I'VE READ THAT IT'S BAD TO HIT THE UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON ON SPAM.
DIFFERENT REASONS FOR THAT:
- IT TELLS THE SENDER (AN AUTOMATIC PROGRAM) THAT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS VALID AND BEING CURRENTLY USED.
- THIS MEANS THE SENDER CAN SELL YOUR ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS TO OTHER SPAMMERS. SO YOUR SPAM EMAIL CAN ACTUALLY INCREASE IF YOU HIT A LOT OF UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTONS.
-IT MIGHT GIVE THE SENDER A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT YOU AND YOUR COMPUTER.
IT CAN GET COMPLICATED, BUT USING AN UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON CAN, DEPENDING ON HOW IT'S SET UP:
GIVE THE SENDER INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR EMAIL PROGRAM.
IF YOU'VE OPENED A BROWSER WINDOW AS PART OF THE UNSUBSCRIBE PROCESS, THEN YOU'RE GIVING MORE INFORMATION, AND THE CHANCE TO BE INFECTED INCREASES:
YOU'VE EXPOSED YOUR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION;
YOU'VE EXPOSED INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM;
YOU'VE EXPOSED INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR BROWSER;
YOU MAY HAVE ACCEPTED A COOKIE (UNKNOWINGLY);
IF YOU HAVE ACCEPTED A COOKIE UNKNOWINGLY, AND DO NOT DELETE IT, THEN, BY CLICKING OTHER UNSUBSCRIBE LINKS, YOU ARE EXPOSING YOUR COMPUTER TO BE IDENTIFIED PERSONALLY.
WHAT'S THE MOST AMAZING PART: IF YOU HAVE A SPAMMER'S COOKIE (UNKNOWINGLY ACCEPTED), AND YOU VISIT ANY MALWARE SITE, THE SPAMMER CAN INFECT YOUR COMPUTER, EVEN IF YOU DON'T CLICK ON ANYTHING.
THERE'S SOME KIND OF TECHNICAL TERM TO DESCRIBE BEING INFECTED BY VISITING A SITE WITHOUT CLICKING, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT'S CALLED.
BUT COMPUTERS CAN BE WONDERFUL.
THAT'S WHY SOME PEOPLE CALL THEM "HAL". :)
SO DO NOT USE THE UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON. IT'S BAD FOR YOUR COMPUTER.
INSTEAD, JUST MARK THE SPAM AS SPAM, AND DELETE IT.
MUCH SAFER. AND MORE EFFECTIVE.

Definitely appreciate the heads up, but I'm not TOO concerned with all of that. They can have my location and computer specs. But cookies and email addresses are never a problem for me. I use disposable addresses for every signup to a new site and I'm anal as hell when it comes to accepting cookies. Running NoScript on Firefox also seems to work wonders. I must be doing something right - I'm all over the Internet, including some what I guess you'd call "dodgy sites" and haven't been hit with problems for ages. Having said all that, I'll probably see some ransomware tonight.

I'M IMPRESSED.
I TRIED USING NOSCRIPT BEFORE, WITH FIREFOX.
BUT IT WAS TOO MUCH WORK.
SO I JUST DEPEND ON NORTON SECURITY FOR MY PROTECTION.

Yeah - NoScript can be a pain - especially on Facebook where I can't watch most of the videos without manually allowing 50 or 60 scripts. But I'm convinced that it goes a long way to keeping me safe.

Good morning, I have just seen your comments about the unsubscribe link. If when clicking this it is not working then I will fix this immediately. I will send you a private email and if you could let me know what your username or email is in there then I will ensure you are removed from all lists.
