I was recently factory resetting my PC. It had some strange glitch that was saying my G: drive was running out of space. I don't have a G: drive. It was popping up about every 10 minutes. My PC originally was a Windows 8.1 PC. I had used the free upgrade to Windows 10 about two or three years ago. I was worried about resetting since I was thinking it would put it back as a Windows 8.1. So, I followed Microsoft's advice and made a digital backup of my Windows 10 software on an external hard drive. Once it reset, something was wrong, it was still Windows 10. Turns out to be that once you have Windows 10, your PC knows it and remembers it so it resets to Windows 10. I then hooked the external back up with the Windows digital backup copy on it to find out when I saved the digital backup to it, it reformatted the external, wiping out 4 TB of porn. So, I lost all that porn but really, it wasn't any of my most favorite scenes.

I've never deleted any and thankfully never lost any. I still have all the photo sets from every site I've ever joined since I started joining adult sites back in 2003. I did start becoming concerned about the prospect of losing some due to a hard drive failure so bought another 2 x 3 TB drives last year to back up the whole lot since much of it has become irreplaceable due to many of the sites it's from going out of business.

I tend to hoard porn and don't spend enough time going through it before I catalogue it and back it up. Because of that I end up with a lot of stuff I never watch. So because of this at least once a year I go through my collection and cull stuff that doesn't really fit with my collection. I'm trying to find a cure to this hoarding by 'quarantining' new stuff until I can go trough it and decide if I want to keep it.

My porn collection back then consisted of photos downloaded from porn newsgroups, I hadn't discovered pay sites at that time, but anyway, I had quite a collection which ended up being lost when the internal HDD gave up the ghost.

Have accidentally deleted some (rarely), purposely deleted some (at times), and lost some due to hard drive failures. I'd think that over enough time, at least one of the above is going to occur for most anyone, unless they're both lucky and uninterested in reassessing what they've got.

I lost a 4tb hard drive one time, opened it one day and it showed empty. thankfully I found a recovery program that pulled everything off the disc. It was expensive but worth it. I'm an HD snob who firmly believes in paying for my stuff, so my collection is hella expensive. Like it was stated above, Many sites are closed down and content is unrecoverable. Really wish I could find a way to recover the lesbo 101 content, one of the only sites that I truely lost
