It's a nice way for sites to get an extra buck from people.

"Free trials" are usually limited access, and $1 trials are usually only a day or three. Either way they usually are to get you to sign up then hit you with a regular membership price when you forget to cancel. I find it not worth the effort.
I suppose it's a successful business practice since it still exists.

Trials usually mean it is hard to cancel and you will be paying at least a full months fees or more. Easy cancellation is the most important factor in my joining a site. here are a few that I would have joined long ago, but seem to have no way to cancel easily.

It's a scam but it's not one that gets me riled up because if you believe that you are going to get access to something that normally cost at least 15 times that amount than you deserve to lose that $1.

I do not like them.
1. When I see $1 trial I think limited access. And quite often it is. So I don't bother.
2. $1 usually renews at a vastly increased rate than the site is normally priced - taking $40 per month instead of the usual $30. Also cross checking is often there making it a minefield
3. Its too much hassle to give over my CC details for $1.
4. I think the best deal websites do is the half price sign up deal that you usually get via clicking the links here. Those are the ones that make me sign up.
