the trash in a few months.

I'm with rearadmiral on this one. I didn't even know this was a thing and now that I do. I'm left scratching my head as to why it is.

REMEMBER PET ROCKS FROM THE 1970s?
IT'S DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN WHY SOME FADS TAKE OFF.
BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY PET ROCKS WERE POPULAR:
A LOW-MAINTENANCE PET THAT DOES NOT DIE.

TRUE BUT ULTIMATELY IT WAS JUST A ROCK. I SHOULD PROBABLY LOOK INO THE PET ROCK PHASE TO FIND OUT WHO CAME UP WITH THE IDEA AND GOT SOMEONE TO FINANCE THIS PROJECT.

I've tried one and got bored after about 30 seconds. Whoever "invented" these is a marketing genius, however. They're literally just skateboard wheel bearings that they added designs to.
